Where is the best place to check your fico score?

My credit card websites show it but there is like a 30 point difference between the two cards.

The free scores are only there for entertainment purposes, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you are applying for a loan, the bank's scoring model will be the only one that matters, even if it is wildly different from the ones you have access to.

If you really want to make sure to get the best score possible, get a copy of your credit report from each of the three main bureaus before applying for a loan, review them all, and if there are any errors, dispute them with the bureau.

Then when the bank pulls your credit, ask which bureau they used and make sure any errors that you corrected have been removed.

If all of that sounds like too much work, just believe the higher score of the two that you currently see. :)

I find credit scores fascinating. My score regardless of agency is well into the 800s so I don't worry about it. What I find entertaining is the factors influencing my score. My mortgage is paid off and I have no credit card debt. I didn't have ENOUGH credit. I didn't have a car loan either until very recently when I bought a new car and took out a very small loan compared to the total cost of the car. Now the factor influencing my credit score is that my debt/loan is too new.

If you don't need any credit and have not used credit in decades, it is ironic that you could pay higher rates for your insurances.

OP? My credit union supplies my FICO. It's right there on my internet account page.

Maybe you need to switch to a banking entity that reports it to you.

R1 is it true that banks don’t care about high debt to income ratio if you have a better than decent salary, and excellent pay history. No late payments or collection. Like if you a good salary, I’m not talking rich.

R2 You seem to have very low self esteem.

FICO scores drive me crazy. I understand that they only really matter when you're making a big purchase, but still. One card shows I have a FICO score of 850. My other card shows I have a FICO score of 812. I learned that each card uses a different type of scoring model.

Also, there were times when I wasn't really using credit the score was in the 800ish range. Then I started using more credit and the score went up. It makes no sense to me.

R8 My score differs even more drastically than you. I only trust my bank/credit union’s fico. I think it’s because I have high debt/income and I don’t make a low salary. It throws the percentages off depending how each perspective agency incorporates it in its formula.I’ve never missed a payment nor ever been in collections/default.

I’m just a stupid ass materialist American cunt who must have new things. And a lot of it.

MyFico.com has your real FICO score

R5 Just to be clear, I'm not a loan underwriter but it is safe to say that debt to income ratio is a very important measure used to decide loan approval.

Credit scores are most often used to determine the rate you get if you are approved, but ability to repay based on ratios like debt to income are what really get the loan approved or declined.

Why play this game of Fico scores? Do you also worry about your Reddit karma score? Refuse to be part of the system.

This may have already been mentioned, but there are over 16 different FICO scores. Banks have their own scores, car dealerships have their own scores, utility companies have their own scores. In general scores from Trans Union are often lower than from the other two agencies.

by Anonymousreply 13July 14, 2025 6:00 PM

Interesting r13. Transunion is the one of mine that is lower.

by Anonymousreply 14July 14, 2025 6:59 PM

I have no debt. Credit score page on cc app says lack of recent installment loans is a derogatory factor. FICO 8 score of 794. Other site say FICO 2 of 834. It’s useless info as I never intend to borrow money again.

Credit unions and mortgage companies sometimes provide it monthly. It's free. It's best to check them; it won't affect your FICA score.
