I have not watched trailer yet- But this is one of 10 films next year that SOUND so good to me-- The Spike Lee /Denzel film sounds epic, as 3-4 others- There was some article at Goldderby about early Oscar possibilities and I looked all of them up- they sound fanastic. I will try to link later.

2 of them both have that chick from The Bear in them - This is one of them-

by Anonymousreply 1July 16, 2025 8:58 PM

After Tab Hunter?

by Anonymousreply 2July 16, 2025 8:59 PM

The music by Trent Reznor sounds fantastic

by Anonymousreply 3July 18, 2025 7:13 PM

A Roberts film thread with a marvelous "Oh dear" grammar slip up. DL catnip.

by Anonymousreply 4July 18, 2025 7:24 PM

I can't tell what is actually going on in that trailer. I am not looking forward to seeing Julia Roberts all over the place during award season. Yuck.

by Anonymousreply 5July 18, 2025 7:47 PM

I am sorry but that trailer was EPIC. Cannot wait for this one. It was giving TAR/Promising Young Woman vibes.

That being said, I am not seeing one moment in that trailer getting Julia a nomination- like not even close.

by Anonymousreply 6July 19, 2025 1:19 AM

I think it looks great but I cannot stand her. Did anyone notice she did the maniacal laugh like she does when Richard Gere slams the jewelry box in Pretty Woman? I only remember the original scene because of the film The Sweetest Thing making fun of it.

by Anonymousreply 7July 19, 2025 1:22 AM

A true movie star doing awards season is just what Hollywood needs right now. The movie looks good.

by Anonymousreply 8July 19, 2025 6:24 AM

I worked on a film, as production, with Julia years ago ...she's fucking awesome, but not to everyone... I saw her admonish a whole group of fraus, who were pushing through little kids to get to her. She stopped and looked at these Women and said "What are you doing, pushing kids to get my autograph?" and then refused to sign the Fraus DVD's. Hahah...from then on she was known in the town we shot as "A Bitch" . But, I actually saw her sign a Hook DVD for this lil girl who came up to her. This new movie looks great and the best role she's gad in awhile. Plus, her and Chloe Sevigny in scenes together is cool.

by Anonymousreply 9July 19, 2025 11:48 AM

Some of you SOUND like EPICALLY hyperbolic about how like GREAT this movie looks based on a SHITTY trailer. Well at least theres Sevigny.

by Anonymousreply 10July 19, 2025 12:18 PM

Her scenes in the trailer with Sevigny do look cool. It's two different film world styles and looked very authentic. A case where a quirkier acting type helps the more traditional "movie" style look more grounded in reality.

by Anonymousreply 11July 19, 2025 9:51 PM

Maybe the movie will be good and maybe it won't but it's certainly out of date. The entire idea that a college would come screeching to a halt in the wake of a black woman's rape accusation is laughably out of style. Trump runs academia now - ask Harvard and Yale and Columbia who calls the shots.

by Anonymousreply 12July 19, 2025 10:38 PM

I own a little shop in San Francisco. An older customer told me she talked to her at a shop in Pac Heights and said she was nice as could be. Maybe she's chilled out in her old age. I drive by her old house in Presidio Heights and if I had the money, I'd NEVER leave that area. It's like a movie it's so beautiful. Heard she quietly bought a spot in Pacific Heights after she sold it. Not that Pac Heights is the 'hood or anything...

by Anonymousreply 13July 19, 2025 10:43 PM

Step away from the whiskey, OP.

by Anonymousreply 14July 19, 2025 10:45 PM

R12 if you've read the script it's not what you think. It's not at all black girl raped

by Anonymousreply 15July 20, 2025 2:32 AM

why would we have read this script. and why dont you just tell us what intrigue is. no spoilers.

by Anonymousreply 16July 20, 2025 2:34 AM

Julia Roberts is described in the script as being in her '40s. Sure, Jan!

by Anonymousreply 17July 20, 2025 2:41 AM

The script had a lot of traction which is why it was all over the place. Jodie Foster, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock all wanted to play it. B rain Grazer wanted Julia,

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2025 2:46 AM

Tbe or not Tbe...

by Anonymousreply 19July 20, 2025 2:54 AM

The camera really likes Julia.

by Anonymousreply 20July 20, 2025 3:00 AM

Big game hunting intrigue on the African Savannah with the Tbe tribe?

