what is eastern massachusetts like?

is it like westchester?

by Anonymousreply 22July 18, 2025 4:57 PM

In Eastern Massachusetts all seems to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

Eastern Massachusetts is a diverse region characterized by a blend of urban, suburban, and coastal environments. It encompasses major cities like Boston, historical sites, and scenic areas like Cape Cod. The area is known for its rich history, cultural attractions, and access to world-class education and healthcare

Boston is in eastern Massachusetts. The people there make Brooklynites seem like Rhodes Scholars.

Massholes and Taxachusetts.

[quote] I grew up adjacent to Eastern Massachusetts and heard "what are ya? Fuckin' RETAHDED?" constantly. Our delicate flowers here would've had a nervous breakdown.

r4 feels quite clever respewing the only two phrases he's ever heard about the Boston area, very clever inseed.

If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air...

by Anonymousreply 7July 18, 2025 11:45 AM

R3 Sounds like you've never been to Massachusetts or New York.

by Anonymousreply 8July 18, 2025 11:48 AM

I’m from there. It’s a little smarter, more liberal, better-functioning and a lot more expensive than most of the rest of the nation. Long cold winters, though global warming is changing that a little.

Eastern Mass is on the ocean, silly. It's home to beautiful, quaint, New Englandy seaside fishing villages, such as stunning Lynn, MA. Be sure to visit!

by Anonymousreply 10July 18, 2025 12:44 PM

LOL, poor Lynn. I remember when they toyed with renaming themselves “Ocean Park” to try to shake off their bad rep.

Adding to R9 - the architecture still looks all quaint and old timey yet the whole region is getting more diverse, across dozens of ethnicities. Several of the Boston suburbs and even exurbs have become a destination for well educated multinationals with kids who want the semblance of a comfortable American life but with some diversity and without much MAGA.

Every once in a while SNL can still hit it out of the park.

I spent 3 1/2 of the most miserable years of my life in grad school in CT (I didn't just leave CT -- I escaped!) and I used to say that the people of Mass are the most normal of all the New Englanders.

But you know, it's all relative.

by Anonymousreply 13July 18, 2025 3:53 PM

What was wrong with CT, r13? I've never been.

by Anonymousreply 14July 18, 2025 4:03 PM

r13 it was probably just you.

Not only was CT frigid with snow up to your ass about half the year (the 7' piles of plowed snow turn black from all the dirt, but they never melt), the people who live there are just as cold as the weather. Even neighbors you see every day won't wave to you, and no one will speak to you at all except to yell at you for something they think you've done wrong; and if your family doesn't go back practically to the Mayflower, you're "new."

I could tell you stories all day, but I'm too lazy (see the "How lazy are you?" thread).

by Anonymousreply 16July 18, 2025 4:10 PM

^^Born and raised in CT and except for the part about the weather, everything else is bullshit, esp. the Mayflower bullshit. CT is pretty diverse and that old WASP snobbery died out generations ago.
