How do you feel about Claudette Colbert?

I have mixed feelings. And what was up with her hair? Were there no gay hairstylists back then?

Republican. Conservative.

She’s no Stephen

Not much, OP. Even Loretta Young had more charm, beauty and grace, if a bit less talented.

I wonder if she had done Margo Channing if she’d have a little more of a legacy. Thankfully Bette did and the rest is history.

She was a muff diver

LOVE HER, OP! And her adorable classic little bob which was a chic holdover from the 1920s and she continued to wear until she the day she died.

Right from the start she always starred in A list films opposite the best of Hollywood's leading men. She never did trash films and often starred on Broadway in hit plays in later life.

In 1934 she played an unforgettable Cleopatra for Cecil B. de Mille (fabulously sexy love scenes if you've never seen it), the mother in the first (and far superior) version of Imitation of Life, and won an Oscar for It Happened One Night (still an extremely rare win for a comedic role). Yeah, all in one year. That's range, bitches!

She hit me in the head with a fondue pot.

I like her as an actress.

I don't have any feelings about her, but thanks for asking.

She ranks among my two favorite classic era actresses (along with Barbara Stanwyck).

She was a brilliant light comedienne - among the very best - and also great in more serious roles later in her career.

One exception to her hair is Palm Beach Story. But I suspect her shoulder-length 'do is a fall or whatever they called it back then.

No mention of her famous left side?

by Anonymousreply 12July 18, 2025 11:48 AM

I feel you’re starting too many threads about her, OP.