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2025 3:01 AM

R7 makes a great point about the hyena laugh; she should have retired that after Pretty Woman or at least only "use it" for comedies.

This looks a touch "woke" but I will definitely watch it. Julia, like Winona, has an onscreen presence I almost always enjoy--warts and all.

by Anonymousreply 22July 20, 2025 3:01 AM

I'm sure she will be nominated but the girl from Sentimental Value is going to be the Mikey Madison of this year. Unless there's a real embrace that Julia needs the second Oscar which stars at her level often have gotten.

by Anonymousreply 23July 20, 2025 3:02 AM

Seems like a movie to watch with your elderly siblings, at home, after a take out chinese meal.

by Anonymousreply 24July 20, 2025 3:03 AM

Every studio almost demands that stupid laugh in any movie she is in because they think it's how the public identifies with her. I think it's ridiculous too. Her best performances after PW are when she stops it. Like Closer and AOC.

by Anonymousreply 25July 20, 2025 3:06 AM

True, R25. I gained a new-found respect for her acting in August: Osage County.

by Anonymousreply 26July 20, 2025 3:10 AM

I love Michael Stuhlbarg as her husband is such good casting. Like Sevigney it brings down the movie star presence.

by Anonymousreply 27July 20, 2025 3:12 AM

Are you fucking kidding me? She looks so bad I'd mistake her for a lizard person. She is not aging well at all.

I doubt if I'll watch it. Unless the plot has some wild surprises I couldn't have predicted, [bold]Oleanna[/bold] did it first -- and better. And that's another one of those movies that haunts me to this day.

by Anonymousreply 28July 20, 2025 3:20 AM

R20 that's just something you can't buy or teach. I can't tell whether she just knows how to do it or if it's just the camera loving her. PJ Hogan said as much the first day of shooting MBFW. Said once the camera is on there's nothing you have to do. She just rolls.

by Anonymousreply 29July 20, 2025 3:20 AM

Don't most people like her? I don't think anyone would hate her getting a second Oscar especially because she's a beloved Hollywood star even MAGAs love.

by Anonymousreply 30July 20, 2025 3:24 AM

R27 - I had to look him up just now (after seeing the trailer) because I could not place him but still felt oddly "connected" to him. Then I saw he was the father in CMBYN!

That monologue he gives to Elio toward the end of the film had me BAWLING (in the best way). He just did it so beautifully and played the role of the kind of father all gay/bi? boys wish they'd grown up with...esp in the 80s!

by Anonymousreply 31July 20, 2025 3:24 AM

That monologue tore me up. It's like what every sad gay boy needed to hear from their dad when they were still terrified

by Anonymousreply 32July 20, 2025 3:27 AM

Why did Chloe feel the need to go brunette for this? And why did Julia feel the need to go blond?

by Anonymousreply 33August 28, 2025 7:40 PM

R13 you sure don’t write like someone in the City. Your descriptions of Pac Heights sound like third-rate fan fiction.

by Anonymousreply 34August 28, 2025 7:47 PM

I imagine if they decided to have Julia go blonde they didn't want two blondes and had Chloe go brown.

by Anonymousreply 35August 28, 2025 8:16 PM

Can’t wait to see this!

I stan Ayo Edebiri. She was soooo good in Opus!

by Anonymousreply 36August 28, 2025 8:20 PM

She's a raging cunt!!

