I nominate Brian Dunkleman and Taylor Kitsch.

A declassified government memo in 2018 revealed that Cabot was invited by the CIA to a party with King Hussein of Jordan, who was in Los Angeles on a trip and desired female company. While she did not necessarily wish to accomplish the CIA goal of "go to bed with him", she went to the party and evidently found him charming.

Cabot soon had a seven-year affair with King Hussein of Jordan (which the CIA was aware of) and their only child, Timothy Scott, was born out of wedlock in 1964. She received $1500 in monthly support from Hussein. In 1968, she married her second husband Michael Roman with whom she raised Timothy, before again divorcing in 1983

In the last years of her life, Cabot suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts, and was prey to a wide range of irrational, powerful fears. She was under a licensed psychologist's care, but the psychologist found her so troubled and ill that the sessions became "emotionally draining."

Cabot became increasingly unable to care for herself; the interior of her home was littered with spoiled food and old newspapers.

In late 1986, Cabot's mental health deteriorated significantly. Despite the squalor of the home's interior, Cabot still maintained an "adequate" income despite having retired from acting, largely due to real estate investments and her fascination with vintage cars, which she regularly acquired, restored, and resold.[11] Death

On December 10, 1986, Cabot's 22-year-old son, Timothy Scott Roman, bludgeoned her to death in her home in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles, with a weightlifting bar.

He was charged with second-degree murder

At trial, Roman testified that his mother had awakened him while screaming, not recognizing him, and calling for her mother, Elizabeth. When he attempted to call emergency services, she attacked him with a barbell bar and a scalpel. Roman seized the bar from her and beat her repeatedly on the head

I wouldn't say unluckiest - just a very unfortunate blank mantle year after year - after year after year.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. They were on top of the world and thought themselves invincible. Now look at them.

Peak Schadenfreude.

R37 she had an ok career but that cover doomed her as Harvey had her convinced she was the next superstar. Unfortunately for her, the public was not convinced.

Carol Haney. Gene Kelly's dance assistant. Was going to have the Cyd Charisse part in Singin' in the Rain (directed by Gene, and Stanley Donen), until Arthur Freed (producer) nixed her for Cyd Charisse (who went on to stardom). Haney had to coach Cyd in thechoreography she had already learned for the number.

A few years later, the night Hal Wallis (big producer working through Paramount) came to see her in The Pajama Game on Broadway, to consider her for a Martin-Lewis movie, she was sick and her young understudy, Shirley MacLaine, went on for her. MacLaine, rushed onstage, and inexperienced, impressed Wallis and he signed her to a contract and starred her in the Martin-Lewis movie, while Hitchcock starred her in another movie. And she went on to a brilliant career.

Carol Haney won a Tony for The Pajama Game and was fairly well known to the public, but she had some weirdly bad breaks. Then she died young.

by Anonymousreply 47July 27, 2025 6:28 PM

R24 I looked her up and couldn't find anything that would indicate she was particularly unlucky, other than that her husband died.

What's her story?

R28 They both need to thank Baldoni because their careers approaching ending the end of their lifelines. Ryan is a one note actor who can only do a particular type of comedy hence the reason most of his films flop. Lowkey every non IP film he has ever done flopped. That Free Guy movie is actually a brilliant little action flick but its roll out was impacted by the pandemic; it did eventually make its money back though. Blake is a tv actress and tabloid star who is just decent on the big screen and good looking but not beautiful. The Baldoni saga keeps their names in public consciousness for a few more years and makes her sympathetic amongst the capitalistic feminists in Hollywood. I said what I said as always and am usually right.

The singer-songwriter Poe really got fucked over due to a dispute with her record company. I can't remember the details, but she wasn't able to release music or perform professionally for ten years. Particularly sad given how ahead of her time she was in cultivating an online fanbase, and what a great album Haunted is.

Darvi's family settled in France when she was one year old.

When the Germans invaded France during World War II, Darvi's mother fled to southern France with her sister and two brothers.

Darvi decided to stay in Paris for her education along with her brother Robert. Both were eventually jailed by the Vichy government due to their Polish background. She was fifteen years old. Robert died in a concentration camp.

"I had the usual experiences of hunger and humiliation, and I try not to think of them and discuss them but I can never forget them," she later said.

She starred opposite Richard Widmark in Sam Fuller's film Hell and High Water (1954) which started filming in April 1953. She was injured during filming when knocked over.

In February 1959, she was injured in a car crash in Paris when a taxi she was riding in was hit by another car. She was in Jules' Breadwinner (1960) and The Woman of Ice.

In August 1962 she was found unconscious in her hotel room in Monte Carlo after taking an overdose of barbiturates. She eventually recovered.

In 1968 she was found again after an overdose of barbiturates.

On September 11, 1971, after several failed attempts, Darvi committed suicide, in Monte Carlo by gas. Her body remained undiscovered for more than a week

Betsy Slade

She was Brian De Palma's first choice to play Carrie White but Sissy Spacek nailed her audition and went on to Oscar winning superstardom. Slade did episodes of Police Woman and The Streets of San Francisco and gave birth to the paper boy from Better Off Dead. Her sister Mink Stole got the (slightly) higher profile career as a John Waters muse

Oh wow, R66. Thanks for that story. Carrie White is certainly an iconic role but I wonder if was it because of SS or would it have worked with anyone good? The mom was also phenomenal.

by Anonymousreply 67July 28, 2025 1:01 PM

R62 seems more like a "Sad tales from old Hollywood" post.
