Miss Ricky Martin stormed off in a huff after Billy Bush almost outed him

Entertainment personality Billy Bush recently opened up about the time singer Ricky Martin became furious with him on the set of an interview after he asked the Grammy winner whether he was gay.

According to Bush, his rationale for the invasive question came after he ran into the singer's fans at a bar who were curious about his sexuality.

“He stiffens up in the chair and he goes, ‘What?’ And I go, ‘Oh boy,'” Bush said on the "Literally! With Rob Lowe" podcast. And he goes, ‘You motherf-cker,’ rips off his microphone.” Martin had choice words for him, saying, "You want your headline ... You piece of garbage."

Following the fiery exchange, Bush said Martin stormed off the set, leaving Bush to think to himself, "Oh sh-t." The feeling of dread was shared by a producer, who also told Bush, "This is terrible."

As the conversation continued with Lowe, Bush said he received a call from his bosses directly after Martin's blowup, who expressed their frustration with his line of questions.

However, Bush framed the unfortunate interaction as a pivotal learning moment that has helped him grow.

“I’m not in the business of hurting people. I am in the business of figuring out who I am and where I’m going. And you need to be able to make mistakes in life,” Bush, 52, said about the moment.

Bush stated that he managed to catch up with Martin after the "Maria" singer walked off the set and apologized for what he described as his "inappropriate" behavior.

“Ricky, I am so sorry for asking that question. I don’t know what I was thinking. It was a cowboy question. It was inappropriate. I’m so sorry, and I promise you this will never see the light of day," Bush said.

Martin replied by explaining to the "Extra" host that his sexuality was a deeply personal struggle.

“It is deeply personal to me," Martin continued. "I appreciate you coming back in here. I forgive you.”

Billy Bush was and still is a tool.

by Anonymousreply 2July 11, 2025 5:09 PM

And Ricky was a closet case chasing American fame.

[quote] Billy Bush was and still is a tool.

And I'd still suck on his tool.

He reminds me a little bit of Pete Hegseth.

He should have kicked Barbara Walters in the cuntbone.

by Anonymousreply 5July 11, 2025 5:34 PM

Billy Bush is a chud but...

Guys like Ricky want to have it both ways. They want to remain in the closet without having to actually lie, so when they finally come out they can say "I never lied!"

by Anonymousreply 6July 11, 2025 5:39 PM

Ricky should have played it way more coy.

When asked “Are you gay?” Instead of yelling about how it’s no one’s business, he should have said, “maybe. Maybe not”

Butcha are, Blanche, ya are!

Ricky Martin never fooled the American audience regarding him being a closet case back then.

In the 1999 episode of VH1's "I Love the 90s" (originally aired in 2004), actress-comedian Beth Littleford jokes about him being obviously gay. It's at the 23:35.

Billy Bush is a tool but it was a fair question for the time. This wasn’t 1950.

by Anonymousreply 10July 11, 2025 7:56 PM

It makes me wonder how many gay diva tantrums from closeted stars have there been when the cameras are turned off over the question.

by Anonymousreply 11July 11, 2025 8:01 PM

And to think, only a decade later, Ricky Martin has graduated to golden showers, and proud of it!

Not to mention closeups of his armpit on Instagram.

by Anonymousreply 13July 11, 2025 8:13 PM

Every gay man knew he was gay back then - Ricky wasn't so discrete in Miami before he was famous in the US.

Anyway - they REALLY went after him 25 years ago about his sexuality. They just wouldn't let it go - which is weird because the press gave so many other gay people a pass.

Ricky was right - Billy Bush is and always will be a douchebag.

by Anonymousreply 14July 11, 2025 8:14 PM

Did he grab him by the pussy?

by Anonymousreply 15July 11, 2025 8:23 PM

Who said Ricky was into golden showers?

by Anonymousreply 16July 11, 2025 8:24 PM

How could anyone think Ricky was ever straight. He's a diva through and through.

by Anonymousreply 17July 11, 2025 8:25 PM

I was hoping Billy Bush was history.

by Anonymousreply 18July 11, 2025 9:06 PM

Ricky Martin, so appealing until he covered his body in HIDEOUS INK.

Stop with the tattoos, for Christ's sake.

by Anonymousreply 19July 11, 2025 9:17 PM

Ricky was a Mexican, and those people just act gay. We didn’t think he liked cock.

by Anonymousreply 20July 11, 2025 9:28 PM

I’m so so sorry tired of Billy “learning” and “growing.” Jesus CHRIST, he’s a douche.

by Anonymousreply 21July 11, 2025 9:31 PM

R19, get some help. The extreme anti-tattoo people around here are exhausting. It's not your thing, we get it. I'm more horrified and disgusted by the horrible plastic surgery some people choose to have done. However, a tattoo around one's navel does make me wanna barf.

by Anonymousreply 22July 11, 2025 9:57 PM

R22. What makes you so fucking high and mighty because you don't like horrible plastic surgery but overlook tattoos?

They're both hideous.

by Anonymousreply 23July 11, 2025 10:32 PM

To each their own, you old crank. R19. I don't care for extreme tattoos for the most part, but some people wear them well. I don't automatically think those that have them are psychopaths or freaks of nature. Pumped up lips on a man scares me more. Face tattoos aren't cool either for the most part. We'd likely meet halfway on the topic of tattoos but c'mon, is it really that much of a deal-breaker for you?

by Anonymousreply 24July 11, 2025 11:09 PM

[quote]How could anyone think Ricky was ever straight. He's a diva through and through.

I could see the assumption back in the 80s when he was just a kid in Menudo. Any signs of flamboyance could be attributed to the assembly line on which they cranked out the band members. By the time of his solo career in the 90s though, even soccer moms in the South knew.

by Anonymousreply 25July 11, 2025 11:39 PM

R25 - believe me - nobody thought or knew he was gay the first year of his popularity. Except gay men - because we had SEEN HIM at gay clubs and word got around.

And when he did say he was bi or some mealy-mouth way of saying he sucks dick but is not totally gay - his career went ice cold in the US.

Most women in America thought he was hot as fuck - and he was. And they all thought he was straight.

by Anonymousreply 26July 11, 2025 11:47 PM

Ricky Martin is a catch

by Anonymousreply 27July 11, 2025 11:53 PM

Wait, who the fuck didn’t know this? Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 28July 12, 2025 12:19 AM

[quote] Except gay men - because we had SEEN HIM at gay clubs and word got around.

This never happened.

by Anonymousreply 29July 12, 2025 4:50 AM

Billy Bush strikes me as a homophobe who covers it up because he's an approval-seeking narcissist.

by Anonymousreply 30July 12, 2025 6:37 AM

[quote]We'd likely meet halfway on the topic of tattoos but c'mon, is it really that much of a deal-breaker for you?

R24. No, we wouldn't. Yes, it is.

by Anonymousreply 31July 12, 2025 8:07 AM

[quote] Guys like Ricky want to have it both ways. They want to remain in the closet without having to actually lie, so when they finally come out they can say "I never lied!"

There was only ONE way in 1998. He could not have been an openly gay American pop star. Crossing over from Latin to Pop it just wasn't possible.

by Anonymousreply 32July 12, 2025 8:12 AM

[quote] And to think, only a decade later, Ricky Martin has graduated to golden showers, and proud of it!

He was always gay. He was openly gay on Broadway before his pop stardom.
