Susan Smith, Karla Homolka, Reena Virk, Kelly Ellard. This is the first I've heard of Lori Vallow.

I feel like Betty Broderick is/was a deeply wounded, angry woman - I wouldn’t put her in the same category as the others. Not making excuses for her being a murdering ho, but did she show signs of psychopathy before?

I agree, Betty Broderick does not deserve to be in this list. By all accounts she was a devoted, involved mother and great hostess until she lost her mind.

And DL loves a great hostess!

She is delusional as hell. She does have a manic charisma about her, though—most sociopaths do. I wouldn’t say that religion is the root of her problems; I think she was probably insane to begin with and her fringe LDS cult beliefs became the centerpiece that all her psychotic, warped thinking molded around. I cannot tell with her whether or not these insane “rationalizations” are just her trying to make excuses so she can sleep at night, or if she actually believed her kids were possessed and she was doing the right thing by “sending them to heaven”.

She was waaaaaaay more lucid than I expected. A very interesting specimen.

Does anyone think that if Ruby Franke hadn't gotten hemmed up when she did that she would have turned into another Lori Vallow? Both of them had weird, hardcore LDS indoctrination and spun that into seeing their children as demons and punishment/murder as righteous. I think both Ruby and that blob she hooked up with had some folie a deux thing going on.

Aileen Wuornos was also a deeply wounded woman. Her peers and her family treated her like absolute trash growing up. I've always felt sorry for her. She was a victim who went on to victimize others. And then was killed for it.
