Diane Baker
What happened to Diane Baker? Any rumors or gossip?
She worked alongside the likes of Gregory Peck (Mirage), Sean Connery (Hitchcock's Marine), Paul Newman (The Prize), and Joan Crawford (The Best of Everything and Strait Jacket), but after 1970 her film career fizzled out and she turned to television work.
After she was cast in The Silence of the Lambs she saw a bit of a career resurgence in The Joy Luck Club, The Net, The Cable Guy, Courage Under Fire, Murder at 1600, and several episodes of House.

Did she always play weak characters? For a while I confused her with that actress whose nurse character gets her leg amputated in that doctor movie with Ben Gazarra.

She wasn’t originally hired to do STRAITJACKET with Joan Crawford.
The role of the daughter was first going to be played by a very sexy actress, Anne Helm. But after just a day or so’s filming Crawford demanded Helm be replaced - and requested Baker (who she remembered from THE BEST OF EVERYTHING.)

She was also in The Cable Guy, where she played Jim Carrey's mother. George Segal was Carrey's father.

When her friend Robert Osborne was alive she was pretty active with TCM.
Not sure if she is still there but like 7 years ago or so she was the head of the acting department at an MFA Acting program in San Francisco.

Diane Baker was pretty and mousy at the same time, you can understand why Joan wanted her over Anne Helm.

Why do you keep calling Marnie “Marine?!”

Alfred Hitchcock originally wanted Suzanne Pleshette to play Lil in MARNIE. She said she would only accept leading roles, and the movie wasn't called LIL.

One of the weirdest TV Guide articles I ever read was in the 1970s, when a reporter wrote that he/she was assigned to write a portrait of Diane Baker, but she was so incredibly boring that there was nothing worth mentioning about her.

Wow, I didn't know that. I fell in love with Anne Helm the last 2-3 years; she pops up in a lot of the dozens of Westerns I watch.
Gorgeous girl. I can understand why Miss Crawford 86'd her.
