Stephen King’s Dreamcatcher (2003)

Dreamcatcher is a 2003 American science fiction horror film based on Stephen King's 2001 novel of the same name. Directed by Lawrence Kasdan and co-written by Kasdan and screenwriter William Goldman, the film stars Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, Damian Lewis, and Timothy Olyphant as four friends who encounter an invasion of parasitic aliens. It also features Morgan Freeman, Tom Sizemore, and Donnie Wahlberg.

I stayed away from this film for years because of the negative reviews; however, the first half of the film is great with buckets of chemistry from Thomas Jane, Timothy Olyphant, Jason Lee, and Damian Lewis. It does fall apart a bit due to CGI of 2003 as well as the length, but it’s a lot better than The Langoliers or Firestarter.

Why the hate? This would make a fantastic series with the right cast and budget. And more homoeroticism. It’s too bad Jason Lee and Timothy Olyphant didn’t have sweaty animalistic man sex in that cabin during a blizzard.

I remember it starting off pretty good and then getting more and more convoluted and ridiculous. That happens a lot with King but this one was especially bad

King was delirious when he wrote this book and it shows. I doubt he remembers even writing it.

It looks awful, but I find all four leads appealing and hot.

I recall feeling repulsed by a toilet scene with Jason Lee. It would be over a decade since I saw it so maybe I should rewatch. I do remember feeling the same as OP, that a lot of sweaty man sex would have been good.

A lot of sweaty man sex is always good

R3 I will say the trailer made it worse than it seems. I avoided it based on the trailer alone.

I like it. I read the book and saw the movie when it was released. It is a lot of crazy ideas. I loved Morgan Freeman being a take no prisoners with the aliens "Son's of bitches". I may watch it again tonight TBH.

I don't think people want a series about aliens that pop out of people's asses.

It’s one of those movies I’ve seen maybe 3 times and still can’t tell you how it ends.

R8 Speak for yourself.

Donnie Wahlberg really stretches his acting skills here (NOT!) playing a mentally retarded person.

Was Dudditz an alien the whole time or just at the end?

They used to play this regularly on TNT and the Sci-fi channel. I wanted to like it but I just couldn't. The characters are too annoying.
