Teenager dies after falling into a meat grinder at food processing factory in California
I don't get how this is allowed to happen.
You even hear about people being trapped cleaning in large ovens which are turned on.
Aren't there safety procedures in place so that it would be impossible to happen. Like disconnecting all power from the machine externally so that in no way could be turned on accidentally and having people there keeping guard? I am completely incredulous when I hear about such horror stories.

That’s a horrifying way to go. How does a machine just turn on like that? Jesus.

Some factories actively discourage turning off machinery during cleaning. They claim loss of productivity and extra cleaning regulations.

Also the large baking ovens and furnaces that need to be cleaned and nobody knows anybody is in there. And they can't get out if the door closes.

A bit OT, but we had a girl in my high school we called meat grinder.
She had braces and sucked a lot of cocks.

OP: Thousands of machines, grinders, wood cutters, and ovens get cleaned every single day all over the world. The number of incidents a year is extremely low BECAUSE of the safety measures you long for.

That poor kid. Meat packing plants can be very, very dangerous. I worked in one for two years when I was young.
At my meat packing plant, there were machines that ground the meat. The de-boned meat was first put in a metal tub with wheels on the bottom, and it had a latch that connected it to the grinder. The man (this was one of those higher paying "men's jobs") would hook the latch onto a metal automatic lift that would pick up the tub, dump it in a hopper, and expel the ground meat at the bottom, whereupon the man would catch it in the tub and wheel it away to another machine that would either squirt out hamburgers or sausages.
It would have been difficult to die that way -- you would have to fall into the tub and get lifted up to the top, etc.
OTOH, I guess it would be an ingenious way to commit murder.

He was cleaning it, preparing for its use the next day, so it apparently had no meat in it other than his.

R6 It doesn’t. And unless there was an unusually small person in area where people can be while the machine is active, someone’s got some splainin to do. If some type of maintenance or service inspection check was being done these things have to be energized in a way that no one can turn them back on through flick a switch, even a few switches. They have to be completely electrically de-energized encompassing both computers and usually manual disconnects as well.

I worked in a supermarket deli and sliced open my finger getting some old Grandma her paper thin quarter pound of ham. I just kept going cause she was a nudge. Maybe she got hepatitis lol. "Sonny take your thumb off the scale!" As if I cared how much she was charged and I got the money, shaking my head.
