Rosie's Fight With Barbara Walters

Rosie should have been fired on the spot for that kind of behavior.

by Anonymousreply 77July 21, 2025 3:43 PM

Such drama…

by Anonymousreply 1July 20, 2025 1:51 PM

Rosie got in Barbara Walters face, screamed at her and told her horrible things because Barbara didn't defend her against Donald Trump's attacks towards her because of a fight she started.

by Anonymousreply 2July 20, 2025 1:55 PM

Rosie started a fight with an innocent Donald Trump.

by Anonymousreply 3July 20, 2025 2:04 PM

Barbara was way too savvy to fire Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 4July 20, 2025 2:09 PM

Rosie was right....as usual.

by Anonymousreply 5July 20, 2025 2:13 PM

R6 Rosie took accountability for what she did. She said she regretted doing it. What more do you want from her? Blood?

And frankly, Rosie was not wrong with her evisceration of Donald Trump.

by Anonymousreply 6July 20, 2025 2:56 PM

R5 Correction: Rosie was a vulgar, classless, mentally ill fatass as usual who threatened Barbara Walters.

by Anonymousreply 7July 20, 2025 2:57 PM

Everyone on the View kissed Walter’s ass but if you ever watched the show Walters was fucking awful on it. It was called The View but Walters refused to ever give an opinion, supposedly to maintain her journalistic “impartiality” but really because she didn’t want to lose out on potential interview subjects by saying something negative about them or she didn’t want to piss off the other rich famous people socialized with. I remember when Paris Hilton went to jail the panel was all speaking negatively about her an Barbara sat there trying to tamp down the criticism, clearly desperate to stay in the Hilton family’s good graces and to win the first interview with Paris after she got out of jail. Then Paris talked to Larry Kong instead and you could tell Barbara was pissed.

by Anonymousreply 8July 20, 2025 3:04 PM

Barbara was a prissy, mean, Republican asshole. We have seen time and time again what someone is made of when it comes to Donald Trump. Barbara failed big-time. She was a star fucker, plain, and simple.

Rosie is a mess, but too sensitive to work under a shark like Walters. Why she tried to make Barbara her “mom” is beyond me. She must really have a complex about losing her mother so young.

by Anonymousreply 9July 20, 2025 3:09 PM

R8 Larry Kong was even worse than Larry King. I didn't give a shit.

by Anonymousreply 10July 20, 2025 3:11 PM

Barbara was a Trump crony who was obviously mesmerized by his wealth and who loved hanging out with him, but she did draw the line when he started the Obama birther bullshit and stated on The View that he was making a fool of himself.

by Anonymousreply 11July 20, 2025 3:15 PM

Larry King was a hoot to watch and a real interviewer. He got old and didn’t give a damn anymore and that made for good comedy, but his show was pretty solid. I always hated when he opened the phone lines up because their questions sucked and his were always good.

Barbara was teacher’s pet. And what’s up with that affected accent on top of the speech impediment? She was a New Yorker born and bread and she tried to sound like Martha Stewart. Bitch, your dad was in with the mob.

by Anonymousreply 12July 20, 2025 3:17 PM

BRED*

by Anonymousreply 13July 20, 2025 3:18 PM

Wow, I'd never seen any of those clips before. Both of them are being very honest about the conflict.

Rosie insulted Trump on the View. She's a stand-up comedienne, and she did it in a funny way (the impression with the voice and hair flip). The insult didn't come out of nowhere. She was responding to a news story in which Trump publicly judged the moral behavior of a young woman who was a contestant in one of his beauty pageants. She called him out on being a hypocrite.

Trump immediately began escalating the conflict. He got booked on talk shows just so he could publicly criticize her. He even threatened her relationship, saying that he wanted to meet Rosie's wife Kelly so that he could show her what a real man was like. I think this is when the public first learned about his ability to hold a grudge and how unhinged he could act when he felt personally slighted.

Barbara didn't want to take sides. She probably wanted to ignore the whole thing until it went away. Barbara considered Trump a "friend of the View", or more likely a business contact that she might be able to get favors from in NYC. Also, she must have known him for decades, from when she bearded for his attorney, Cohn. Rosie was hurt that Barbara wasn't defending her enough. But, what did she expect Barbara to do? Say something like, "I wasn't here last week when Rosie made those remarks about Trump, but I saw it on TV, and I agree with her! Trump, stop being mean to Rosie!". Hell, we have a couple hundred congresspersons who can't do that now.

