yup, partly strategic, yes "flooding the zone," but mostly it's just the inundation of information. There has never been so much "news" constantly arriving everywhere, and nobody can really remember most of it, so it does just come and go, flare up and die out.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, OP. I’m still obsessed with the James and Lisa Goy snow shoveling murder case. I shriek “CHIMMAY!” on a daily basis, and post about the case at least once a week.

We are in the throes of a fascist dictatorship taking hold, supported by all three branches of the federal government, allied by many state executives and legislatures, as well as many local law enforcement departments and state courts. Many large corporations, increasingly international melanges, have bowed to this regime. The news media are compromised and many are becoming controlled. Fundamental rights are being attacked. Secret police (ICE, DOGE) are grabbing legal residents because of denial of free speech. Science, education, the very grounding of a rational, empirically based system of thought and action are being pummeled. Facts are denied and anti-truth propaganda is spewing from official sources. Foreign powers are manipulating and cutting deals with our leaders. Greed and enforcing power over others run everything. The Constitution is just parchment.

We are at the most hopeless point in the country's history since the Civil War, which is where we've been since McConnell stole the Supreme Court and enabled Trump. Worse, because this time there is no Lincoln, and the ruin is coming from the people who've sworn to avoid it.

And Americans yawn and complain that their favorite flavor of Doritos was out at the Piggly Wiggly and run red lights to show their contempt for others.
