My very straight/Christian (the "lite" good kind?) neighbor always said that he loved that his 2 boys were around me growing up, because we had so much other stuff to do besides sports, etc. We just did random stuff - malls, lots of movies, restaurants, etc. They were very well behaved, so we could actually go do cultural stuff. They are now grown, and we are still great friends. He's been quite an advocate over the years, as are his grown sons now.
