Gen Z finds Uptown Girl to be sinister

It's a groomer anthem!

Old "story" from January

by Anonymousreply 1July 19, 2025 11:56 PM

Don't introduce them to that Benny Mardones song. They might die on the spot.

by Anonymousreply 2July 19, 2025 11:56 PM

Many Gen Zers haven't recovered from Hot Child in the City.

by Anonymousreply 3July 20, 2025 12:02 AM

Rachel Zegler should perform it.

by Anonymousreply 4July 20, 2025 12:07 AM

This is why we hate them. Plain and simple.

by Anonymousreply 6July 20, 2025 12:46 AM

Gen Zs are mostly shrieking, paranoid virgins.

I avoid their weirdness as much as possible.

by Anonymousreply 7July 20, 2025 4:29 AM

Gen Z apparently can’t even make contact, according to this week’s zeitgeist.

One step at a time.

by Anonymousreply 8July 20, 2025 4:44 AM

Where in the song does it say the woman is underage or even younger than the man?

by Anonymousreply 9July 20, 2025 5:18 AM

It has to be exhausting looking for reasons to be offended 24/7 and then feeling the deluded need to share these meaningless observations to the world for cheap attention.

And, of course, carrying that giant, woke chip on your shoulder all the time.

by Anonymousreply 10July 20, 2025 5:25 AM

The only song I could actually encourage Gen-Zers to feel offended about is the utterly annoying "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.

by Anonymousreply 11July 20, 2025 5:29 AM

To be fair, the premises of this post really only involves one young chick and her two friends, and so it's kind of a stretch to say most of them feel this way. I doubt most of them even know this song. Although yes, many of them are prudish and constantly offended, so, who knows.

by Anonymousreply 12July 20, 2025 5:30 AM

Gen Z is so very right!

by Anonymousreply 13July 20, 2025 5:42 AM

I mean… just appreciate Billy’s songwriting and the harmonies.

I know it’s not ART like Doechii singing over a 15-year-old karaoke track, but still…

by Anonymousreply 14July 20, 2025 5:44 AM

Yeah, THAT'S the Billy Joel song about grooming...

Don't they also find Baby, It's Cold Outside sinister?

I worked with a Gen Z woman a few years ago. You couldn't talk, around her. She was friendly, then she would turn argumentative when anyone mentioned anything she interpreted as being offensive (not offensive to her, personally--I mean socially offensive--sexist, stuff like that). Everyone had to walk on egg shells.

by Anonymousreply 17July 20, 2025 11:31 AM

I'm not seeing in OP's story why this exactly Gen Z person took offense at the song, let alone that they thought it was about "grooming."

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2025 11:50 AM

This article has basically no info and doesn’t even imply the song offended these kids. Actually, it seems like they were making fun of how annoying and shitty it is. They’re right. This is one of the worst songs of all time.
