The "Old Man Sock and Shoe Test"

I saw this on Kelly and Mark this morning. Only 14% of people over 40 can do this:

Standing on one leg, pick up a sock off the floor and put it on the foot that's raised. Keeping your foot raised, reach down and pick up a shoe off the floor, put it on the same foot, and tie the shoelaces. If you can do this all of this without falling over or losing your balance, you've got excellent balance and are at low risk for injury from a fall as you age. If you fail (like I did), you can continue to practice this to help your balance.

Try it, gurlz! Did you succeed?

I bet Kelly can do it - the whole reason for this segment 🤢

by Anonymousreply 1July 15, 2025 7:23 PM

Damn, I can't even pick my sock up.

by Anonymousreply 2July 15, 2025 7:25 PM

R1 Both Kelly and Mark were able to do it.

by Anonymousreply 3July 15, 2025 7:31 PM

I was able to get the sock and shoe on, but I lost my balance when I tried to tie the shoe.

So a made up test with no relevance? Why not require use of the opposite hand? Or on Sunday mornings? It’s all bs

by Anonymousreply 5July 15, 2025 7:35 PM

Sounds like something to request from a Nigerian prince who needs financial help to get his millions.

by Anonymousreply 6July 15, 2025 7:35 PM

I couldn't if I bent my rotten knees. But I could if kept my leg and back straight and used my long arms- like a crane.

by Anonymousreply 7July 15, 2025 7:36 PM

Just had a major abdominal hernia fixed last month, so I could seriously injure myself if I tried this. I'll give it a go when it heals fully. I'm not yet 40, so I think I could pull it off.

by Anonymousreply 8July 15, 2025 7:37 PM

Yes, R5, tests are made up...from data and facts and statistics.

I’m in no mood to fall and break something!

by Anonymousreply 10July 15, 2025 7:41 PM

What percentage of people can do it before 40?

by Anonymousreply 11July 15, 2025 7:59 PM

Gurl NO! I'm trying to stay OUT of assisted living, I can just imagine the broken hip and presenting at the emergency room!

by Anonymousreply 12July 15, 2025 8:16 PM

So made up by some Instahoe. Got it

by Anonymousreply 13July 15, 2025 8:50 PM

Aced it!

by Anonymousreply 14July 15, 2025 10:18 PM

I just broke a hip. Thanks a lot OP.

by Anonymousreply 15July 15, 2025 10:20 PM

I can't even stand on one foot for the requisite 20 seconds.

Then again, I've had vertigo since motorcycle accident #1 -- so I already know I have balance issues.

I bet it would be fun to watch, though!

by Anonymousreply 16July 15, 2025 11:01 PM

“Kelly and Mark”? The fuck? This bitch made her husband the co-host?

by Anonymousreply 17July 15, 2025 11:06 PM

R17 Uh, yeah...two years ago.

by Anonymousreply 18July 15, 2025 11:13 PM

He has to earn his allowance somehow.

by Anonymousreply 19July 15, 2025 11:17 PM

“Mark, balance this dog biscuit on your nose and we can fill eight minutes!”

by Anonymousreply 20July 15, 2025 11:20 PM

[QUOTE] Uh, yeah...two years ago.

I don’t keep up with daytime TV. I’m at work whenever this crap comes on. Thus I hadn’t realized it became such a family affair.

Does Joaquin make any appearances?

I don't want see an old man's feet let alone his socks. You all is crazy!

by Anonymousreply 22July 16, 2025 12:21 AM

Every time I'm at my parents, this show comes on and I can't believe it exists. Can you imagine having to work with your spouse like that?

by Anonymousreply 23July 16, 2025 12:27 AM

Regis and Kathy Lee were married too, right?

by Anonymousreply 24July 16, 2025 12:29 AM

I can do it and I'm over 40. But, when I'm in the locker room at the baths, I prefer to bend over and present hole as I'm putting on my socks.

by Anonymousreply 25July 16, 2025 12:39 AM

R21 Sometimes, but he's always full clothed.
