I am surprised by how bright the interiors are, but I find it no less horrifying. I don't think I'd be able to sleep there.

The kitchen and basement are in PRISTINE condition.

Well, that is some spacious looking bathroom at pic #27. Relaxing, even.
Then you see the bathroom at pic #28, which eradicates the prior relaxation.
It gets even worse beyond that with the shiny, dark green bedroom. That's nightmare-inducing.

Gorgeous surroundings, but the main building is cheaply put together and architecturally not really suitable for a home without numerous alterations.
[quote]Since the first worship service on March 8, 1954, Shepherd of the Hills has fostered a sense of love for one another gathered in community for the sake of God’s grace in the world. The sanctuary was added on in 1956 and the pastor still resides in the upstairs of the building.
Lutherans be melting away. I assume the pastor upstairs is dead now, or does he come with the building? I sure hope that's not him in a body bag in the photo number 25.

Fun fact: Concrete, Washington is the hometown of writer Tobias Wolff, author of the memoir "This Boy's Life". The movie adaptation starring Robert De Niro, Ellen Barkin, and Leonardo DiCaprio was partly filmed in the town.

That IS a fun fact, r4!

R3 I agree that the church addition looks cheaply put-together, but I don't think that's the "main" part of the building, and it's certainly not the living space. It was clearly added on to the original structure, which was built as a hospital and is much older. You can tell by all the radiators, chimney/fireplace, and other fixtures that much of the main building is original, and it appears to be in very good condition. If I owned it, I'd demolish the church addition immediately.

I love the staircase, but that '70s pebble glass partition wall at the top is offensive and needs to be dismantled, stat.

I guess I see the nave as the main building because of my Catholic roots, the Protestants worshipping inside probably didn't perceive it that way. I never mentioned it was the living space, which was added two years later, per the paragraph I quoted.

This structure would make a great theater arts retreat. Plenty of performance and rehearsal space, and lots of rooms for the attendees.

Is it in a good area? It seems like a steal or a ploy to obtain multiple offers and bidding over the list price.

It is NOT a good area.
Beautiful scenery but no jobs and lots of problems with drugs.

Cheers to R9, who manages to suggest a positive proposition for an unconventional property.
I was thinking that the more residential part could be deinstitutionalized, the dropped ceilings and like alterations undone, and the churchy part reworked as a large art studio (and its unfortunate exterior elevations redesigned into something less sad, less Lutheran.)
It would be a bit if an odd result, but redecorated, refurbished, and hung with lots of art, the odd/quirky aspects could swing to a positive.
Otherwise it's a house for one of those cult families with 37 foster kids.

I'm not familiar with the area, but it looks beautiful. The house...not so much, but it's not a wreck either. I don't see a river nearby. Maybe you could use it 4H camp, or something along those lines.

Is it haunted?

There's a river (or lake) about 3 - 4 blocks (?) away, if you look all the way through the pics.

All churches made into houses look odd to me. Much less hospitals made into houses made into churches made into houses.
