Could retro-heavy Fantastic Four save superhero cinema?

I normally wouldn’t care too much for this film but the production design is just incredible

I love midcentury modern design porn

Completely miscast. Ugly Johnny Storm, total loser Pedro, old woman Sue, chef Thing.

Better casting in the original.

Fuck pascal .

Will not watch anything he is in.

I do like Princess Margaret but not enough to watch.

Superman just opened to $125 million. The genre doesn’t need saving, certainly not by this entry.

I wonder if Fantastic Four will be hurt by following Superman. They were projecting $145 million opening but that may be hard to reach.

I'm glad they're trying something different with these characters. It sucked that they had to build the MCU without one of the pillars of the comics universe, but if they pull this off they will have turned that setback into a great improvement.

I'm also feeling a little doubtful about the casting, though. Johnny seems too young and just off model in general. And they seem to be going in a much different direction with Ben. He seems more like a mellow dude than the cantankerous, cigar-chomping guy from Brooklyn that he's always been. Is this more in line with how he's written in the comics these days? Or has this brand of New Yorker faded away with the fedora and the Automat?

The writing seems like bland dreck and nearly everyone is miscast. The retro art direction and production design is interesting but also seems very corporate Epcott meets Tomorrow Land. I hold out a smidgeon of hope that it might be good but the last two superhero films I was enthused about, Thunderbolts and Superman, were both fairly terrible in my opinion

Everyone is miscast and no one has seen the movie.

SMDH.

It takes place in an alternate universe, where I believe WWII never happened. Tomorrowland meets EPCOT is pretty much what they were looking for.

And it's "EPCOT."

I question their timing. If the reviews or audience scores are low, it’s toast in this busy period.

They also emasculated him from what I hear.

The casting in FF is bad.

In your head, you've already dismissed the movie as a failure before it's opened and you've seen it, R11.

Eejit.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, but I don't disagree about the casting being a little off. Pedro just doesn't have the right vibe for Reed. Vanessa is fine. The other two are... meh.
