Chip and Joanna Gaines Stand Up For Gay Couple

True allies or just chasing a revenue stream?

Virtue signal.

They lost the gays when they came out as trumpers..

I wonder if Billy J. Brawner is going to get a show. He and his man just bought a (beautiful) fixer upper in the Berkshires. Now he's an interesting story. Married to a woman, six kids, comes out, he and wife are still besties, moved from Waco(!) to NYC (with the kids an ex-wife), new man and now moving to the Berkshires. Anyway, he and his son were playing basketball with Chip and Joanna the other day, and he used to be (still is?) the photography director for Magnolia. So they're obviously still close.

I love the “Christian” argument that gay couples and families are ruining… families. How? How is gay marriage responsible for straight divorce? Just say you hate gay people and be done with it.

by Anonymousreply 3July 14, 2025 11:07 PM

Sometimes I wanna be done with it, but apparently it’s not a choice. Well darn it!

I don't care what words come out of your mouth - if you attend a church that preaches hate and you vote R and for Trump time and again - I know who you are.

You don't get to cherry-pick and say - oh, but I'm not like that. THAT is what your party stands for - that is what is aligned with your beliefs.

I'm so glad they're not on TV anymore - buying shitting houses for $12,000 in Bumfucke, TX and doing the same treatment time and time again. I never understood their popularity.

Peak suburban Frau shit - farmhouse sink, barn doors, dried flowers, 'rustic antiques' - barf. Pseudo farm style - and women LOVE IT for some reason.

I think they're jumping on the bandwagon too late.

The heyday was 2015-2025.

Henceforth, you will start seeing American society reject LGBT, including gay marriage, which it had gradually accepted between 2004 (when Massachusetts became the first state to legalize it) and 2015 (when the Supreme Court made it legal, federally).

But in the past ten years, the highly unpopular trans/nonbinary ideology erased all the goodwill gays had achieved after decades of hard work.

Since Democrats made no distinction between gays and trans/nonbinaries by creating LGBT, to the general public, they're one and the same.

In short, Americans in general are beginning to view gay marriage as the slippery slope that led to trans/nonbinary.

I don't think homosexuality will be prosecuted or anything, but it will return to a "don't ask, don't tell" type of thing, indefinitely.

Live and let live, but keep it behind closed doors.

And no adoption for gay parents.

I haven't come across those two in a long time. Are they really Trumpers? Not that I would be surprised!

[quote] “We want people to not think of us as right wing or left wing or moderates or versions of those concepts in between, and just look at us as human beings that are looking out for the betterment of other human beings,” Chip said. “And then, obviously, if you literally narrow it down to the political thought, how do we do that in a courageous way that brings us all together as opposed to our current model, which is, how do you do it in this isolating model that forces us all to basically take sides, you know. Oh, you get in your corner, you get in your corner and we meet in the middle to duke it out.”

I always assume "good Christians" do this when they realize one of their kids is/might be gay.

I mean, it's better than the alternative kind of parent, but it's still a bit of a public gaslight.

by Anonymousreply 9July 15, 2025 12:05 AM

R6 you’re wrong. Gays were not ever fully accepted by MANY people, they were just quieter before. There was no goodwill.

by Anonymousreply 10July 15, 2025 2:24 AM

These days more money is made by abandoning the gays.

by Anonymousreply 11July 15, 2025 2:34 AM

Gays need all the support they can get so, whatever

by Anonymousreply 12July 15, 2025 2:36 AM

Attitude here is weird. It's very unexpected for a show under their brand to so heavily feature a gay couple wih kids. (There are only three families on the show.) Given the current environment, it would probably actually be to their financial benefit not to. But they are and good for them.

Bullshit. They were called out often on the fact they never had gay people on their shows when everyone else long has. I heard their network ratings were dipping so it makes sense that now they are featuring one.

And only ONE spot was given to queer representation? Why? Do better.

Not a fan of Chip and Jo - they've both always irked me.

I know they both attended a very anti LGBT church, and when asked about it years ago, when asked about their feelings toward LGBTQ people, they tried to dodge the question and say that they "rooted for everyone."

I will say that I've watched some shows on the Magnolia Network and there have been gays and lesbians on some shows (In With The Old being one example) but they also have very evangelical folks on their shows.

I can somewhat respect what they said in the article at R8 but....I dunno. Something about them has never sat right with me.

It's been my observation that most of these HGTV stars, the evangelical ones, will be kind to LGBTQ people if they know them personally, or perhaps in a business context, but standing up for gay rights would be another thing entirely. This is interesting to hear their support for the couple on their show.....but they do have an investment in it, so......

Between the lines it all seems very "love the sinner hate the sin" doubletalk

by Anonymousreply 19July 15, 2025 3:22 AM

Maybe Chip is bi? Any cock pics?

by Anonymousreply 20July 15, 2025 3:25 AM

R16, are you joking? One out of three isn't representation? get real.

by Anonymousreply 21July 15, 2025 12:14 PM

I used to think Chip was sort of cute in a straight-dad-at-Home-Depot kind of way but the long hair has to go.

by Anonymousreply 22July 15, 2025 6:51 PM

He has long hair? Never mind.

by Anonymousreply 23July 15, 2025 6:53 PM

It's a recent thing over the last year or two. Hope he cuts it.
