Why does everything revolve around FOOD?!
Kind of a rant and Reddit was full.
Maybe it is me (probably).
First, let's get this out of the way - Yes, I type fat.
I'm on Wegovy (fat person's Ozempic), and it has worked really well. I've lost around 90 pounds. Blood pressure now normal. A1C now normal. No sagging skin. No notes.
However ....
Every fucking place I go, I now notice that it revolves around food.
Movie theaters (not just popcorn but full on meals) at most theaters these days.
I'm a beer guy, and food is everywhere at breweries.
I took my Dad to a baseball game, and holy shit was food everywhere.
I went to a musical the other day and snacks, upon snacks at intermission (in addition to booze).
I will absolutely add, that the drug makes it a non-issue. I'm rarely tempted to eat much less overeat. I'm just shocked how prevalent it is (and I'm also shocked I never noticed it before).
I know food/meals are a universal thing for people to share/enjoy, but for me, this explains a lot on why it is so easy to gain weight over time. It is just everywhere.
Rant over, feel free to post pics of Chrissy Metz.

I'm baking a lasagna for dinner tonight. Spinach and grilled zucchini, with a tomato-basil sauce and tons of cheese (including a ricotta layer).

It’s the future of addiction medicine, OP
If they can turn off the food cravings, think of what else is possible.

I was joking R3 (or trying to make a joke would be more accurate).
I see more than a few posts that say "Take it to Reddit".

Because we eat food not only to sustain ourselves, but to satisfy our tastes, share time with others, and learn about different cultures. nk

Many people have bad eating habits. Junk food can be addictive. Personally, I know that I could come home, fix a pasta dinner, eat some bread, have it done in 45 min and have the rest of the evening to myself. But it's carb-laden and makes you crave other carbs (like cookies). It's about moderation, balance, and a modicum of self-control.

Wegovy and Ozempic (and Zepbound and Mounjaro) are identical drugs sold under different brand names depending on the patient's diagnosis. Wegovy & Zepbound = obesity. Mounjaro & Ozepmic = diabetes.
I assume this is for insurance and FDA approved indications reasons.
Zepbound & Wegovy are also considerably more expensive for ... reasons so there is that as well.

It’s so insurance can deny coverage for the fatty drugs.

Congratulations on having your eyes opened, OP.
Always interesting revelations when people start paying attention to the world around them.
When I came out of the closet during college, I started seeing a whole new world that had been right there before my eyes all along.
OP gets on Ozempic and discovers there is food in the world and that food is built into most social events/gathering.

I am in month 2 of Mounjaro. I have lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks. Had resisted doctor's prescription for a year. I am pre diabetic and have other health issues (osteoarthritis, elevated lipids, fatty liver) which my doctor feels would be helped. Had lost 20 pounds on my own, but stalled with about 40 pounds to go. I am staying at the lowest dose 2.5 as long as possible to try to avoid long term side effects. My hunger is greatly lessened, and I agree with OP. Everything does seem to revolve around food, and the hunger signals (food noise) are everywhere. I am making sure I get enough protein each day, also fruit and vegetables, hydrating. This is a task, since hunger is lessened and one feels satiated for longer.
The first week I had some slight nausea, and some gastric upset. My mouth was dry, so needed to up hydration significantly. That passed in week two and no problems since. I expected that, what I didn't expect were all the positive and unexpected side effects. I sleep much more soundly, get up early with a lot of energy. My joint pain and inflammation are already reduced. I have had a lifelong constipation problem, now regulated. I have never been depressive but I am a worrier, my mood is very elevated and even. I find that worrying is minimal. Overall it is like a "shot in the arm".
I will have blood work done after the third month, and expect to see my A1C and LDL lowered. I am writing all this to encourage others to try these medications. One can always stop if there are any troubling side effects. I believe that staying at lowest dose indefinitely will mitigate or avoid serious side effects. When I reach my goal, I will wean off slowly, with the help of a dietician. If I need to, I will consider staying on a microdose indefinitely.

I know DL's tagline calls out bitchiness R14, so bravo. :)
The thing is, I really don't think most people see it (even the skinny ones).
There is just no reason to have full on meals available/pushed at a movie theater or a football or baseball game.
Well I know the reason, and it is because this type of food is cheap to make, and there are huge markups at these types of venues. I'm just genuinely surprised I've never noticed it, and given the huge (pun intended) amount of obese people in the US, I wasn't the only one missing it.

Everything does NOT revolve around food in the perception of a person who eats normally and is not an obese cow who needs drugs for a last chance to slim down to normal.
Now you have the long road of changing your perception of the world. You think the theatre REVOLVES AROUND FOOD? Oh, honey. And plenty of people go to movies and eat NOTHING.
Your mind is obsessed with food so that is what you see.

When I wasn’t allowed to eat before a colonoscopy, I noticed that so much on tv was eating or advertising for eating. It was maddening.

OP I'm not saying that foods (especially unhealthy ones) aren't pushed on the public because the fact is that they are, but it's up to you to make the choice whether or not to eat it. The reality is that humans have bonded for millennia over food/culinary endeavors. We all have to eat, so it is something that is (no pun intended) baked into all societies since the beginning of time—food is something we can all naturally relate to each other through. But again, it's just about the choices you make. I'm a type 1 diabetic, and I cannot remember the last time I went to the movies and got popcorn or any food. At most, I'll get a diet soda, but oftentimes I get nothing. For me, it's a practical decision because I don't want to have to worry about injecting insulin and monitoring my blood sugar while I'm trying to watch a movie. It's impractical and a nuisance. I'd just rather go without for two hours. Perhaps I have more willpower than the average person because I have to pay so much attention to the food I eat, but again, it's just a choice I make.

In the same way, when you stop drinking, the whole world seems to revolve around alcohol. It's a challenge, and requires mindful self-control and re-ordering your social life.

R17 - I was thinking the same thing as I was reading this thread.
As a skinny person who never feels tempted, I couldn't understand what the OP was yapping about re food being pushed on people.
For example seeing food being available in a theater or an arena isn't the same as feeling pressured to purchase anything they're selling, at least to anyone who doesn't have a food addiction.
It's like going food shopping: some people enter a supermarket with a list and purchase only what they need, while others fill their cart with fattening crap, and then wonder why they're 30 or 60 or100 pounds overweight.

At least you've waken up to it now by leaving your fat whore ways behind. Now go into the world and spread that svelte gospel to the less fortunate.

Can we talk about the vast amounts of food Americans eat while driving or just waddling around on the streets?
If Americans are in motion, they are also eating.

Thy wasn’t my point R21, you hateful piece of shit. I had never noticed the bombardment of food advertising until I was not allowed to eat. It hadn’t even registered. I find that disconcerting.
