Tasteful Friends - How would you rate this San Diego home

where a woman was found in the freezer two years ago?

Of course they've renovated a little since then.

Here's a news report that will give you a glimpse of the "Before" on this house.

All that white would highlight blood splatter in case the future owner gets any funny ideas.

by Anonymousreply 2July 3, 2025 7:48 PM

Spatter* sigh

by Anonymousreply 3July 3, 2025 7:58 PM

Ugh - well, I guess if you're going to buy a house where a dead body was stored, it's better that the body was stored in the backyard and not in the house?

Ugly basic flip though. And Allied Gardens has zero appeal.

by Anonymousreply 4July 3, 2025 8:19 PM

Is this a very nice, desirable part of San Diego? The price is startling for its size. Is it getting more expensive than L.A.?

by Anonymousreply 5July 3, 2025 8:50 PM

It has good bones

by Anonymousreply 6July 3, 2025 8:52 PM

I see that Guyana has also renovated and opened up Jonestown as an amusement park.

by Anonymousreply 7July 3, 2025 8:57 PM

It would be fine if it was repainted inside and out. As it is it's just too sterile.

by Anonymousreply 8July 3, 2025 9:06 PM

[quote]Is this a very nice, desirable part of San Diego? The price is startling for its size. Is it getting more expensive than L.A.?

That is mind blowing to me that a home like that is almost $1M.

It is right across from an elementary school which would be a pass for me. All those parents dropping off/picking up their kids twice a day. No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 9July 3, 2025 9:10 PM

Is the freezer included in the fixture and fittings?

by Anonymousreply 10July 3, 2025 9:12 PM

That ghost gonna STAY mad.

by Anonymousreply 11July 3, 2025 9:16 PM

Hopefully this joint has been gutted. CGI everywhere.... Does the Real Estate agent have to mention a body was found in the house??

by Anonymousreply 12July 3, 2025 9:19 PM

The real crime is the grayish faux wood floor. Thankfully it was a rather short lived craze, five years maybe? Such a bad look. It's a total deal breaker for me because I cannot just paint it in another color. And I certainly cannot live with it.

Bob, why is there a punching bag in the front yard? It’s in the crime scene photo as well as the flipper photos.

Plus, it’s in front of an elementary school. Does the owner go out and beat the shit out of the bag during loading and unloading zones? Is he yelling, “Shut yer kids up, I tells ya! Or I’ll kill them and put them in a freezer!”

by Anonymousreply 15July 3, 2025 9:45 PM

Hideous.

by Anonymousreply 16July 3, 2025 9:50 PM

There are no. closets. Just a couple rods.

by Anonymousreply 17July 3, 2025 9:52 PM

R5 - it's not a desirable neighborhood. Almost all single family homes in San Diego are over a million for very basic houses - even in bad neighborhoods.

It's not an awful neighborhood - there's just nothing happening in that area.

by Anonymousreply 18July 3, 2025 9:54 PM

It doesn't seem to have an outrageous price tag, but it is on the market for 42 days already. The fixer bought it for 690k and now wants 42% more for it. They must have used lumber from China.

by Anonymousreply 19July 3, 2025 10:11 PM

[quote]Does the Real Estate agent have to mention a body was found in the house??

They're discussing this on Reddit. Google says: "In California, sellers must disclose any death that has occurred on the property within the last three years, regardless of the cause of death, including natural causes, accidents, or homicides. If a buyer specifically asks about deaths, the seller is obligated to disclose any death that has occurred on the property, regardless of how long ago it happened. However, deaths from AIDS or other illnesses that cannot be transmitted through occupancy are not required to be disclosed."

The problem is that it's not clear how long she was in the freezer, so she may not have died within the last three years. But if somebody asks about deaths, the sellers will have to 'fess up.

It was also a hoarder house, by the way (which presumably is why the woman was in the freezer).

by Anonymousreply 20July 3, 2025 10:48 PM

There’s a lot of photoshop happening in those exterior photos.

by Anonymousreply 21July 3, 2025 10:50 PM

Thanks R20

by Anonymousreply 22July 3, 2025 10:50 PM

Was it a chest or upright freezer? Was she placed next to anything like a frozen pizza or turkey? Need more details!

by Anonymousreply 23July 3, 2025 11:41 PM

It looks nice.

by Anonymousreply 24July 4, 2025 12:28 AM

Seems passable…nicely done primary bath.

You have to wonder if, post-sale, you discover more body parts in appliances or in a crawl space—Does American Home Shield cover that?

by Anonymousreply 25July 4, 2025 12:47 AM

R23 I agree we need more details! Was she cut up or placed whole in the freezer? More importantly what was she wrapped with? wax paper? Aluminum foil? Saran wrap? Aluminum foil is the way to go if you want to avoid freezer burn!

by Anonymousreply 26July 4, 2025 12:56 AM

R26 - those are weird questions!