No Oscar for you.

by Anonymousreply 37August 28, 2025 8:52 PM

Would like to see her win a second Oscar. She is a true movie star.

by Anonymousreply 38August 29, 2025 1:43 AM

I think I may have told this story on DL a few years ago, but let me do it again. My partner and I shared an elevator with her at a NYC hotel some 10 years ago. At first, I didn't even notice it was her since there were a couple of burly bodyguards working hard to block our view of her. One of them was getting ready to probably ask us to leave the elevator when she told him to step back and leave us alone. When we were leaving the elevator she even said bye. In comparison, the previous day, John Benjamin Hickey, a genuine C-lister, who was also staying there, couldn't have been more of an asshole and acting like a true diva.

I was actually surprised how short Julia is in real life; I had always thought she was taller, based on what I saw in the movies.

In the trailer at 0:48 she does her signature hysteric laugh.

She’s too Julia Roberts for her own acting good, and will not be collecting any further Oscars.

The black student gives her a gift in a snap case and Julia falls for it again.

The consensus seems to be that the film is a chore to get through but that Julia is better than ever. Her star power should be enough to at least get a nomination but oh boy...

by Anonymousreply 53August 29, 2025 6:05 PM

Jennifer Aniston didn't become a movie star, she is and was a tv star who has been in movies.

by Anonymousreply 54August 29, 2025 6:39 PM

R54 you’re an idiot. She is both a tv and movie star. Friends ended in 2004 and The Morning show didn’t premiere until 2020. During that time she STARRED in a string of blockbuster comedies.

by Anonymousreply 55August 29, 2025 8:50 PM

The back lighting and blonde hair, it's giving Cybill in Moonlighting vibes.

by Anonymousreply 56August 29, 2025 8:59 PM

Oh my stars!🤩 Blinded by Jen’s light!

by Anonymousreply 57August 29, 2025 9:02 PM

Yeah. Aniston isn’t a movie star, however, she’s great on television and has done some awesome comedies. The woman has had a fantastic career, no question.

Movies stars are people like Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise & Tom Hanks.

by Anonymousreply 58August 29, 2025 9:23 PM

Bruce Almighty, Along Came Polly, The Breakup, He’s just not that into you, Horrible Bosses, We’re the Millers

Wildly successful comedies that grossed over 100 mil. And all of those films she was the female lead and with “Were The Millers” she got top billing. Aniston hasn’t been on”tv” since 2004. You tedious cunts are always trying to argue a point in which you’re clearly wrong.

by Anonymousreply 59August 29, 2025 10:43 PM

If she weren’t a movie star she wouldn’t demand 10 mil a film. Non movie stars don’t have “quotas” and set standard of payment before the box office you big dummies.

by Anonymousreply 60August 29, 2025 10:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 61August 29, 2025 11:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 62August 29, 2025 11:06 PM
Bruce Almighty, Along Came Polly, The Breakup, He’s just not that into you, Horrible Bosses, We’re the Millers

Those movies either had A list costars, or she was part of an ensemble cast.

She has never carried a movie on her own name a la Julia or Sandra.

by Anonymousreply 63August 29, 2025 11:10 PM

R63 I never said she was a s big as them, that’s were you’re mistaken. The bitch is a movie star. She’s the only Friends cast member to become one. She even starred in like 2 Oscars bait films in which she was considered for nominations. She is a movie star all day long. She is also a tv star. It’s rare but she is one of those people. I don’t get how this is a debate. Hell, I would also say Jon Hamm is a movie star.

by Anonymousreply 64August 29, 2025 11:15 PM

R58, I genuinely like Aniston, but I’m sorry… she’s NOT a movie star!

Movie stars are no longer a “thing”, however, they once were, & traditionally, Aniston was never considered a movie star.

Her ex, Brad Pitt was once a movie star, and still is, (sort of) however, she was NOT.

You have to be nominated to possibly win an Oscar, or actually win one, to be considered a movie star, or you have to be Tom Cruise, who should have won an Oscar LONG ago for his acting abilities alone, yet inexplicably, hasn’t.

