Zohran Mamdani? He was in Fiddler on the Roof right?

Jews are notoriously their own worst enemy and I say this as a fellow Jew. Love him or hate him, he’s 100% right. The virtue-signaling the left loves to do will continue to be its undoing. All the professors in my family have preached that progressive bullshit that white people and America are responsible for all the ills of the world to their students. They’re now stunned seeing their students turn on them because they’re *gasp* white. Now they’re living in fear of being Jewish and are being blamed for Israel. I warned them about this 20 years ago, that it was going to come back to bite them in the ass. One of them took me aside and admitted that I was right. They’re not suddenly MAGA either, but they really feel party-less.

Before the professors in your family blame the Democrats for the present anti-semitism encountered now in some pockets of the US, they might take a look at the present policies of Israel toward the Palestinians and ask themselves if they weren't Jewish, and they saw this activity from a neutral position, would they feel that the Israeli response to the horrific Hamas invasion and slaughter of Oct. 7 has been proportional and just in Gaza, or has it been excessive and inhumane?
Jews have historically been on the side of championing human rights for all people, especially in the US and especially with the support of and at the behest of the Democratic party. It's very unfair to target US Jews because of the actions of Israel, but it's very hard for many non-Jews to separate the two in their minds. I'm sure that for many American Jews, the present situation has been excruciating and has left them torn. They have little power to affect the policies of Israel from afar, and, just as Democrats feel hopeless to ameliorate the damage being done to US relations around the world by Trump and his minions, so they must feel hopeless.

I'm sick of hearing about October 7th. Gazans have been living October 7th everyday for 80 years. Cuomo needs that smug face punched. Having a meltdown on TV cause his brother lost lol.

Maybe because Trump and his MAGAs do actually hate gays, but Zohran doesn’t hate Jews, but instead criticizes Israel’s horrific behavior?

Chris is still butthurt that his craggy-faced older brother lost his primary to a likable Democratic Socialist, despite all the pandering Andrew did to APAC.

Well that works both ways. The two Jewish ladies I know one in Beverly Hills, the other up near San Francisco both voted for Trump, both see Israel as their homeland, one even said she is a single issue voter just on that topic. Both born in American, BOTH HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN TO ISRAEL.

R17 this is not a chicken vs. egg discussion. I know several Jewish people just like your two ladies in Beverly Hills. They were not Trumpers at all. Then Oct. 7 happened, but instead of Hamas's actions being outright reviled by Americans, they saw people waving Palestinian flags and cheering saying this had been a long time coming. As this erupted onto college campuses and jewish students were being attacked while the universities themselves remained silent, a ground swell began to happen in the American Jewish community. Then Trump came a long and told them exactly what they wanted to hear - that he would be taking a hardline against all protests and antisemitic actions. And we are where we are now. I called this out way back in October here on DL and was laughed off a thread because I said that Kamala needed to offer Jewish Americans some consideration. I was told Jews would never vote republican.
You can watch this happen in real time on Michael Rapaport's timeline. He absolutely hated Trump since 2017. He was very outspoken against everything he did - right up to Oct 7th. Then you get the "I can't believe I am going to say this.." post saying voting for Cheeto, as he called him, isn't off the table. I don't know what he is saying now because I stopped following him when all of his posts were about Israel.
So it was a very slow burn. It was completely avoidable IF people could have separated American Jews from Israel. But they couldn't and they began attacking and yelling at them in the streets.

He may be many kooky things, but he gives no sign of being a religious maniac.
As opposed to Eric Adams, who eats all of his meals in smoothie form and claims it gives him sexual powers. I don't know what the fuck he believes.

I just can't believe the people who support Zohran actually believe he will be able to delivery on any of his promises. It reminds me when I was a kid and I would believe whatever a politician said he would do would get done. And then it's a big flop. That is not to say he DOESN'T want to do those things or that he is lying. It just means there is absolutely no way in hell in a city like NYC he would be able to accomplish any of them. Best he'll be able to do as far as grocery stores is a public garden initiative to promote growing your own food.

R18, stop equating anti Israel protests with anti Jewish protests. Israel as been terrorizing Palestinians for decades but the whole world must mourn on the rare occasion that they get their own medicine? give me a break.

Israel has long been the cause the right wing radicalization of Jews. it didn't start on October 7th. Roseanne Barrs not the only one
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 17, 2025 8:35 PM |
r21 it doesn't matter. you push the overton window to the left until it does become realistic. whether that's now or at a future time. there's no reason to assume zohran or any particular democratic socialist politician can't or won't compromise. you don't get more leverage in negotiations by being so submissive, meekly beginning governance with the premise that we're ready to accept republican changes. you have to push the political system leftward over a long period of time. if zohran has a clue, he's already well aware that compromises will be necessary and that this is a beginning step in a broader political project.

R4 I am in agreement with you.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 17, 2025 8:58 PM |
r24, I think you're on to something. Our entire politics has been pushed steadily rightward since the time of Reagan. Ideas that were unthinkable except for fringe groups such as the John Birch Society have become mainstream. But those ideas are not widely popular - they have been driven by the relentless drumbeat of the right wing and their media support system. Clinton and some other Democratic politicians attempted to triangulate and capture right leaning independents by coopting rightwing ideas, such as putting strict conditions on welfare and so-forth. But I think that was probably a mistake, because, again, it turned the whole political conversation rightward and gave currency to bad right-wing ideas.
I'm ok with politicians who are openly and aggressively to the left of the mainstream Democratic party. We need their energy to try to pull the entire party leftward. It would be nice to have a Democratic party that is slightly left of center, instead of right of center.

I agree with Chris Cuomo. Why would any Jewish person vote for Mamdani is beyond comprehension. Or anyone, but there are a lot of stupid young people in America and the West these days, so nothing surprises me.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 17, 2025 9:07 PM |
R24, you don't get a push to the left when you push for what he pushing for, you get a dud and a massive backlash. The main thing people want in NYC (and I know this from years of living there) is to feel safe. You could have $300 rents, but if people feel threatened, the quality of life is for shit. People will work themselves to the bone, if they have to to live somewhere safe. He is promising unicorns and rainbows. There is no compromise to that, only empty promises and disappointment.

by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 18, 2025 2:39 AM |
R19, sorry, most Jewish people did not vote for Trump in 2024. Rapaport is an idiot and hardly represents all Jews. Screaming about "Jewish students being attacked" on college campuses but not the guys saying "Jews will not replace us" or praising Adolf Hitler
There are a hell of lot more Jews on college campuses than in right-wing circles. Gee, I wonder why that is? 🤔 why would Jews side with a bunch of Bible bangers who only support Israel because they think Jesus will return to the Holy Land. They push Christian nationalism and don't believe in the separation of church and state
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 18, 2025 2:43 AM |

I don't think it's a Christian only thing about who killed Jesus. Pretty much historical fact if you believe in religion of any kind at all. That's why people who dont want to own that fact will try and twist it into saying they don't believe Jesus existed at all. Like OJ looking for the real killer.
