David Niven was Errol Flynn's best pal and partner in crime, so despite his suave and elegant exterior, classy didn't really fit the bill.

William Powell was pretty great, too

Classiest in all externals was Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Period.
But William Powell actually DID reach higher because he rejected class while embodying it. True class does not recognize class, only the truths people evidence about themselves.

Cary Grant was too cheap to be really classy. When he was living with Randolph Scott one wag pronounced "they have the perfect relationship. Randolph writes the checks and Cary posts them".

Jimmy Stewart is too representative of the American Middle West.
