Fat whore complains that she couldn't find any British food while on vacation in Greece

She had to eat.....GREEK food. In Greece! The horrors!

low hanging fruit, OP.

Susan, who has ulcerative colitis, said: "On a morning you could have toast, a hard boiled egg, or something in sauce. There was no bacon. For breakfast there was mozzarella and sliced tomatoes. There was no hot bacon or sausage.

For those with ulcerative colitis they should not eat: "Fatty foods: Fried foods, high-fat meats, and rich sauces"

The Brits really love their bacon and sausage, which I find disgusting. I can't imagine eating bacon or sausage every day.

by Anonymousreply 3July 12, 2025 12:26 AM

Some people just should not travel. And that's people from all countries. Just stay home.

by Anonymousreply 4July 12, 2025 12:31 AM

She has ulcerative colitis and complained they had no bacon or sausage? Those are foods she should be avoiding. Make it make sense.

by Anonymousreply 8July 12, 2025 1:28 AM

Made it make even more sense: Susan, who has diabetes, said: "On a morning you could have toast, a hard boiled egg, or something in sauce. There were no donuts. For breakfast there was mozzarella and sliced tomatoes. There were no hot donuts or cake.

by Anonymousreply 9July 12, 2025 1:48 AM

I found the hotel. Looks pretty nice. The pool is fabulous. Ocean views. 8.1 on Booking. Maybe $220 a night for two people, so definitely higher end. 4 stars whatever that means.

Minging old miserable slapper. 8 days, 7 nights, flights, hotel, every fucking meal and drink for £750. Cheap nasty count.

The common as muck British traveller shouldn't be allowed beyond Blackpool. This old bag is one of several who landed in the news because she booked and all-inclusive to Benidorm only to find that Spanish people spoke in Spanish.

Long crazy story but I was given the opportunity to go on a 3 week tour of India with the US based travel company Tauck, taking someone’s cancelled spot. The catch was.. the travelers tended to be insufferably complaint-filled entitled upper middle class Americans of the Boomer generation.

Several of them complained that Indian food was featured in some of the meals, and that it was spicy. They wanted an American menu. I wrote a short piece about these people afterwards, and titled it “Fettuccine Alfredo in Jaipur.”

by Anonymousreply 17July 12, 2025 2:37 AM

R17, I can't think of a worse place for any complaint-filled, upper-middle class anybody to go to than India! That must have been quite the spectacle!

by Anonymousreply 18July 12, 2025 2:48 AM

I hope they serve bacon and sausage at her funeral when she dies of colon cancer

by Anonymousreply 19July 12, 2025 2:55 AM

People would actually choose to eat British food over Greek food? Even when I'm in the UK, I typically go for other "ethnic cuisine" over typical British fare. They have a lot of great Indian and Pakistani restaurants in London. There is no need to suffer with the local cuisine.

There's rather a lot of that in Europe. I've seen worse in this category. The little gym room isn't really the most common amenity.

by Anonymousreply 22July 12, 2025 4:25 AM

This article was like the ones featured on CNN Travel with equally dumb Americans complaining they can't get a Big Mac or what not.

Travel from UK to Greece and to hotel, 8 days/7 nights hotel, 3 meals a day, drinks, pool, poolside entertainment, excursions of some sort probably (though few will take them because...Greek people), and every fucking little thing down to the little bars of soap: £750

It's not luxury

by Anonymousreply 25July 12, 2025 6:32 AM

That headline at R16 is hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 26July 12, 2025 10:22 AM

Awful British Tourists have existed forever. Monty Python has done sketches about women just like this. The there's "A Room With a View."

by Anonymousreply 27July 12, 2025 10:32 AM

To all appearances that hotel was already meeting the insular Brits more than halfway. There's no sign of any distinctly Greek food there. But there's a whole phenomenon of British tourists going to places like Corfu and the rest of the Ionian Islands (formerly a British protectorate) just to get sun, never leaving their "holiday camps," and never eating anything they couldn't get at home. I have British step-relatives who do this; I ask them if they went to the historic sites and whatever and they say no, they just lay out by the hotel pool all day.

by Anonymousreply 28July 12, 2025 11:17 AM

The photo halfway down the page is her and she looks exactly as you’d expect. To be honest, if the weather is very hot, mozzarella and tomatoes for breakfast sounds lovely!