The real question is whether there was a box of Arm and Hammer in the freezer? And was it next to the ice cube tray?

THOSE are the questions people want to know!

by Anonymousreply 27July 4, 2025 12:59 AM

I hear Brendad Ickson is in the market for a new place ... I can just picture it: "Well, hello! Welcome to my crime scene!"

by Anonymousreply 28July 4, 2025 1:00 AM

r8, I think that is the intention- LOOK! No death here! It's pure and sterile!

by Anonymousreply 29July 4, 2025 1:14 AM

Like a morgue

I’ve heard there have been some internet problems in Pittsburgh.

by Anonymousreply 31July 4, 2025 1:24 AM

If you all knew what has collectively gone down in your hotel room over the years, you would never stay in one again.

It's one body - outside. No evidence she was killed - she was obese and had health issues.

Still I guess not a great story for your housewarming party.

by Anonymousreply 32July 4, 2025 1:30 AM

R20

In TX, only murders and deaths related to a material defect of the house must be disclosed.

by Anonymousreply 33July 4, 2025 1:55 AM

Never visit R33 Even if the VRBO seems like a steal.

by Anonymousreply 34July 4, 2025 1:59 AM

It needs colourful paint and wallpaper, interesting furniture and more storage space. That enclosed gazebo/deck has more character than the whole house. A tree or two in the yard wouldn't be a bad idea either.

by Anonymousreply 35July 4, 2025 2:48 AM

The ice cold color scheme is appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 36July 4, 2025 3:30 AM

Generica.

[quote]Was it a chest or upright freezer? Was she placed next to anything like a frozen pizza or turkey?

Chest freezer - other contents unknown.

by Anonymousreply 39July 4, 2025 4:54 AM

For a million bucks they could have installed some closet doors.

by Anonymousreply 40July 4, 2025 5:19 AM

If I liked the space, and it was cleaned up as well as this, I don't think it would bother me unless I was acquainted with someone involved. But I don't like it.

Whenever you live in an old place you have to know that death has happened there.

The house where I spent most of my later childhood and teens had been the site of a questionable suicide, the father - an English Literature professor. Gunshot but he was so full of booze and barbituates he would have died anyway. The wife was an instructor at the same institution. My parents were coworkers. She and her son & daughter were with us at my grandmother's summer cottage, swimming, when the phonecall came.

After we moved in I almost never thought about it. My grandmother moved into the ground floor bedroom where he did it. Its a beautiful old place, built in 1923. 2 1/2 floors + basement. Brick craftsman. My sister lives there now.

But that other family refused to visit. Can't blame them. And other coworkers were reticent about why they didn't stay too long for cocktails.

We kids wanted to do up the place for Halloween one year, even suggesting the sordid history as a theme and both our parents flipped out. We were called every horrible name in the book by both of them, as a united front.

I just adore Modern Dystopia!

by Anonymousreply 42July 4, 2025 6:16 AM

If I avoided places where people died a gruesome death I couldn't go anywhere. Imagine all the deadly car accidents or parks where people hung themselves or lakes where people drowned. Actually - don't imagine it. I have no problem to block that out and rather imagine what kind of fun time people had at the park or at the lake.

That house's history wouldn't bother me much. But just to increase the appeal it would have helped to stay away from the hospital/morgue color palette when flipping the house.

by Anonymousreply 43July 4, 2025 1:18 PM

The death thing doesn't bother me, but paying a millions bucks for a basic crackerbox is what bothers me

by Anonymousreply 44July 4, 2025 1:28 PM

There's probably some buried native Americans or Spanish colonists around that area anyway - it's within a mile or 1.5 of the San Diego Mission from the 18th century.

There's an ick factor - but it's not like someone was brutally murdered in the house. Sounds like the guy's wife died and he was reliant on her social security or other benefits to live, so he kept her body and didn't do a death certificate.

Once that bad decision is made, after a few days - you can't undo it. You have to keep with that plan forever because you'd be arrested.

by Anonymousreply 45July 4, 2025 2:43 PM

It’s so white; like I imagine this is what a ghost’s house would look like.

by Anonymousreply 46July 4, 2025 3:33 PM

It is the most C+ listing ever seen on Tasteful Friends.

Ordinary and mediocre on so many levels without being offensive.

Blah beyond belief.

The kind of house a Dexter would move into...

by Anonymousreply 47July 4, 2025 3:39 PM

Interesting to read r20's reply.

I found out a house in our neighborhood was the site of a homicide some years ago. Sadly, it was an eldergay that apparently brought the wrong trick home, who then robbed and killed him.
