It was mediocre the first time.

Scary Movie was a far better telling of that story.

The only good thing about the original was the young and insanely hot Ryan Phillippe. That was the only reason my friends and I watched it.

by Anonymousreply 2July 16, 2025 4:58 PM

Ryan Phillippe was total eye candy and I liked seeing SMG and FPJ in the cast as well. Very late 90s.

I don't think the movie is as good as Scream or even Urban Legend. I saw it once and barely paid attention. I have zero desire to watch a remake.

I must have been one of ten people on the planet who enjoyed the TV adaptation, despite the first one killed being the native gay guy.

The Hawaii setting was really special and something I almost never see in scripted TV (Inhumans, oy vey!), plus I had the biggest crush on Zeke Goodman.

Who cares what Roger Ebert has to say? He hasn’t been relevant in ages.

by Anonymousreply 5July 16, 2025 6:13 PM

R4, why would you just put out a spoiler like that, asshole. Maybe some of us want to watch.

by Anonymousreply 6July 16, 2025 6:14 PM

Everyone knows spoilers on DL don't apply for anything older than a year, and especially not for stuff that came out almost five years ago, you massive fucking bitch.

by Anonymousreply 7July 16, 2025 6:24 PM

Especially for a shit tv show that nobody watched.

by Anonymousreply 8July 16, 2025 6:26 PM

The trailer looked bad. I have zero interest in seeing it.

by Anonymousreply 9July 16, 2025 6:54 PM

It's going to flop on a level similar to Megan 2.0. The original film was twenty-eight years ago and the decision to release it in the middle of summer as opposed to Halloween is a big mistake.

R5 he’s actually dead. The website is ran by contributors.

As an Academy Award winner and mother of a trans child, I have to disagree with you. This is another summer terror won't be taking a vacation.

by Anonymousreply 12July 16, 2025 7:10 PM

Every fucking movie that Hollywood reboots because it’s run out of ideas seems to suck

by Anonymousreply 13July 16, 2025 7:22 PM

R10 I agree that Halloween would be a better release time probably, but to be fair, it really is a summer movie in every sense of the word (down to the title). The original takes place entirely around the 4th of July. I’m not sure if this one is set exactly on that date or not, but if so, they should’ve aimed for a late June release.

by Anonymousreply 14July 16, 2025 11:04 PM

It should have been a comedy or something and meta parody. The source material is so preposterous, with paper thin characters and little dramatic tension or suspense. It was shot beautifully for a horror flick of its time, but has very little scare. It was entertaining to see the teen stars of the day get stalked by a slasher not knowing if one of them was the slasher but even that element was not dramatic or ironic enough. It made Scream look like Casablanca.

I Know What You’re Not Seeing This Weekend

by Anonymousreply 16July 16, 2025 11:14 PM

There’s not one guy in it who’s half as gorgeous as Ryan. I only watch this movie when I want to bask in his beauty.

It’s too bad many people aren’t aware that the 1997 movie is based on the superior Lois Duncan 1973 novel.

Are they going to resurrect all the dead movie reviewers? Is anybody allowed to die anymore?

by Anonymousreply 19July 17, 2025 4:09 AM

The film looked lifeless and uninspired from the trailers. This remake is totally unnecessary. One of the appeals of the original was its cast had up-and-coming actors. The cast of this one is a who's-who of who cares.

by Anonymousreply 20July 17, 2025 3:19 PM

Good ol' Roger Ebert. Still reviewing movies after being dead for 12 years.

by Anonymousreply 21July 17, 2025 3:22 PM

He's a vampire!