by Anonymousreply 34July 12, 2025 12:48 PM

Bacon is mostly fat, sausages are processed meat with little nutritional value, and beans take forever to digest and they give you nasty wind in the process. Never understood why they love eating that crap so much, about the only redeemable thing about their breakfast is the egg part. Maybe that's the reason they tend to age so badly on that island?

by Anonymousreply 35July 12, 2025 1:12 PM

R25 R22 I know what kind of hotel it is. I live in Europe and have stay many times in such hotels. I'm not slagging the hotel, I'm just giving my opinion that it's not very nice. It's a functional hotel for that kind of traveller. The exercise room is sweet that its there but its grim in atmosphere. The pool is "nice" in a functional way. The view is good.

by Anonymousreply 36July 12, 2025 1:22 PM

R34- If I was forced to eat SPOTTED DICK afterwords I would be sitting on the toilet doing a lot of BUBBLE AND SQUEAK.

by Anonymousreply 37July 12, 2025 1:32 PM

Sounds more like the advertising blurb said the hotel served English breakfast but it didn't, so she complained to the tour operator that she didn't get what she paid for.

I think I get what you mean R36. I'm probably coming from the perspective of have been in many worse! I can't quite put my finger on it..the quality of these places can vary greatly. I've been in hotels that are older right and they might have a froffy lobby or a new paint job, but the rooms are in desperate need of renovation.. Maybe it's that a lot of hotels in the US are corporate chains so they have more uniform standards or the US has better mid range.

by Anonymousreply 42July 12, 2025 1:44 PM

The woman at r16 sounds like she was in a similar situation to what I described at r19. I know these people are easy to ridicule and they aren't particularly sophisticated, but they are paying for all-inclusive holidays that are marketed in a certain way. If the woman at r16 was given the impression that she was going to be mostly with other Brits, which would offer her a more congenial holiday experience, but then found herself in a hotel that was not really oriented for foreign tourists then she wasn't getting what she paid for and found herself in a non- relaxing environment. The tabloids then twist everything to make them sound like xenophobic nuts.

by Anonymousreply 43July 12, 2025 1:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 44July 12, 2025 1:47 PM

R11 is correct, for reasons unknown the newspaper didn't put the offending party's photo in the main spot.

Her photo comes later in the article at OP. In addition to Greek food, apparently sunblocker, moisturizer and a comb are also foreign concepts to her.

Many Americans do the same thing when they go to the Caribbean or Mexico. Sometimes you just want nice weather and relaxing.

by Anonymousreply 46July 12, 2025 1:50 PM

It's a functional hotel. Not awful. What might be awful are the clientele and the dinner menu. A package holiday creates a very particular ambiance. I have never been on one but I have been in hotels with such clientele.

by Anonymousreply 48July 12, 2025 1:53 PM

For all the complaints made about American food, American sausages are pretty good.

British sausages are disgusting. I know because Australian sausages are historically based on British ones. They are full of filler like water, breadcrumbs or maize and milk powder. They need a lot of fat to flavour this, almost as much as actual meat.

I buy sausages from Italian delis. No gluten, no breadcrumbs, just meat, fat, herbs and spices and red wine.

by Anonymousreply 49July 12, 2025 1:53 PM

R52, these are package holiday resort hotels. They are not hotels that are located in cities and belong to major hotel chains, which cater to business people and discerning travellers.

These types of places in Spain, Greece, Cyprus are not meant to cater to locals. They were built for mass, all-inclusive summer holidays by Brits, Germans, Swedes, etc. The hotels have agreements with large tour operators such as TUI or Thomas Cook, who provide all-inclusive package holidays, including flights as well, especially for foreigners.

by Anonymousreply 50July 12, 2025 1:53 PM

I meant a similar situation to what I described at r38.

[quote] And it's nuts to try to visit historic sites in the middle of a hot July or August in the Mediterranean.

I and everyone I know does this all the time; if there's a heat wave go in the morning (museums are cool anyway). We also go to the local beaches and have drinks on the harbor etc. And we eat the local food and meet up with friends who are locals. It's pathetic to go to a foreign country and just lie by a pool or beach at a cookie-cutter resort eating the same food you'd eat in your pub at home (but cooked even worse).

by Anonymousreply 55July 12, 2025 2:13 PM

It's sad and narrow, but what's to you? You don't get any brownie points for being more open-minded and curious.

by Anonymousreply 56July 12, 2025 2:19 PM

How would you feel if you booked a Caribbean resort and they only served what the locals eat for breakfast? She’s not going to this place to experience Greek culture. She’s just going for the sun, and the tour operator knows it.

by Anonymousreply 57July 12, 2025 2:27 PM

Great for you that you have friends who are locals in all the beach resorts of the Mediterranean, r55, but not everybody does. Some people just want a lazy holiday, and that's fine. I bet you think you're like the locals and having an authentic cultural experience, though!

