MobLand (2025)
I did a search for this forum and nothing came up under 'MobLand', so if there's a thread from before my apologies.
Is anyone watching this Paramount streamer starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Bronson and Helen Mirren ? One of the best on TV this season. I'm expecting it to receive a number of Emmy Awards this year.

"MOBLAND" IS AWESOME!!!
However, use "close-captioned" because some of the accents are pretty thick.
The cast is great, but Helen Mirren& psychotic ( I believe he's gay) grandson need to Die.

Yes, USE CC ! I would never be able to understand some of the conversations if I hadn't.
I finished 'Godfather of Harlem' earlier this week (also on Paramount) and one of my friends said if I liked that (I didn't - I LOVED that!) then this should be my next watch. Sure enough, it hasn't disappointed.
And YES, I should say both 'Godfather of Harlem' and 'MobLand' are the two best dramas I have seen on TV in a very long time. They should both be flooded with Emmys next September. (Especially Lucy Fry of 'GoH').

I've seen mixed reactions to it on Reddit ("terrible writing, Dad TV, the Yellowstone of mob dramas..."). They've also complained about someone named Maeve a lot, which intrigues me and makes me want to check it out.
Apparently it's huge in Australia, the most popular show ever from Paramount.

Maeve is the matriarch of one of the 'mob families' expertly played by Helen Mirren. (As Millennials like to say, 'She's AMAZING!').

It's utter garbage.
They're all clearly just collecting a paycheck.
Helen Mirren appears openly contemptuous of the audience, like she's going out of her way. That's how bad her acting is.
Pierce is acting like (or has actually become) a doddering old Irishman who appears to be in the early stages of dementia.
Don't even get me started on the writing.

Maeve is not "Amazing", she literally caused 95% of the problems her family had experienced.
She had her own 1st born son murdered caused she wanted her husband's bastard daughter murdered (I like the daughter).
Pierce Bronson is playing an old drunken Irishman who has early Alzheimer or dementia.

I was referring to Mirren as being 'amazing'.

I'm now half way through, and this show just gets better and better. I'm predicting Emmy noms in a few weeks.

I watched it. It's pretty standard Guy Richie fare. Lots of shallow characters who are meant to suave or charming but just come off as scummy douchebags. Lots of failed attempts at humor. Helen Mirren does a shockingly bad Irish accent.
McMafia and Gangs of London are superior UK gangster shows.