That’s all there is to it.

She’s beautiful, popular, & beloved by all frauen, but she’s not a movie star.

What’s wrong with that?

She’s made WAAAY more money than MANY movie stars!

by Anonymousreply 65August 29, 2025 11:17 PM

From 1997 to 2011 Jennifer Aniston made 75 million dollars from films alone. You cunts are incredulous. That is a movie star. I ain’t say the bitch was the biggest movie star of all time. She not even bigger than Halle Berry but her movies gross more.

by Anonymousreply 66August 29, 2025 11:19 PM

Ooops!

My post was meant for R59, not for myself.

Apologies!

by Anonymousreply 67August 29, 2025 11:19 PM

Jennifer Aniston is a tv star. Case closed.

by Anonymousreply 68August 29, 2025 11:23 PM

I think movie stars are people who you go and pay to watch at a movie theatre because they’re just SOOOO FUCKING AMAZING, you just know they’ll deliver, no matter what, or because they’re so fucking AWESOME, no matter what they act in, that even if they phone it in, they’re THAT GOOD.

Leonardo Di Caprio is an excellent example, of what I reference.

C’mon, now!

You bitches are gonna tell me Aniston is on that level?

She’s not.

Julia Roberts is one of the ONLY women who currently come close.

by Anonymousreply 69August 29, 2025 11:25 PM

FYI, just wanna add that as annoying as she may be?

Reese Witherspoon is a fucking movie star.

AGAIN, you watch a film because you wanna see them. THAT IS A MOVIE STAR.

by Anonymousreply 70August 29, 2025 11:30 PM

R68 That’s your fkin opinion. Most people would call her a movie star. If Jennifer Aniston never did Friends. Hell let’s just say Friends never existed, and she had the same filmography from Picture Perfect to present she would be considered a soft A list movie star. How is that wrong? Yall are letting the astronomical success of Friends make you dumb.

Hell I met some newly adult Gen Zers that like her comedies that didn’t even realize that was the same mafuckin person.

by Anonymousreply 71August 29, 2025 11:32 PM
Jennifer Aniston didn't become a movie star, she is and was a tv star who has been in movies.

Aniston was never a movie star like Sarah Jessica Parker was back in her heyday. SJP rivaled Roberts and Bullock at one time.

by Anonymousreply 72August 29, 2025 11:34 PM

R72 Never. Never. Jennifer Aniston is a bigger movie star than SJP.

by Anonymousreply 73August 29, 2025 11:35 PM
SJP rivaled Roberts and Bullock at one time.

This never happened. Ever. On any Earth in any timeline.

Fuck off, Sarah. Gaslighting, mendacious cunt.

by Anonymousreply 74August 29, 2025 11:38 PM

A low key movie star is Matt McCaunaghey Spelling might be incorrect, sorry!

I’ll watch whatever he’s in, because the fucker delivers!

Fuck, I just finished watching all of the John Wick films. Keanu BARELY speaks, however, the man is a movie star, because we wanna watch him!

Why?

Because somehow, we love the guy & support him, & because he starred in some of THE MOST ICONIC films of our lifetime!

There’s an example of a REAL movie star who might not be that traditionally talented as an actor, but can carry of fucking series, just because he’s got “IT”.

You guys have no fucking idea what makes a fucking movie star.

Aniston is widely beloved, however, she’s not a movie star.

Either you have huevos like Pacino or DeNiro to become a movie star? Or you have the “it” factor, that translates across all themes and platforms.

by Anonymousreply 75August 29, 2025 11:40 PM

How high are you, R72?

Sarah Jessica Parker never led a single film that made more than $100 million.

Julia and Sandra were the headliners in several. Each. They are A-listers. Sarah Jessica Parker was never anywhere near their orbit and isn’t fit to wash their bras.

She’s not even a TV star anymore and she was never a movie star. She’s a laughing stock.

