R2 if I recall that story correctly they were Canadian, perhaps from Saskatchewan but they kept getting misattributed as Americans nearly half the time. Seems Canada can also manage to shit out their own share of right winger idiots too, sometimes.

Now there are two families who moved to Russia. The ones from Saskatchewan are the Feenstras; and the last I read their finances were frozen in Russia.

Then there is the Huffmans who are a Texas family who moved to Russia. The husband signed up for the military where he was assured he could he would be put in a repair position since he had welding experience, but he was put on the frontlines.

America’s mean white people could kill you but they are not omnipresent. You can try to move to a safer area (more Black/diverse, less MAGA) before moving to freakin’ Russia where mean white people could kill you and there’s no safe place anywhere in Russia to move to.

The idea that Russian would be safer does seem ridiculous on its face. She must have stood out, nearly all the immigrants there are from former USSR countries. But beyond the headline she had a reason to be there and spoke Russian.
