Get real, it reached its peak with Octopussy.

It depends on who is playing James Bond!!

My ranking would be:
1) GoldenEye
2) Skyfall
3) Casino Royale
4) License To Kill
5) Goldfinger.
I think GoldenEye is the best because it contains all the classic 1960s tropes found in the Connery movies but with modern cinematography, flawless pacing, a memorable cast and a cool industrial soundtrack. Skyfall is an excellent movie but it just doesn't achieve perfection in the way that GoldenEye does.

The level of emotion that generated, R5, is like nothing I’ve ever experienced in a Bond film. Really caught me off guard.

I agree, I thought Skyfall was one of the best if not THE best Bond movie. And yet, I feel like I'm ready for some lighter story, like GoldenEye. Skyfall had a good story and direction. But if every Bond was as deep and emotional (and they tried) I'd lose interest. The Roger Moore movies are usually not highly regarded, but The Spy Who Loved me is quintessential Bond for me. I hope the next Bond will be a bit more light hearted again.

Skyfall’s third act is remarkable. No bombs, no planet-wide threat, just good storytelling.

I hate to be a sourpuss, but who fucking cares?

In a way I don't expect much from AMZ to handle the next Bonds well. In another way I have to admit that they have a daunting task ahead recreating Bond.
Whatever they churn out will face pushback from at least some. Some will say that AMZ plays it too safe and not push hard enough for an engaging movie. Other will say that the new movie is not the real Bond because he is blond, black or too pretty or not pretty enough or because of some other nothingness. Bond movies have covered so many different grounds with several generations claiming that their Bond is the true Bond. AMZ will surely break at least some hearts, no matter what they do.

Wrong. Casino Royale is peak Bond. Skyfall is very good, though.