So, Rosie, a grown-ass woman, starts screaming at Barbara for not standing up for her against Trump. While physically intimidating her, a short, frail late-70s woman, by "getting in her face". She has the audacity to say "I tell people that when I stand up, they should leave the room or hang up the phone." Isn't that a classic line used by abusers? The person didn't leave, so it's their fault that I screamed at them. Imagine being one of her partners or kids.

It's interesting to revisit the feud now that we've seen how unhinged Trump is with his grudges. And last month's documentary shows how Barbara had trouble connecting with people emotionally and empathizing with them. (I suspect she was on the spectrum, but her case was very mild compared to her sister's.) It still doesn't give Rosie the right to scream at people. She's been known to verbally abuse others, including her colleagues at McCall's magazine. In some ways, she's like Trump: loud, dating much younger trophy wives.

by Anonymousreply 14July 20, 2025 3:48 PM

Team Rosie - she had the balls to call things out. Barbara was always both-siding everything, including her affection for Roy Cohn.

Barbara's only goal in life was access to power and celebrities. Ironically, SHE never gave HER true view on topics - she let everyone else do that and get mud on themselves.

And that right-wing producer Bill was a total POS.

by Anonymousreply 15July 20, 2025 3:55 PM

strange concept

providing a forum for women to express themselves but the participants fulfill every negative stereotype of a shrill, loud argumentative woman who demands to be in charge and have the last word.

by Anonymousreply 16July 20, 2025 4:08 PM

[quote] He got booked on talk shows just so he could publicly criticize her.

That's why I stopped watching Kimmel and Letterman. No matter how much Kimmell is anti Trump NOW, then he sat there and laughed his head off. Now when he hosts The Oscars, I tape it and forward past him.

[quote]Rosie was hurt that Barbara wasn't defending her enough. But, what did she expect Barbara to do?

What she was supposed to do is say, is I can't take sides because I'm a journalist, but I stand with Rosie for giving her opinion, even if it isn't pretty. I created this show so women could have a voice and we will continue to do that.

by Anonymousreply 17July 20, 2025 4:09 PM

I remember reading somewhere that the incident backstage that Barbara didn't want to talk about was Rosie crying and saying to Barbara "Mommy, you didn't protect me from the bad man!"

In Rosie's mind, Barbara was her mother and Trump was her abusive father.

Rosie had and still has some SERIOUS issues.

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2025 4:26 PM

Rosie was right about Trump from Day 1.

She warned the world and no one listened because she's a fat lesbian.

All the drama we would have avoided if we had laughed him off collectively.

Walters dies alone unaware of who she was, not that many years after all of this.

by Anonymousreply 19July 20, 2025 4:34 PM

Rosie seems like a miserable person. Totally humorless and possibly crazy.

by Anonymousreply 20July 20, 2025 4:35 PM

Christ, I HATED Barbara Walters. Self-important as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2025 4:39 PM

Poor Barbara. She had to deal with so many crazy bitches on The View. Here's Elisabeth losing her shit on air and backstage.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 22July 20, 2025 4:42 PM

The View exemplified why woman should not have opinions. Rosie's grimace is the stuff of nightmares.

by Anonymousreply 23July 20, 2025 4:43 PM

R20 Hey now, I’m smiling! 😬

by Anonymousreply 24July 20, 2025 4:47 PM

Wrong link R22.

by Anonymousreply 25July 20, 2025 4:48 PM

R25 Let me try again. It's a Youtube short.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 26July 20, 2025 4:55 PM

The link isn't working for me. But I know the clip that you're talking about. Elisabeth is in her dressing room complaining over and over again that Barbara "scolded" her on air, and Joy is trying to calm her down.

by Anonymousreply 27July 20, 2025 4:57 PM

I may not be a fan of Rosie, but I'm not going to take the side of a Kissinger ass-kisser like Walters.

by Anonymousreply 28July 20, 2025 5:03 PM

R27 Yes it's that one. Too bad the link doesn't work. You hear Elisabeth saying "I will not have that woman scold me in front of everyone!" Then you see her back on the air, basically sitting on Barbara's lap like a little girl with tears in her eyes. Level of maturity: 0%.

by Anonymousreply 29July 20, 2025 5:16 PM

Rosie's first stint on The View in hindsight was groundbreaking. She discussed things that had largely been downplayed by the mainstream media prior (including 9/11 conspiracy theories, Trump's alleged business genius, going into Iraq under false pretenses,) and got vilified by many of the same people who are now screaming outrage over the current administration. A LOT of people owe her an apology, and acknowledgement. She is largely responsible for The View going into a more political direction. The show most likely would have been cancelled decades ago had it not had that shift.

