Are Costa del sol and Costa Brava basically the Florida Panhandle?
Cannot imagine why that kind of holiday would be enjoyable

Benidorm IS cheesy fun.
It's funny to watch British tv shows after you've watched Benidorm and see all the actors in other things playing VERY different characters.
The gay couple, Gavin and Troy pop up all the time. Both are acclaimed stage actors. Gavin aka Hugh Sachs is in Bridgerton. The middle class couple, Martin and Kate pop up in other things a lot, too.
And, of course, the Garveys were already fairly well known, with Steve Pemberton being in League of Gentlemen and Siobhan Finneran being the evil maid in the first 3 seasons of Downton Abbey.

Get a map.
Bendiorm is neither on the Costa del Sol, nor the Costa Brava. It is more than 500 kilometers distant from either of the places. Benidorm is in the Costa Blanca.
Spain has gorgeous coasts, but Benidorm is the biggest/worst exception. Benidorm is a conglomeration of seaside resort hotels and bars that in some respects may as well be Blackpool. Budget Brit holidayers arrive drunk via RyanAir and leave three days later drunk, few ever having ventured even as far as the Old Town where you can see what the place looked like before its fall.
