Richard Chamberlain???

David Niven was Errol Flynn's best pal and partner in crime, so despite his suave and elegant exterior, classy didn't really fit the bill.

by Anonymousreply 8July 20, 2025 7:05 PM

William Powell was pretty great, too

Classiest in all externals was Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Period.

But William Powell actually DID reach higher because he rejected class while embodying it. True class does not recognize class, only the truths people evidence about themselves.

William Powell in My Man Godfrey. Great film.

by Anonymousreply 12July 20, 2025 7:30 PM

Myrna Loy

[quote]Old Hollywood Actor : Richard Chamberlain???

Ditto Sidney Poitier. "old Hollywood" ended in the 1940s.

by Anonymousreply 14July 20, 2025 7:57 PM

Cary Grant was too cheap to be really classy. When he was living with Randolph Scott one wag pronounced "they have the perfect relationship. Randolph writes the checks and Cary posts them".

by Anonymousreply 15July 20, 2025 8:40 PM

R15 they were roommates

by Anonymousreply 16July 20, 2025 8:46 PM

Nerdy Jimmy Stewart???

by Anonymousreply 17July 20, 2025 8:49 PM

Jimmy Stewart is too representative of the American Middle West.

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2025 8:50 PM

Where is Rock Hudson?

by Anonymousreply 19July 20, 2025 8:53 PM

Paul Robeson was the smartest and most impressive.

by Anonymousreply 20July 20, 2025 8:53 PM

No Gable?

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2025 9:24 PM

Jimmy Stewart = right winger

by Anonymousreply 22July 20, 2025 9:42 PM

Ronald Colman.

by Anonymousreply 23July 21, 2025 10:52 AM

Adolphe Menjou.

by Anonymousreply 24July 21, 2025 12:45 PM

Didn't Menjou support the HUAC witch hunts?