But that being said, she is not ensemble material. She has always worked best navigating her own ship. Also, she's carried more than her own childish, downright weird feuds. People forget she joined in along with the media in the piling on of Star Jones up until her departure. Why she was irritated over Jones not being honest about how she lost weight, I'll never know. But she bullied Jones. Thankfully, they made up years later.

[quote]It was Star Jones’ gastric bypass surgery and her refusal to admit the medical intervention that irked O’Donnell the most. And so, she tagged Jones with an irritating nickname. “When Rosie was interviewed on other programs,” Walters wrote, “before she began on The View, she had accused Star of being dishonest about her weight loss. As a guest on The View, Rosie had said to [Star’s] face, ‘It’s like Twinkle Twinkle Shrinking Star.’ “ Jones eventually opened up about her surgery when she was ready to do so.

by Anonymousreply 30July 20, 2025 5:34 PM

R12 Barbara was not born in New York. She was born in Boston and raised next door in Brookline, MA. Her father Lou Walters ran the original Latin Quarter nightclub in Boston. When Barbara was 13, her father opened the NYC version of the club and the family moved to CPW.

Still doesn’t account for the accent, though.

by Anonymousreply 31July 20, 2025 5:37 PM

R17, that era of The View was crazy. Hadn't Rosie also insinuated that Star's husband was gay? (Years later, he did come out as bisexual.). Star said that's one of the reasons she decided to leave the show, because she didn't want to work with someone who had attacked her family member.

On Star's last episode, Star announced that she would be leaving the show, while her coworkers appeared shocked.

Then. the next day of the show, Star was gone. Barbara announced that Star had known for months that she was being let go, and the show had been planning the announcement to make the news look good for both sides. But because Star had gone rogue and announced the news without warning, the show had now fired her on the spot. The clip of Barbara's statement is attached.

That was the first time I remember the show being all over the news. Then when Rosie joined, The View continued to be on the news regularly because of the discussion on the show: discussions about war in Iraq, the Trump feud, and tense moments with Elisabeth..I remember buying a TIVO just to record the View.

by Anonymousreply 32July 20, 2025 5:58 PM

R18, I never heard that, but it makes sense.

Years after the Rosie's public conflict with Elisabeth, Joy told the book "Ladies who Punch" that Rosie had had a crush on Elisabeth, and that's why the situation escalated the way it did. Rosie admitted that it was the truth.

by Anonymousreply 33July 20, 2025 6:02 PM

It escalated because Elisabeth is a self-righteous asshole. All she had to say was she didn’t believe Rosie considered our troops to be terrorists. But she couldn’t do it because that was the narrative Fox News was trying to spin. Rosie was rightfully pissed because she’d considered Elisabeth a friend.

by Anonymousreply 34July 20, 2025 6:12 PM

[quote] Hadn't Rosie also insinuated that Star's husband was gay?

He was gay. And Star was using her job to shake down companies to sponsor her extravagant wedding. And she was lying about her weight loss.

It all added up to the target View watcher feeling like she was disingenuous. She really overplayed her hand.

by Anonymousreply 35July 20, 2025 6:30 PM

Rosie was not saying anything about Star that anyone who watched the show wasn’t saying. If Star was that off putting on camera I can only imagine what she was like backstage.

by Anonymousreply 36July 20, 2025 6:42 PM

I’ve never understood why Ryan Murphy didn’t option Ladies Who Punch for a season of Feud. There’s so much to fucking work with. I guess maybe he’s too afraid of getting sued?

by Anonymousreply 37July 20, 2025 6:43 PM

And Star would be the first in line to do so, R37! She’s a truly vile human being;

by Anonymousreply 38July 20, 2025 6:44 PM

I love that idea but it might not be mainstream enough, r37. Too bad because some of his best work has been based off of trashy celebrity journalism. Menendez, OJ, Versace and Feud were all better than his recent pure fiction shows (Ratchet, Hollywood, the vast majority of AHS)

by Anonymousreply 39July 20, 2025 7:12 PM

Ro is returning to performing again.

by Anonymousreply 40July 20, 2025 7:22 PM

R18 - I don't believe that for a second.

