Some idiot has paid $10 million for the original Birkin bag made for British actress Jane Birkin back in 1984. It's ratty, scuffed, and the piping is worn through.
I saw a video done by a leather bag expert who breaks down expensive bags and then lists what the bag is worth in materials and then labor. These 30k and up bags have about $350.00 in parts and the labor is about $500.00. The exotic leather bags cost more obviously but only by a couple hundred dollars.

They’re very heavy and cumbersome. Status symbols which are uncomfortable are inherently tasteless. I see these underweight Real Housewives hauling them around and wonder if their wrists will snap.
