My b-in-l is like this. Constant preaching - has it ALL figured out in the most simplistic terms. Family now avoids him. Spends most of his time hunting, skeet shooting and terrorizing his wife (my husband's sister). Meanwhile, he lost his pension due to the shenanigans of a board of directors who were clearly Republican. To make money he runs franchise truck stops, cigarette store and even made the front page of the local paper when he was busted with illegal slot machines. Held us captive one night at dinner talking about wind farms killing birds so we should stick with oil and coal. Um, you kill birds, dude. We now avoid.

We all see Adam's point. He's not breaking new ground here. But ever wonder why? Why are all these men, straight and gay, falling in line? Are they filling a void or need? Being a straight man is oppressive. Not in a systematic sense but emotional and mental oppression.

Growing up with rigid gender norms, internalized expectations to be performative masculine can take an emotional toll on men.
