She's not Italian. I believe she is Cuban. I remember I had an interesting conversation with her once. I have no idea how it came about. This was AGES ago in the late 90s or early aughts. I was out all the time and I got to know someone NYC luminary night light people off hours. I first met Amanda when she was dancing at LIFE in the village with Sophia Lamar and (Girl)Lina was a host and Honey Dijon was spinning in the front and Lady Bunny in the back VIP room. The one thing I remember is that she was married very young (at least she said she was married) and living in Jersey City or somewhere like that on the outskirts of Manhattan. She felt trapped in that relationship and one night snuck out of the window to go live her fabulous life in Manhattan. It could all be made up, but that was her story. The thing I do remember is that she said she was Cuban.
One of the more surreal moments I had in NYC, years after, was going to the Panera on 7th avenue for lunch and Amanda Lapore was sitting at a table herself eating one of their bread, soup combos. She's very sweet, btw. That might be a cover too. But she is not guarded and will talk to you if you chat her up, no airs about her. Her body, her face, her persona is her work of art and her legacy. And it obviously has longevity. I first met her going on 30 years ago.
