Barry Williams & Lorna Luft For MDA Telethon (1980)
I'm fascinated by this video. Lorna is obviously coked out, while Barry seems to have downed a fistful of xanax, but they really give it their all. Unfortunately, they are both total charisma vacuums and pairing them together onstage creates a truly uncomfortable viewing experience. I also get the feeling that they were told about this performance about five minutes before being thrown on stage, so I suppose it's not entirely their fault.
Sound off below!

Lorna is serving Nancy Spungeon realness.

Ok, I'm going down a rabbit hole now- apparently Lorna was a regular on this program in the 70s/early 80s. I actually really like this rendition, she has great energy here!

She's not Lainie Kazan. This is Stairway to Stardom quality.

"Liza’s the only talented child of Judy’s"
I can do rimjobs like nobody's business. Ask Michael Feinstein.

Barry sure is full of himself In his book he said after the Brady Bunch ended he refused to audition for roles. He told anyone who asked him to audition to "Just turn on the tv to see what I can do". What a delusional egomaniac. He really thought saying "Mom, can I borrow the car?" was some kind of testament to his talent?🤣

I like how Jerry introduces her as just "Lorna."

The thing is, Jerry knew talent. And he had this parade of d and z-list talents on his telethon and he just powered through, like an old show biz pro. Lucky there was real talent mixed in. And the talent sang live to a band. The Spinners for example blew the Jackson 5 out of the water for live musicality.

Shit like this is why I love DL.
Lorna was clearly under the influence of some kind of chemical substance here.

John Daker would have injected a shot of much-needed charisma, if he were part of the act.

Yes. There's something about enthusiastic, minimally talented performers that warms my heart.
My sister was dating the GM of a luxury hotel in St. Thomas. He comped us to a performance of the current singer in the large showroom, a female going by the name Smitty. The GM, my sister and her two young children and I were the only audience. Cringe, but damn that gal gave it her all. She actually looked like Lorna, and sounded even more desperate. After all 5 of us plus Smitty powered our way through the experience I asked my 5 year old nephew if he had a favorite song. He said 'yes, the last one'. He then, somewhat reluctantly, pointed out what the singer's name rhymed with.
I love this kid.
