M3gan 2.0- What a bomb. What idiots-

Loved it even more than the first one! I don't care for horror though, and didn't find the first one all that scary.

The shit hits different now that a bunch of Megans are actually running our mafuckin government.

R1- That is awesome. I was here predicting that the original would be a massive hit the minute the trailers aired-

I loved the uncut version of the original.

This one for me is definitely a wait until its on "cable".. I have a feeling that I will enjoy it.

But I don't know what these producers were thinking- and its the ORIGINAL FUCKING TEAM!

R3- There will be no M3GAN 3. There is no fucking way.

This Soulmate (It has a number in it too- I forgot where) actually sounds awesome and very much more a "thriller"...

Try watching Companion- don't look at posters or trailers, just watch- it's fun, and has Lucas Gage.

The original was camp because the doll looked like a little girl. Now she just looks like a young adult TikTokker. The actress grew up and they didn’t want to replace her.

The correct thing to do would have been to use VFX to put the original actresses’s head on a younger body. The appeal on M3GAN was that she was a little girl who KILLS, a Rhoda Penmark for the cyberpunk era.

Yes r6, people should NOT even read the summary on Max (if that’s where you watch it). The idiots who wrote that at Max gave away a major plot point in the fucking summary.

It’s like people have forgotten that movies are stories.

Sophie Thatcher deserves an Oscar for “Companion.” The movie itself isn’t amazing in and of itself. It’s Sophie that makes it unmissable.

The NY Times suggested the root of M3GAN’s appeal to gay men was the trauma gay men remember from their childhoods when they longed to play with girl’s toys and dolls but were told not to. M3GAN channeled the shame into homicidal revenge.

Obviously all that is lost if the robot no longer looks like a child’s toy.

This feels like an appropriate thread to mention this, but remember when the Child's Play movies actually made Chucky look like a doll that you would want to buy for a kid? The reboots abandonned that concept.

I'm assuming they felt there was only so much mileage in the evil doll genre and tried to expand the franchise.

I'm writing my thesis on this.

The sequel is a major bomb -- only $10 million on opening weekend, after many projections thought it would "easily" hit $20 million or even $30. Pivoting to action instead of horror seems to be the reason. It was way too early in this franchise's history to make M3GAN the hero. A simple retread of the original with M3GAN returning to wreak havoc would have been an easier sell.

There was really only one direction they could have gone with the sequel which would have excited its core audience.

I want a "He Who Kills" movie about the Zuni fetish doll that haunted my Gen X childhood.

The 2.0 they should have gone with.

Everyone knew this was a cash grab. I think it was cute enough. A third movie is really not necessary, but they’ll probably make at least 4.

Reimagine MEGAN with the doll based on La McCain and starring The Cynthia’s, Billy porter and Faye.

I've been saying they should do a M3gan X Chucky crossover- that would rake in the bucks.