Rosie's not going to talk like that - protect me from the bad man? Please.

However - she was wrongfully attacked by Trump and she deserved support from Walters, who wanted to keep favor with Trump because that's who she is.

by Anonymousreply 41July 20, 2025 7:40 PM

Walter's was Roy Con's beard. Con served as a mentor to orange jesus.

by Anonymousreply 42July 20, 2025 7:43 PM

R42 - yes, Walters claimed to have dated Cohn way back when - and Cohn supposedly helped with her adoption and helped her father with some legal issues (which I think is 100% bullshit). She testified for Cohn during his disbarment hearing in 1986.

Walters also fucked a married Senator (to get access to others in the Senate?), she dated Alan Greenspan, and was a close friend of Fox News Roger Ailes. She got super close to Kissinger and basically white-washed his name and did PR for him.

She really didn't care about character - at all. Fame and power and that SHE knew them and could use her connections. A lot of famous people do this - so she's by no means alone. Not even close.

But when you've surrounded yourself with some of the worst people of the 20th century and consider them close friends - that shows you who you are.

by Anonymousreply 43July 20, 2025 7:53 PM

hollow and fake. Kissinger who was an odious fuck, fucked all those women too. Heterosexual men are in short supply in those circles. Protestors showed up at Kissinger's memorial service to tell his direct decadents he was a war criminal. That his legacy.

by Anonymousreply 44July 20, 2025 7:59 PM

decedents, lol

by Anonymousreply 45July 20, 2025 8:00 PM

"Walters' parents had spent their final years in Florida, residing in Miami, with her father a resident of Douglas Gardens Jewish Home for the Aged."

Ok - Douglas Gardens Jewish Home for the Aged is for LOW INCOME SENIORS on HUD. She was worth around $200 million and had made big money for DECADES and her parents are in low-income housing? Nevermind that her parents were relatively well off and got back on their feet after their business decline in the late 50s.

That's gross - both fraud on her and her parents' part, but also disgusting that she didn't provide better for her parents.

by Anonymousreply 46July 20, 2025 8:04 PM

GRIFT GRIFT GRIFT.

Did you get a look at the shit Walter's estate had auction

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 47July 20, 2025 8:11 PM

[quote]Rosie was hurt that Barbara wasn't defending her enough. But, what did she expect Barbara to do?

Exactly - Walters was not her mother, her lover, her legal guardian. She was her employer - she had no responsibilities to defend the actions of a successful business woman in her mid-30s.

What I don't understand is: Oprah has them both on, at different times telling their side of the story. She hears Barbara (the employer's ) troubled experience with this worker. She hears Rosie's troubling experience with her employer.

Oprah thinks it's a wise decision to hire Rosie for a new talk show on her new network a few years later ???

by Anonymousreply 48July 20, 2025 8:13 PM

Rosie has a tendency toward hysterics and always has, but she at least remains true to herself, which I give her credit for. I think she believes everything she speaks and is an honest person. Barbara, on the other hand, was a vile, backstabbing cunt for most of her life. She gets no sympathy from me.

by Anonymousreply 49July 20, 2025 8:21 PM

R20- What she is - is a

BIG FAT BULLY

by Anonymousreply 50July 20, 2025 8:36 PM

Someone complaining about a bully while calling them fat is, in fact, a bully.

by Anonymousreply 51July 20, 2025 8:39 PM

Rosie put The View on the map after years of it faltering in the ratings. She brought a huge number of new viewers because she was fearless as she called things as she saw them

by Anonymousreply 52July 20, 2025 8:44 PM

Agreed - that's when I started watching (added this to my DVR).

However, why would a fearless woman fear Trump after she started a fight with him, and then run to Walters for protection ?

by Anonymousreply 53July 20, 2025 8:56 PM

Back-up, r53, not protection.

by Anonymousreply 54July 20, 2025 9:04 PM

R54 It was indeed.

by Anonymousreply 55July 20, 2025 9:07 PM

Rosie was so emotionally honest, BaBa was not prepared to deal with Trump on that level.

