Comparing ER and The Pitt

I’m watching The Pitt but never watched ER, because I find network tv to be weak tea.

People tell me ER is just like The Pitt but I just can’t believe it. How could networks have shown that much gore? The language?

Maybe I’m wrong — thoughts?

Indeed, you are wrong, these people have lead you astray. The Pitt is not just like ER. In fact it’s vastly superior.

Wait, how am i wrong? I said it was hard for me to believe that they were the same.

The only similarity between them is that both are iostensibly medical procedurals, but in reality, ER is a drama set in an ER while The Pitt is much more focused on the medical aspects.

I started watching the first episode (and part of the second) of The Pitt and - I'm sorry - but they covered so much of this in The Resident. Same illnesses, same storylines...and that was just on the FIRST EPISODE. Maybe something changes as it progresses, but it seemed like retread territory to me.

I gave it a "meh" and moved on.

I’ve heard from multiple people that “The Resident” is trash.

I like ER much better. I just finished re-watching the first 8 seasons (this series went on forever!); after Mark died, the show went totally downhill so I stopped watching it after Season 8. But frankly, that show is a soap opera. Which is why I like it.

The Pitt is very clinical; we barely found out anything about the characters, and didn't see anything about them outside the hospital.

Gory -- but still boring. I guess I'll watch the next season to see if it improves.

I loved ER and, yes, it had its gory moments but there were some episodes that were really great but it was a tad too soapy at times. The Pitt seems more realistic but there is some of the ER dna in there. I have to watch more episodes tbh, I petered out after the 4th episode.

r5 I'd take The Resident over Gray's Anatomy any day. I watched all the seasons on Netflix, and it was entertaining enough for me.

After I was done with that, I found Animal Kingdom and watched that all the way through as well. I like shows that build relationships and show dynamics between characters.

The Pitt has a lot of similarities to a real world ER, except for the part where a social worker is always available right away. And I’ve never met an ER doc as clinical yet kind as Dr Robby.

Compartmentalization is key in that department.

The Pitt doesn’t feel the pressure to resolve the case stories in a single episode, so the audience gets to know the characters better and the stories can breathe and often have greater impact (such as the fentanyl OD story).

It’s also refreshing to no longer have to build around commercial breaks with the requisite mini cliff hangers. The flow is better in my view.
