The Californian singer was immortalized in David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive" (2001), in which she performed "Llorando", a Spanish-language version of Roy Orbison's "Crying". She died on June 23, just a couple of weeks short of her 58th birthday.
Rebekah's infamous scene from Mulholland Drive. She had an exquisite voice.

Her glorious Twin Peaks performance (2017) was sadly scrubbed from YouTube by Showtime some time ago. It made such an impact on me when I saw it for the first time. She also performs it here at some British festival a year later.

At a Q&A in Chicago after a screening of Mulholland Drive a few years ago. She seemed like a sweet woman.

David Lynch had a knack for "spotting" people (and talent), and she was one of them. Del Rio was working as a singer in Nashville when he selected her to appear in "Mulholland Drive", and that credit earned her a recording contract. She's not widely known outside of the orbit of the film, but still, how many people can say they were immortalized onscreen in a Lynch movie?
I always thought it was interesting that he would cast his films based on headshots of actors rather than using traditional auditions. He'd simply look through photos and select people based on the "vibe" they had and if it seemed to align with the vision in his mind. An unorthodox approach, but he had some incredible results casting his films this way.

This is very sad. I love her version of that song. She was a talent.
