Ryan Reynolds Under Fire For 'Buying' His Way Onto TIME Cover: 'Barf'

Ryan Reynolds is once again making headlines, but this time, it’s not for his next big blockbuster or buzzy business deal.

The "Deadpool" star's recent TIME cover has ignited a firestorm online, with fans mocking the feature and accusing Reynolds of “buying” his way onto the prestigious publication.

The 48-year-old actor was the focus of a feature titled “How Ryan Reynolds Rewrote the Script for Celebrity Entrepreneurs”, highlighting his impressive business ventures, including his production and marketing firm Maximum Effort, which recently earned a spot on TIME100's Most Influential Companies list.

However, it was the timing of Ryan Reynolds' feature on the cover that dominated social media.

Instead of a traditional portrait, Reynolds is pictured from behind, showing only the back of his head.

He later explained the decision, writing, “I insisted they take this photo for soooo many reasons but the chief one is @MaximumEffort is not me. It’s a tiny little pirate ship helmed by the most talented, tireless, and creative team of people on planet earth.”

Fans weren’t buying it.

Many are questioning the timing of the feature, especially as Reynolds and Lively remain embroiled in an ugly legal war with Baldoni.

“Everything he’s been exposed for, and this is the headline? Come on,” one commenter posted. Another added, “That cash envelope from Reynolds must have been HUUGE.”

"How Ryan Reynolds paid us to put him on the cover of this magazine! Lol," one critic wrote on social media. Another slammed the cover as tone-deaf, posting, “Very barf. $$$$$.”

Others accused the Hollywood power couple of using the press to sway public perception. “These two keep on buying themselves good publicity, it's so exhausting and sickening,” one person wrote.

I absolutely love this.

Justin Baldoni totally exposed these two phonies, and now there's no going back for them.

The entire world knows now, that Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are fucking HORRIBLE people.

No matter how much fake press they buy.

Time is prestigious?

r2 So many on DL fell for their Christmas PR blitz campaign, I felt like I was taking crazy pills in those threads at the time. I think Baldoni has his own set of issues, by the way, so I wasn't even taking his side, yet I was blasted for saying anything against her. Those must have been fraus who paid to post just in that thread because I refuse to believe fellow DLers would be that easy to manipulate.

Countdown to the inevitable Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively divorce....

by Anonymousreply 6June 29, 2025 2:52 AM

Guess what? No one reads Time and no one cares

by Anonymousreply 7June 29, 2025 3:52 AM

It's not even the weekly's cover, but a special business supplement.

No matter who wins the lawsuit, Blake and Ryan are done. The public has turned on them. Those two are fucked and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

I can't wait to see what Freedman comes up with.

The big PR firms have Time in their back pocket, Sunshine Sachs, WME, etc. Nothing prestigious about a Time cover or award, just need a Publicist with a big check in hand. i.e. Duke and Duchess of Montecito, Amal Beard Clooney, etc.

by Anonymousreply 12June 29, 2025 4:43 PM

No one reads magazines anymore (Time, Newsweek, Vanity Fair etc)

No one cares about Magazines-Blake Lively is toast& Miss Reynolds is right behind her.

No PR expert can put them over anymore.

by Anonymousreply 13June 29, 2025 5:31 PM

The cover of Time was once prestigious and the journalism was top notch. It’s now just a celebrity clickbait farm. Mostly “listicles” and paid shilling. It really is meaningless now. Rolling Stone is almost worthless but still has more cachet than Time.

The “Time 100” is the most laughable listicle because, much like People magazine’s “.Most Beautiful” issue, the list changes every year. So just as how the “100 Most Beautiful” people one year are totally ugly the next, the “Most Influential” people have no merit 12 months later.

What a joke.

Very sad.