Barbara was Queen Bee of female newscasters, but also a maven on NYC nightlife who had Roy Cohn as a walker for social events.

The public saw the disagreement with one Barbara, but Rosie knew the full story.

by Anonymousreply 56July 20, 2025 9:23 PM

What does Star do nowadays for money? Did she make THAT much from The View?

by Anonymousreply 57July 20, 2025 9:34 PM

babs was close fwiends with Roy Cohn, dumps' mentor. Even if she wanted to, she could not get involved in that ugly dispute.

by Anonymousreply 58July 20, 2025 10:09 PM

Is there anyone Rosie hasn't feuded with? Donald Trump, Barbara Walters, Star Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Tom Selleck, Kelly Rippa, Ellen Degeneres (I think)... am I missing someone?

by Anonymousreply 59July 20, 2025 10:18 PM

R58 Roy Cohn died in 1986.

by Anonymousreply 60July 20, 2025 10:20 PM

R60 - yes, but Trump was very close to him and was mentored by him - Barbara knew that and knew Trump, so she wasn't going to go after Trump or back Rosie at all.

Barbara is a typical Republican - she doesn't care about who get hurt, bad policies, truth, morals - just as long as she's close to people in power and people can see it. Just like every R politician in DC - and every right-wing commentator who goes on TV to lie for them.

by Anonymousreply 61July 20, 2025 10:29 PM

the same can be said about your orange jesus, always involved in a nasty cat fight.

undignified.

by Anonymousreply 62July 20, 2025 10:34 PM

[quote]Is there anyone Rosie hasn't feuded with? Donald Trump, Barbara Walters, Star Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Tom Selleck, Kelly Rippa, Ellen Degeneres (I think)... am I missing someone?

LoL, r59, given that list, I'm definitely Team Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 63July 20, 2025 10:41 PM

Ditto, r63...

by Anonymousreply 64July 20, 2025 10:46 PM

The triumvirate of twats

Barbara Walters, Cindy Adams and Judge Judy.

by Anonymousreply 65July 20, 2025 10:46 PM

Harridans three, r65.

Gee, you think for a stranger that you've never met and she has issues? OK then.

by Anonymousreply 67July 20, 2025 10:56 PM

Barbara didn't fire Elisabeth either when she walked off and refused to come back over, being singled out for her abortion stance.

by Anonymousreply 68July 20, 2025 11:40 PM

R67 Rosie was on TikTok for a long time making videos about her mental health issues.

by Anonymousreply 69July 20, 2025 11:57 PM

R33, I don’t think you’ve read the book.

by Anonymousreply 70July 21, 2025 1:36 AM

[QUOTE] Is there anyone Rosie hasn't feuded with? ...Ellen Degeneres (I think)... am I missing someone?

I think they get along now. Ellen reposted Rosie's response to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 71July 21, 2025 1:47 AM

[Quote] She [Barbara] was a New Yorker born and bread and she tried to sound like Martha Stewart.

And Martha Kostyra Stewart is a Pole born in Jersey City.

by Anonymousreply 72July 21, 2025 1:56 AM

I had always heard Rosie and Rachel Maddow did not get along at all, because Rosie publicly said she was promised the 9 pm slot on MSNBC in the late 2000s (when Dan Abrams left) and MSNBC struck a deal with Maddow instead. For some reason, she blamed Maddow on this and not MSNBC execs.

by Anonymousreply 73July 21, 2025 12:02 PM

Rosie doesn't get along with Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 74July 21, 2025 12:20 PM

Yes Rosie is people impossible but any attack on that manipulative exploiting sensationalist Baba Wawa was great entertainment. Hated that ‘’woman’’ and ever so glad it’s dead.

by Anonymousreply 75July 21, 2025 3:16 PM

Did Walter’s daughter write a mommy dearest?

by Anonymousreply 76July 21, 2025 3:18 PM

[quote]Walters was not her mother, her lover, her legal guardian. She was her employer - she had no responsibilities to defend the actions of a successful business woman in her mid-30s.

Dude, we aren't talking about a Taco Bell employee. He attacked her all over the world. You know his fans, even then. She had to hire armed body guards to get her kids to school. There were death threats. Walters apparently didn't give a shit. So there must be a reason Walter's own kid had nothing to do with her for decades.