Your post is a fucking bigger joke than “And Just Like That.” Only even less funny. If that’s possible.

Put down the Smirnoff, lady. And don’t get behind the wheel.

by Anonymousreply 76August 29, 2025 11:51 PM

R76, I think SJP could have had an AMAZING comedy/film career, had she steered away from playing Carrie.

She can be VERY funny, but that’s all gone now, as we will never view her as anyone other than Carrie Bradshaw.

No hate!

She made her money & I firmly believe she made the correct choice, however, she’s now pigeon-holed, & there’s no coming out of that, unless she can somehow hit it out of the park on Broadway, which I doubt is possible.

by Anonymousreply 77August 30, 2025 12:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 79August 30, 2025 12:34 AM
The only one who rivaled Julia and Sandra in the 90's was Sharon Stone. Let's make that perfectly clear!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

by Anonymousreply 80August 30, 2025 2:28 AM

Oh you sweet things. No Jennifer TV Manniston is not, has never been and will never be a movie star. Same for Sharon Stone which is just laughable. The woman had one hit movie with a bigger star and had to show her pussy to be in it. R80 is correct. Meg Ryan is a female movie star adjacent. But she always required an equally or more famous male star to sell. She couldn't do it on her own. She was not in the Roberts or even Bullock league.

by Anonymousreply 81August 30, 2025 3:42 AM

The reviews for Roberts have been mostly respectful but there ain’t no way she’s getting an Oscar nomination now. The film got absolutely roasted by the critics who pretty much all say she ends up being defeated by the weakness of the script,. She’ll probably get a Golden Globe nom simply because she’s Julia Roberts and the way the categories for Best Actress are split up between Drama and Musical or Comedy.

by Anonymousreply 82August 30, 2025 3:56 AM

You are basing this on 20 reviews? All of which have intimated she is awards caliber. Most critics and audiences haven't even seen the movie yet. Relax Glenn.

by Anonymousreply 83August 30, 2025 4:04 AM

Also the movie is intended to be divisive. It's clear there's a good chance the girl is lying in the film and no one knows how to approach the possibilty because of the culture.

by Anonymousreply 84August 30, 2025 4:08 AM

Bruce Almighty (46), Along Came Polly (44), The Breakup (46) , He’s just not that into you((47), Horrible Bosses(57), We’re the Millers (44)

R59 never saw any of them nor did I see Marley and Me(53), The Switch(52) . . . terrible films based on their Metascores ( ) and the audience ratings are scarcely better.

Never a movie star and never appeared in a good film.

by Anonymousreply 85August 30, 2025 4:09 AM

SJP is a much bigger star than Sharon Stone and Meg Ryan. Both of them would kill to have SJP’s success over the past 30 years.

SJP Is bigger than Sandra Bullock today, who only does the occasional Netflix movie now.

by Anonymousreply 86August 30, 2025 4:23 AM

I could see Julia getting an Oscar nomination simply because there are no stars anymore. Same with Emma Stone, who also got good reviews.

The "Jennifer Aniston is a movie star" stan is very amusing. This woman's whole claim to fame is as a star of the series "Friends," and to a lesser extent, the series, "The Morning Show." Netflix pays her a lot for streaming films with Adam Sandler but they would never put those in theatres. She's TV only, and cannot carry a film like a Julia, Sandra or Meryl.

by Anonymousreply 87August 30, 2025 4:39 AM
SJP is a much bigger star than Sharon Stone and Meg Ryan. Both of them would kill to have SJP’s success over the past 30 years.

You must be scoring the best shit in town to be this out of your mind. Or you’re that hideous SJP.

Both Sharon Stone and Meg Ryan were movie stars, the former with an Oscar nomination. SJP is a witch-faced hag from cable television who just fell on her hatchet face trying the revive a 30-year-old relic of a show and no one cared. She’s beyond over. And she was never a movie star. Not even for a weekend.
SJP Is bigger than Sandra Bullock today, who only does the occasional Netflix movie now.

