Dame Joan Collins is not happy with today's London - e-bikes, scooters and graffiti !
The actress Dame Joan Collins has decried the “invasion” of London by e-bikes and scooters, claiming that she had been “almost run over twice by Lime bikes”.
Collins, 92, said the capital was being “destroyed by the insidious antics” of its mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan, and blighted by graffiti and road closures.
She accused delivery riders on rental e-bikes of being the “most dangerous” road users given the sheer volume of deliveries they made in a day.
Writing a diary column in The Spectator, Collins said: “Several news outlets are reporting the surge in the dangerous crossings of immigrants coming to our shores, and the cost of giving them succour. But I’m seeing an invasion of a different sort: the proliferation of rental bikes and powered scooters that litter our pavements.
“I’ve recently been almost run over twice by ‘Lime bikes’ … Everyone I know has experienced the rudeness and sloppiness of most of these bike riders. They seem to care not for road rules, pedestrians, safety, or anyone but themselves. The bikes dart recklessly between vehicles.”
As well as almost being run over by Lime bikes, Collins, who has recently been filming The Bitter End, a film about the Duchess of Windsor Wallis Simpson’s latter days, said she has also “tripped over a bunch of discarded cycles on the streets of Belgravia”.
E-bikes are “dockless”, allowing users to park them in designated zones across the city. In some places the bikes can be left anywhere in a certain area, in others they have to be lined up in a parking bay. Lime asks users to park their bikes “neatly”, wherever they are left.

This is the first and almost certainly the last time that I'll agree with Joan on anything, but on e-scooters, I agree.
Their use has exploded in my city over the past couple of years. Conceptually, I support the concept as an alternative means of public transport that gets people out of their cars.
But practically, nobody thought of the impact of thousands of these things just abandoned after use all over the CBD - and this is kind of personal but they are all lime and bright red which are my two most hated colours. Throw in riders treating the footpath like a road and that they are silent so that you never know when one is hurtling from behind. And on weekend nights especially being used by drunk or worse people giving their mates a lift because it's such a laugh.
The plus side for a small segment of the locals in my neighbourhood is that it has really made working conditions for dealers much easier - they can zoom from pick-up to drop-off all night - profits must be way up so I guess that that's good for the economy.
I don't want to see them go away but I do want some sort of enquiry into making their use safer for everyone and less ugly in the environment. We are getting fatalities each week - that has to stop.

Joan may be an old cunt but on this, she's right.
And I am generally pro-transit, pro-bikes, etc. But scooters in particular need more regulation.
Let's not forget fabulous lesbian actress Lisa Banes was killed a few years back because some fucking dumb asshole was riding a scooter at high speeds on a sidewalk and knocked her to the ground.
Dumb fucks will get off their scooters and just leave them in the middle of the sidewalk. One fell on me once and I was knocked over - and while I am not quite in Fat Whore territory I am no petite flower either.

Memory is a funny thing, but I guess she doesn't remember the graffiti of ancient Roman times in Londinium.
I kind of get where she's coming from about e-scooters and bikes, but the public transit benefit outweighs the downside of having to deal with yutzes with no spatial awareness who leave them lying around. Guess what? It's a city - there are A LOT of yutzes with no spatial awareness, and if she's not paying attention enough not to possibly trip over them, she is one of them.

R9/ R11 its exactly the same in Auckland. They are a fucking pain in the ass for cyclists as well as pedestrians. She's right, they are a problem, far more downside than upside. I'd be happy to see them gone. The privately owned ones are fine, its the rentals that cause practically all the issues, and the fatalities - yeah we have had a few of those too

People at that age, especially old bitter cunts like herself spend all day thinking about their death. The world as "suddenly" changed and everything even stepping outside the door is dangerous. "The world is going to hell in a hand basket" in their minds. Of course every generation who reaches that age thinks that.

They invaded my city back during the pandemic. We have the bright orange bikes and scooters and they really are a nuisance. I believe they were really intended for the college population in my city (we have 4 colleges within a couple of miles of each other) but now just about all Zoomers have taken over for food deliveries, etc. They leave them everywhere - all over sidewalks, at the end of people's driveways (and they're impossible to move physically once they're lying at the end of your driveway), scattered through parking lots. Many riders have crossed city boundary lines and they are now in areas where they can't be tracked. It's really gotten out of hand.

R27 people here throw them into the sea, or off cliffs. Try it sometime, its extremely satisfying! Good workout too. And the more rental scooters that are destroyed the less profit the rental companies make, its a good way of wrecking their business model.

R30 In the beginning, there were gangs from the 'hoods who were throwing these into the river in our city. Then the company pulled the original fleet of bikes and scooters and replaced them with these things which are pretty much impossible to move unless you 'rent' one. They're awful.

She’s a Trumper. True story. So I’d she’s complaining that civility is gone, perhaps she shouldn’t be supportive if deliberately cruel cunts.
But, she’s also the same woman who caljed Charlotte Rae a cow and then, in the very next breath, said it’s de classe to criticize another performer.
She talks outta both sides of her mouth. And she always has. Joan, as much as we love her bitchy mystique, is actually a festering cunt.

I question whether Joan is spending any amount of time at all walking around London, let alone long enough to be almost run over. I suppose a rider could have zipped between her and the limo door.
I do actually agree with her about unskilled and rude yahoos on bikes and scooters endangering the public, but I don't agree with her racism, Trump support, or even her relevance to be writing wn op-ed for the paper.

Tell the whole story.
Charlotte called Joan a bitch at the premiere of Linda and Joan's show and the interviewer replayed the comment for Joan, who was rightfully annoyed, as she had never met Rae.
Why Charlotte even went to the show was a mystery, as she clearly didn't like Joan.
