I’ve recently become addicted to low budget cheesy Tubi movies. They’re so bizarre it’s like it’s own genre. They’re a little like ghetto after school specials with the heavy handed moral lessons and bad acting.
What do you mean by "ghetto" in this context?

The movies are about pimps, hoes and people involved In trashy relationships.

I’m watching The House on Sorority Row. Where Eileen Davidson demonstrates that she’s an adequate soap actress.

Actually Tubi has an excellent list of musician, artist, models, and other documentaries. Really good ones.

Pluto TV has a black cinema channel..it's much better than Tubi, in my opinion.

I love Tubi, bless the person who mentioned it here at Datalounge, it's a good mixture of schlock, independent & mainstream movies.

Toni does have some legitimately good movies. The trashier movies I’ve enjoyed are Lot Lizards and Hell in My Life: The Stacey Staxx Story

With Tubi, it depends on what you're looking for.
They have a lot of foreign language films, and their selection puts Pluto to shame.
Just some of the examples include movies by Kurosawa, the Tavianni Brothers, Herzog, Buñuel, Ozu and Zhang Yimou.)
And unlike Pluto, Tubi has a phenomenal number of gay movies, most of which I've never heard of before.
And while some of those movies are absolute garbage, there are a good number that I have seen that I've liked a lot, like Nobody's Watching and Temblores.

Tubi reminds me of going to a Blockbuster video store. No interest in 95% of the offerings - but there are always hidden gems mixed it. I've found many movies I never would have known about that become personal favorites. I watch more Tubi than any of the pay sites and I have most of them.

Wow the rape scene in the trailer is crazy.

R11 - that's how I ended up feeling about Netflix. I finally got the balls and canceled Netflix this month. There just was not enough new or interesting programming for me - and a lot of old stuff that's been up there for years.
They've gone for more international content and it just doesn't track with my interests. I have no problems with subtitles, but it feels like 35% of content is now foreign - again, that's fine - but they keep pushing it.
Netflix is garbage now and has been for the past couple of years. Tubi, with its faults, is still free.

I also love a good, non-subtle Tubi movie. 10 years ago you couldn’t find half of these.
If you like the preachy after school special vibe I’d suggest a show from the UK called Moving On. You can find it on Britbox and YouTube.

Tubi has some good documentaries, too.
I watched the one about Terrence McNally. He talked about fucking his way through high school and there was a picture of him with three or four of his high school friends - but it didn't say which one[s] he had sex with.

There is a really good documentary called Bowery on there

Also Mourning Son about Dave Navarro dealing with his mom’s murder and Our Precious Hope a documentary about an unidentified child found in St. Louis in the 80s

Mr. Bean episodes are on there

I read Werner Herzog's memoir earlier this year and it made me want to seek out a lot of his older documentaries that I'd never seen. I was stunned to find them all on Tubi.

I like Tubi's Brit noir and kitchen sink section.

I hate the name of that site. Just stupid. I do watch it sometimes, though.

A lot of good exploitation movies on there as well, some of them quite obscure. I'll go on tonight, see what's in my queue, and post here.
One I saw recently was a regional (Brooklyn) exploitation pic called TEENAGE GANG DEBS, which was slow but all the girls obviously did their own hair, makeup, and clothes. It was a great look at what John Waters recreated in FEMALE TROUBLE: dimestore mascara and lipstick, ludicrously teased hair, cheap and probably shoplifted tight clothes.

The Tubi Original Titanic 666 is a riot. Apparently, Tubi isn't aiming for prestige. Surely, no one involved though they were making a good movie--one hopes. It's also filled with actors who look like--but who never are--better-known actors.

Went on Tubi last night, and wow, there are a lot of gay movies there. Anyone here have any that they especially enjoyed?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 3, 2025 9:22 AM |
Tubi has the best collection of gay movies out of all the streaming services - probably combined.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 3, 2025 9:39 AM |
I always mix up Tubi and Mubi. Turns out, shockingly, they’re not related at all.

[quote] They have a lot of foreign language films.
Which is great, but I've come across ones that lack subtitles, which is a bummer.

Cheetah in August…watched on Tubi a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely one of the worst shows ever. But I kept watching it, hoping it would eventually make sense. Horrible acting editing and bad continuity.

I like the documentary BOULEVARD! about two gay guys and Gloria Swanson trying to get a musical version of Sunset Boulevard off the ground in the mid 1950's.