Sandra Bullock is still A-list at 60 and can work whenever she feels like it. SJP can’t even carry a streaming show based on old, successful IP. She even played second fiddle in a sad “Hocus Pocus” sequel that went straight to Disney +. That’s not A-list, darling. That’s embarrassing.

Your troll obsession with a vile actress whom Maxim once named the “unsexiest” woman in show business is both laughable and bizarre.

R83, fuck off.

The reviews for this pretty much all say After the Hunt is horrendous and Julia Roberts will not be able to avoid being a casualty of the downright hatred for the film.

Hamnet and Jessie Buckley got a rapturous response last night at Telluride. She’s now looking certain for a Best Actress slot.

by Anonymousreply 93August 30, 2025 1:29 PM

God, that horrendous laugh. She just can't help herself, can she? Julia may indeed be great in the film, but the preview gives me no indication that among that cast, she has the ability to shine.

by Anonymousreply 94August 30, 2025 2:33 PM

Poor Julia is dropping like a rock in the GoldDerby odds. She might be able to eke out a nomination through her star power but it won’t be easy. The film will not be in best picture or screenplay and will most likely bomb at the box office.

by Anonymousreply 101August 30, 2025 6:21 PM

This is hideous to contemplate but I’m afraid one of the “controversies” stemming from this film will be assholes actually questioning who’d want to rape someone who looks like Ayo Edebiri. That more than the fact the character is a lesbian. I think Guadagnino cast her for a subconscious reason over a “conventionally attractive” Black woman.

by Anonymousreply 102August 30, 2025 6:24 PM

It looks like After the Hunt and Frankenstein are both duds. How humiliating for the actors to go through all the press and red carpets knowing that their films are going to bomb.

by Anonymousreply 103August 30, 2025 6:44 PM

Jay Kelly is also looking DOA.

by Anonymousreply 104August 30, 2025 7:28 PM

R103, the only reviews I’ve read for Frankenstein so far are quite good.

Although it’s looking more and more like Netflix will put its support behind A House of Dynamite over Frankenstein and even Jay Kelly this awards season.

by Anonymousreply 105August 30, 2025 8:51 PM

"will be assholes actually questioning who’d want to rape someone who looks like Ayo Edebiri. That more than the fact the character is a lesbian. I think Guadagnino cast her for a subconscious reason over a “conventionally attractive” Black woman." Honestly, I think she is quite conventionally attractive: slim, great smile, ample-enough rack. It's not like Guadagnino cast some Lizzo or Blue Ivy-looking actress.

by Anonymousreply 106August 30, 2025 9:30 PM

I'm still reeling at the casting of Andrew Garfield as a college professor.

by Anonymousreply 107August 30, 2025 9:33 PM

And he’s the rapist, too, ya know.

by Anonymousreply 108August 30, 2025 9:38 PM

The only actor who looks at home here is Chloë Sevigny as Kim, the resident Yale Philosophy Department psychotherapist, who struts through the movie in a series of baggy suits and a curly bowl haircut that wouldn’t be out of place on the Beverly Hillbillies’ Miss Jane Hathaway.

Roberts, usually a vibrant presence at the very least, looks trapped and perpetually pained: one minute she’s clutching her stomach, the next she’s furrowing her brow as she struggles to figure out the motivations of those around her. This is what you’d call a serious role, but it’s not a challenging or meaty one. Why cast Julia Roberts only to sap all the life out of her?

by Anonymousreply 110August 30, 2025 9:53 PM

Julia is going to be ignored like Angelina Jolie was for Maria.

by Anonymousreply 111August 30, 2025 9:57 PM

I don't understand the link to Tar when the Blanchett character was a predator however brilliant. This character is calculated in not taking a position despite herself but not a predator.

by Anonymousreply 112August 31, 2025 5:32 AM

I think the links are academia and #MeToo.

by Anonymousreply 113August 31, 2025 11:44 AM

Exactly. How is that not obvious?

