ZIP Code Question
Hope someone who works at USPS has the answer. No luck with the Net, my letter carrier didn't know...
Every address has a nine-digit ZIP, .... 12345-9999. First five are Sectional Center and local post office.. . The "Plus Four" narrows it down to street, building, and floor . Lately noticed two extra digits on the bar code. Anyone know what they designate?

There is no such thing, OP. Sounds like a made up conspiracy theory.
Also, work on your punctuation marks. Gives you away every time.

The +4 is a unique to your specific address. If you live at 123-A Nelliecakes Drive, Drearyville, the zip+4 identifies that and only that apartment.

One Christmas, I sent several cards out with no city and state, just the zip+4 and they were delivered quickly. City and state are already in the numbers so it’s repetitive.

Those of us who are "in the know" have unlisted ZIP codes.

Google is your friend, OP!
Here's a breakdown:
5-digit ZIP code: Identifies a general geographic area and post office.
ZIP+4: Extends the ZIP code to identify specific delivery routes, such as a block, an apartment building, or a floor within a large building.
Delivery Point Code (DPC): The final two digits further refine the address to a specific delivery point, like a house number or a unique PO Box.
Instead of writing out a full return address at times, I'll write my Apt# and nine-digit ZIP code, which should get any returned mail back to me.

USPS readers ignore names of city and state. If you write, Beverly Hills, CA 10014, your mail will arrive in Manhattan's West Village. If you're using correct nine-digits, don't bother with city and state.

r19 Even worse for international postcards, which is what you'd most likely be sending. Currently $1.70 for Forever international stamps. Ouch.
