Rabbit Hole du Jour: Australian dad stabbed dead by his own son gets falsely smeared as a pedo by the NY Post

Greg Josephson, 58, was stabbed dead by a 15yo boy in his own upscale Brisbane home last night during a house party involving 30 teenagers. But it gets worse for him after death.

Australia clamps down hard on any revelation of a minor criminal defendant's identity, So there's a ban on reporting the killer's identity in any way. But if you check out Reddit, multiple people are all saying Josephson was a dad trying to shut down his own son's unauthorized teenage party, and the son killed him. They know which schools the son was in, other details, that kind of thing. You can only find this on Reddit. No one on Reddit is saying it was not the son.

Enter the NY Post. They grab the story off "the wires" overnight, flesh it out with AI, and run it with a seamy headline and lead paragraph that really sounds like the dead guy was a rich pervert who lured a bunch of teenage boys to his home and then one of the boys must have "said no"... with a knife. Totally made up but that's where the Post commenters all go, instantly, in their brains... in large part because the Post sets it up for them to make exactly those inferences.

So yesterday afternoon Greg Josephson was just a dad and executive living his life. Then he was a dad who suddenly discovered his teenage son was throwing a party and dozens of teens were coming to the house. Now he's not only dead, killed by his own teenage son, but hordes of total strangers halfway around the world are jumping on a very distorted version of the story and calling Josephson a perv/pedo who got what he deserved.

Truth has become such a casualty these days.

The NY Post is trash, they just got busted killing a story that made a Trump appointee look bad

Here is the article in the post

It’s all in OP’s head —the Post article insinuated nothing of the kind. It just used the same prophylactic language from AUS and UK press reporting, where the parties’ names cannot be used.

Agreed, r4. Outside the US, the rules are different. OP probably doesn’t understand that issue.

I understand 100%. The Post led with, "Greg Josephson, who co-founded youth clothing company Universal Store with his brother Michael in 1999, was hosting the large gathering of approximately 30 teenagers at his house in the Brisbane suburb of Clayfield, according to police and multiple reports."

Hosting. Making it sound like this 58yo rich dead guy invited dozens of underage teenagers to his home to party.

When in fact he was a dad who discovered his son was inviting the horde of teens, and when he tried to stop it and shut it down, the son killed him.

Publications like the Post know what they are doing. This is Boomer clickbait and pedo-allegation smearing on the back of a dead father.

I'm just fascinated by the mile wide gap between what knowledgable people say happened, and what gets presented to strangers halfway around the world so they can react and post ugly comments about it.

by Anonymousreply 7June 27, 2025 4:54 PM

OP, your responses are not surprising, coming as they do from someone as common as yourself.

by Anonymousreply 8June 27, 2025 4:56 PM

Ooh, classism. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 9June 27, 2025 5:13 PM

Op being the one creating the ugly comments. Out of whole cloth.