At the Friday news conference, one female journalist even asked Roberts whether releasing the film could be regarded as a setback for feminism.

The Oscar-winning star leveled her gaze on the woman. “I realize we’re here on a clock,” she said, “but when you say ‘undermines the feminist movement,’ can you give me just a little morsel of in what way do you see that?”

The journalist explained that after the press screening, she and her colleague debated whether the film might revive old arguments about whether women’s accusations of sexual assault should be believed.

“Not to be disagreeable, because it’s not in my nature,” cracked Roberts, “but I would say the thing you just said that I love is that it revives old arguments.”

“There’s a lot of old arguments that get rejuvenated in this movie,” and “that does create conversation,” she continued. “The best part of your question is how you all came out of the theater talking about it. That’s how we want it to feel.”

by Anonymousreply 119August 31, 2025 10:16 PM

In other words, Julia doesn’t have a good answer as to why the film revives old tropes.

by Anonymousreply 120August 31, 2025 11:39 PM

Julia is giving me Veronica Lake vibes as a blonde!

by Anonymousreply 121September 1, 2025 12:23 AM

And Chloe Sevigny is giving me Moe Howard vibes in that bowl cut!!

by Anonymousreply 122September 1, 2025 12:25 AM

Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman and Goop are MOVIE STARS. Anniston is a tv star.

by Anonymousreply 123September 1, 2025 12:51 AM

I love that Julia Roberts was unprepared to answer a basic question, and so she cunted off to the interviewer in a way that made the e interviewer seem stupid.

Total A List star move there.

Lauren Bacall would have done the same thing to teach her a lesson!

by Anonymousreply 124September 1, 2025 2:18 AM

Poor Chloe Sevigny. Saddled with two bad wigs for two years straight (the other one was for Feud). Oh wait. She’s a cunt and the hair department are probably sabotaging her. Never mind!

by Anonymousreply 125September 1, 2025 2:47 AM

She will be nominated. This article breaks it down perfectly.

by Anonymousreply 127September 1, 2025 7:28 AM

Roberts being nominated representing the industry couldn't possibly do more good. She's universally beloved. Even MAGA women love her.

by Anonymousreply 128September 1, 2025 7:37 AM

Garry Marshall said he couldn't explain it. Men, women, moms, dads, babies everyone loves Julia Robets.

by Anonymousreply 129September 1, 2025 7:43 AM

Most actors at her level get 2 Oscars. She's due.

by Anonymousreply 130September 1, 2025 7:50 AM

From the early reviews it looks like Jessie Buckley in Hamnet might be the one to beat.

by Anonymousreply 131September 1, 2025 12:24 PM

R115 continued. That wall of photographers that Julia had to face at the Venice premiere looks terrifying. I love the hand gesture she does at the end to say Enough.
Nicole Kidman

Has barely headlined a hit movie on her own during her entire 36-year career, has an endless string of box-office flops and currently appears almost exclusively in nonstop streaming projects.

She is indeed a TV star, not a movie star. And under the risible, narcissistic delusion that she’s 31 years old.

by Anonymousreply 136September 3, 2025 4:21 AM

Julia Roberts - Much to do about nothing.

No Talent

by Anonymousreply 137September 3, 2025 4:23 AM

Julia really needs to ditch the long hair at this point. Go for something shorter.

by Anonymousreply 138September 4, 2025 12:10 AM

So is Tim Allen not a movie star? He’s another one that is both. Some of you are just dumb cunts. It’s sad.

Cunts, everyone!

by Anonymousreply 142September 4, 2025 1:06 AM

Nicole Kidman's hit movies include To Die For, Moulin Rouge, Eyes Wide Shut, The Hours (Oscar!), Malice, The Stepford Wives, Billy Bathgate, Far and Away, Practical Magic, Days of Thunder, Nine, Cold Mountain and Dead Calm.