In my younger years, I was the same and thought package holidays were a horror. I would only stay in rented rooms and go to all the archeological sites and museums, the more esoteric the better. And sleep on the deck on overnight ferries, take long train journeys to get to the next coach station, wake up at daft times to squeeze in as much as possible.

Now, I'm older I just like to relax and I've also, most importantly, learnt to distinguish between visiting places and having a summer holiday. A summer holiday is not for traipsing around trying to see as much as possible. I can do that during a mini-break in the spring or autumn. If you want an authentic Spanish or Greek experience, then do what the locals do in those countries in the summer - go to the beach!

by Anonymousreply 58July 12, 2025 2:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 61July 12, 2025 3:33 PM

[quote] How would you feel if you booked a Caribbean resort and they only served what the locals eat for breakfast?

That's actually been my experience the times I've stayed in the Caribbean. I'd never heard of or eaten the dishes in the resort's breakfast buffet (as opposed to individual things like coffee or fruit).

Funny how this thread has been taken over by defenders of spending your vacation lying in a resort and eating familiar food with absolutely no hint—except for the superior weather—that you're not still at home.

by Anonymousreply 62July 12, 2025 3:38 PM

R62, I'm a defender of people doing whatever they want on holiday. In the case of the woman who went to Greece, the way I read it is that the tour operator advertised the hotel as serving English breakfast, but it didn't. If one of the reasons she chose that particular hotel was because TUI said it served English breakfast and it didn't, then she has a right to complan. As it turns out, the complaints body agreed with her and she got a £100 refund.

by Anonymousreply 63July 12, 2025 5:29 PM

[quote] Funny how this thread has been taken over by defenders of spending your vacation lying in a resort and eating familiar food with absolutely no hint—except for the superior weather—that you're not still at home.

As opposed to those who want to mock the British tourist as an ignorant fat whore?

I’m not saying that would be my choice for a trip, but it certainly is for many. And you exaggerate what they want. Not “no hint” that they are not at home, but some familiar food for breakfast. Not really so outrageous, especially if the trip was sold by someone who knows what is expected.

by Anonymousreply 64July 12, 2025 5:36 PM

And this why the world looks down on the English.

by Anonymousreply 65July 12, 2025 5:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 66July 12, 2025 5:52 PM

R66 - mmmm - I don't know about that. You can be a whore for anything - in this case, food.

Are we even reading the same article?

Nothing in the articles indicated that she was promised in promotional literature it elsewhere a full English breakfast, rather only that thus was her personal expectation.

The article mentions nothing about a complaints panel, nor about a complaints panel finding in her favor. The article consults an independent consumer rights expert, with a blog, who comments on the case, concluding

[quote] Is it reasonable to claim for a lack of 'English food' on a continental holiday? Probably not.

Not was she awarded any damages. The travel company offered her a £100 voucher, which the client refused.

The "way you read it" is not with much care or attention.

by Anonymousreply 68July 12, 2025 10:02 PM

R68 Exactly! I went back and reread the article after seeing R63. I thought I'd missed something. Certainly if they had advertised a English breakfast, they should have provided one. The article in no way implied that such a breakfast or meals were advertised. As a matter of fact, towards then end of the article it says the following:

"Is it reasonable to claim for a lack of 'English food' on a continental holiday? Probably not. However, at least one TUI customer has succeeded in claiming limited compensation for this alleged breach, although she has got to buy another holiday to use it!"

To me, the above suggests her demands and expectations were unreasonable. They offered her a discount voucher for a future trip which is basically nothing.

I do judge the British woman a bit.

I do appreciate the whole "I just want to sit by the pool thing" and I wouldn't judge anyone who just wanted to sit somewhere warm by a pool. We all vacation in our own ways (I avoid tourist traps and try to live as if I'm a citizen of that city while I'm there) but my judgment isn't about that.

I have GI issues and.....listen, I'd be very empathetic if what she said was "I had difficulty finding the healthy food I needed" or "simple food" or whatever that would be. But what she said was, "I couldn't find exactly what they have at home." And even the most inexperienced traveler should have had *some* inkling things would be different in another part of the world.

