I'm sure these companies, perhaps start ups with cash to burn, offer them huge sums for very little work endorsing some dumb product, and it is too much cash to turn down.

The Friends cast makes 20 million a year from residuals, still. It's the best gig they will ever have. However, just because you make 20 million a year, doesn't mean you would like to make 21 million a year or 25 million a year while you still can.