Myrna Loy never headlined a movie by herself. Was she not a movie star?

by Anonymousreply 143September 4, 2025 1:25 AM

R143 Almost all flops. What a joke.

by Anonymousreply 144September 4, 2025 2:05 AM

Which were the flops, r143.

I'm no fan of Nicole but she did have an impressive resume for a while back then. Even more than Julia, much less Aniston.

by Anonymousreply 145September 4, 2025 12:19 PM
Which were the flops

Almost all of those.

The Stepford Wives, Billy Bathgate, Far and Away: flops.

She can’t carry a film and never could. She’s an ice cold screen presence and audiences do not like her. She’s had nothing but box office failures for more than a decade and it’s remarkable anyone hires her.

by Anonymousreply 146September 4, 2025 2:47 PM

WHET Loren Dean who played the eponymous Billy Bathgate?

by Anonymousreply 147September 4, 2025 5:04 PM

I never liked her. Her mouth is as big as oh-so-happy Cory Booker's!

by Anonymousreply 148September 4, 2025 5:26 PM

SJP's films in the 1990s outgrossed Jennifer Aniston's movies.

R150 = Matthew Broderick.

by Anonymousreply 151September 4, 2025 10:40 PM

R150 yea but they were blockbusters that still flopped for what they costed to make. Meanwhile Aniston pulled in 30 million viewers a week. You hating ass hos will put some respect on Jennifer Aniston’s name. If she wasn’t a movie star then how the fuck do we have a “Let’s be a Jennifer Aniston film” thread with nearly 600 comments. Make it make sense.

by Anonymousreply 152September 4, 2025 10:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 154September 4, 2025 11:25 PM

This bitch was never in anyone's conversation as a Hollywood starlet. Get real.

by Anonymousreply 155September 5, 2025 12:11 AM

The SJP Troll is, indeed, SJP. After her latest career embarrassment she’s trying to convince the public she was once a movie star.

You’re not fooling anyone, Sarah. No one ever paid to see you stink up the silver screen.

by Anonymousreply 156September 5, 2025 12:18 AM

It’s interesting that none of these broads are very good. Cate and Nicole may be talented but so cold. Julia and Sandra are glorified tv actresses. At best.

by Anonymousreply 157September 5, 2025 12:25 AM

Meryl is the best of all time but she was never close to the movie star Julia Roberts was in our lifetime. She knows it too. Remember when August Osage County was first announced it was touted with line "the world's most famous actress and the world's best actress" finally in movie together.

by Anonymousreply 158September 5, 2025 5:26 AM

I’m a big Jennifer Aniston fan, but she is not a movie star. Tv star, definitely. However, she’s every bit an A-list celebrity as movie stars like Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Demi Moore, or Sharon Stone.

by Anonymousreply 159September 5, 2025 9:16 AM

And I remember how they both absolutely fucking sucked in their roles in an absolute botch of a film.

Is Emma Stone, Margot Robbie or Jennifer Lawrence ahead in the 30s demographic? Julia could play their mom.

Julia Roberts, former Oscar winner, former box-office draw, cunt for all eternity.

30s? That’s Nicole Kidman.

by Anonymousreply 163September 5, 2025 12:14 PM

AHEM!!!!

by Anonymousreply 164September 5, 2025 2:03 PM

Oh god, she does the same whooping surprise laugh as in Pretty Woman.

by Anonymousreply 165September 5, 2025 3:31 PM

R124 I'd argue that she didn't make the journalist seem stupid, but rather herself. She may have seemed smart if she were able to include why rehashing old arguments is useful, but based on the info provided that definitely was not the case. All she did was basically say, "oh yeah, well that's what I wanted", which comes across as someone who feels corned giving a knee-jerk, juvenile response.

by Anonymousreply 166September 5, 2025 3:41 PM

R158 I think Meryl became what Julia became in her 60s. During the mid aughts there started to be this Meryl craze, where everything she touched was a box office success as well as critically acclaimed.