(Never mind the fact that, for ulcerative colitis, you probably couldn't find more unhealthy, harmful food than the items she was craving and missing.)

by Anonymousreply 75July 12, 2025 11:34 PM

Foods to avoid with ulcerative colitis: "Sugary and high-fat foods, as well as fried foods and processed meats, can also exacerbate symptoms."

Sounds like that English breakfast is probably not the best choice.

by Anonymousreply 77July 13, 2025 4:11 AM

People like that woman ought to stay in serviced apartments with kitchens so they can make their morning fry up themselves. Or stay near an “English Pub” that serves breakfast.

But there’s no whinger like a Pommie whinger.

by Anonymousreply 78July 13, 2025 8:20 AM

R75, funny how you missed the bit where the consumer rights expert you quote said:

[quote]"The organiser must not provide misleading information. If the holiday does not match the description, you will be entitled to redress. The organiser must clearly state the details of the booking in a Standard Information Form, before you make any payment. The Form must include specifics of any arrangements: dates, times, costs, meals, excursions included/excluded, activities, transportation, cancellation fees, contact details for the package organiser, information on compulsory/voluntary insurance regarding repatriation in the event of illness/death/accident, and/or the cost of termination of the contract by the traveller

Considering the travel company gave the woman who complained received redress in the form of a £100 voucher, it sounds as though it did give misleading information on what the hotel provided.

by Anonymousreply 79July 13, 2025 8:31 AM

Yeah. They fed her for a night out. Almost.

by Anonymousreply 80July 13, 2025 9:24 AM

R79: My interpretation (not R75) is different: The travel company's £100 voucher given to the complaining bitch was their way of saying, "Thank you for letter of an account of service received on your recent all-inclusive trip with TUI to Corfu. We appreciate hearing from you in this matter and enclose a £100 voucher that you may apply to any future minimum 7-night mainland Europe all-inclusive trip with TUI."

TRANSLATION: "Here's a voucher for £100 that we sincerely hope you never dare use. With this we are quite done with your complaint and will be glad to see the back of you -- forever, we hope. P.S.: What on earth made you think we'd be serving full English fry ups?"

Here's a hundred quid. Now fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 82July 13, 2025 10:01 AM

R79 They gave her essentially nothing. A £100.00 voucher to use on her next paid trip through that same travel company is like giving her no redress what-so-ever. Now if you are able to find anything showing that they advertised that this hotel in Greece would provide an English breakfast, I'll agree she was treated unfairly.

by Anonymousreply 83July 13, 2025 10:28 AM

That's nothing, I know people in New Jersey that have millions of dollars and every country they travel to like South America and Africa their first complaint is they don't have good pizza. And they are not even Italian.

by Anonymousreply 84July 13, 2025 10:31 AM

I just looked up the hotel on booking and they do, in fact, state that they provide an "English/Irish breakfast". If the breakfast provided to her was as she says it was, I have to agree she didn't get what was advertised.

by Anonymousreply 85July 13, 2025 10:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 86July 13, 2025 11:03 AM

It actually says under breakfast, "Continental - Full English/Irish - American." It lists a fairly extensive list of menu items that include eggs and cold meats, but does not bacon or sausage. The reviews on booking go on and on about how wonderful the breakfast is and the overall score for the breakfast is 9.5 (out of a possible10). Obviously, reviews like that are subjective and she really may not have liked it. I'm inclined to think she is likely hard to please.

See, this is exactly the kind of fat assed, smelly CUNT tourist that causes locals to tell you types of tourists to fuck off and go home.

Greek food is among the healthiest in the world, but this diseased FAT COW, sick from the very shit food she's been consuming all her life, is too dumb and uneducated to realize this. She doesn't deserve to be there, taking up valuable Greek space that can be enjoyed by a civilized person.

Go vacation in America where's there's ultra processed options every 20 feet for your disgusting ass.

by Anonymousreply 90July 13, 2025 1:11 PM

Actually, r90, she isn't the type of tourist who makes locals want all tourists to fuck off, the opposite in fact. She's the type who goes to a small resort, stays almost all the time in the hotel complex and hardly encounters the locals at all. Greeks don't really vacation in those hotels, so she's not taking any Greek person's place.

The annoying ones are the ones who are more likely to call themselves travellers rather than tourists and who pack the centres of the cities, staying in Airbnbs, and then jumping over to somewhere like Santorini for a couple of days to get the Instagram photo. It's hard to get a taxi in downtown Athens on a Saturday evening because they are taken over by tourists who are willing to pay big tips in advance.

Similarly, R92, I live in a city that is a huge magnet for tourists.
