Who was your favorite teen magazine/TV series/pop music heart throb?

This is NOT a pedo thread. I repeat...well, I won't repeat it.

Just guys you had crushes on back then.

Please don't link me to similar threads.

Unbelievably he's 18 here -- I love the song. (Same night as the Beatles appearance.)

Growing up in the '70s, I used to occasionally pick up those magazines. One thing I always wondered was who actually found the Bay City Rollers or Leif Garrett attractive.

by Anonymousreply 7July 20, 2025 4:32 PM

Vincent Van Patten is one heartthrob who has aged well.

Yeah, Vince has aged well--and he's around my age. He looks a lot better than me. Still has his hair, too. Although he really doesn't look like he did as a kid--I mean, I'm not sure I'd recognize him unless i knew it was him. I think William Zabka probably looks more like young Vince than old Vince does.

Leif Garret had that bad boy/wholesome contradictory vibe.

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2025 4:55 PM

I wasn't a teen any more but Johnny Depp, yeah, for sure.

by Anonymousreply 19July 20, 2025 4:56 PM

Growing up in CA a lot of girls were really into the blond surfer type. As a young gayling I was more interested in men like Robert Urich and David Soul.

by Anonymousreply 20July 20, 2025 5:03 PM

Honestly? As a baby-gay, I didn't find the "teen dreams" all that much of a heart throb. I went for the older, "bear-ier", rugged men.

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2025 5:04 PM

Vince is married to Y&R's Eileen Davidson!

Keith Cassidy & later Sean Cassidy. So much hotness is one family! I liked Parker Stevenson too, but he was too much like a Golden Retriever in human form.

by Anonymousreply 26July 20, 2025 5:14 PM

I can't find a good link, but Jonathan Taylor Thomas is 3 yrs older than me, and I was so in love with him when I was a young gayling in the 90s. I constantly fantasized about marrying him, and would always try to buy every magazine he was on. I threw them all away in college when I had to move, but I'm sure I had 100+ magazines with him on the cover.

I always thought Leif Garrett was gross.

But I also didn’t like teen heart throbs. I liked older men. I was obsessed with Jim Palmer and his underwear. I used to fantasize he would climb a ladder to my window in only those Jockeys. I was 11 and just hitting puberty.

by Anonymousreply 29July 20, 2025 5:28 PM

R17 that picture is hot. I wonder if Depp and Peter DeLuise ever had each other.

Absolutely, R30.

by Anonymousreply 34July 20, 2025 5:35 PM

I was in middle school when "Family Ties" was one of the big shows, and I was obsessed with Michael J. Fox. I even started wearing Oxford shirts to mimic his character's preppiness.

by Anonymousreply 35July 20, 2025 6:01 PM

oh, another big influence: River Phoenix and Wil Wheaton after seeing Stand By Me in the theaters.

I think I wanted to be Wil's character and have River's as my best friend. I was too young to think about [italic]wanting[/italic] either of them. lol

But when Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon came out...

by Anonymousreply 36July 20, 2025 6:05 PM

Chris Atkins all the way. I masturbated to him a lot. Like a LOT!!

by Anonymousreply 51July 21, 2025 1:32 AM

My favorite Vince's career wasn't illustrious. None of the sitcoms/series on which he was a regular made it, afaik. I remember Apple's Way, an Earl Hamner Jr. series. I think it was on two seasons. When VVP was 16-17. I saw him play tennis once at Longwood. He won a big tennis tournament in Japan, defeating John McEnroe.

Since you're asking people who are now adults to name their teen heartthrobs from back in the day, when they themselves were very young, I'm curious as to why you felt you had to add the disclaimer that this is not a "pedo thread?"

by Anonymousreply 59July 21, 2025 6:23 AM

R57 Apple's Way was a how featured by Viewmaster? That's wild.

Yeah, I actually liked it, too, but I think it was on Sunday nights (?)..and I must have had another show I wanted to watch because I didn't see it that much.

A church where I live, that has a coffeehouse, has had Ronny Cox (the dad on the show) play there a few times. Singer-songwriter. I should have gone.

by Anonymousreply 60July 21, 2025 2:35 PM

From 2019:

Ronny Cox’s Wikipedia entry describes him as an actor, singer-songwriter and storyteller, but as far as he’s concerned, it’s the other way around. “Singing Storyteller” definitely comes first. That becomes evident as soon as he starts reeling off bits of his history, delivering one fascinating anecdote after another about his music career, his myriad stage and screen roles, and even his lengthy marriage to his high-school sweetheart, the only girlfriend he ever had.

In concert, using nothing more than the power of his projected words, Ronny captivates listeners with all kinds of stories. Some are spoken; some are sung. But either way, he’s employing that age-old art form to forge connections he says he can’t as an actor. Ronny is often recognized for appearances in Deliverance, RoboCop, Beverly Hills Cop, Dexter, St. Elsewhere, and recently in Nashville’s final season. However Ronny’s many recordings made him an award winning socially responsible singer-songwriter, in 2018 winning Best American Roots Song for “Bus to Baltimore” about Alzheimer’s disease. (RonnyCox.com)

If he'd have brought Vince with him I'd have gone to see him.

by Anonymousreply 62July 21, 2025 3:11 PM

There's still a chance to relive the glory, folks.
