Your Favorite Albert Finney Performance?
Whether he was King Lear, the world's greatest detective, or an 18th Century tomcat, Albert Finney was a chameleon.
He declined the offer of a CBE in 1980, as well as a knighthood in 2000. He criticized such honors as "perpetuating snobbery."
What is your favorite Albert Finney performance?

I've only seen his work in Annie and Erin Brockovich and loved both portrayals. I will make it a mission to watch the other films.
RIP Albert.

Irish men can look so beautiful in their 20s and early 30s, and then they hit the wall HARD.

Dammit Muriel, Edit Button now!
Speaking of Annie, I think we can all agree Carol Burnett was the best Miss Hannigan on screen and off.

He’s my favorite Poirot and it’s my favorite of all his roles, but I’d give Honorable Mention to his Mark Wallace in Two for the Road.
I love both films so much, and he is a big part of it.

Honest to God, I've heard the best ever was Sally Struthers.
Everyone I know who has actually seen her in live musical theater (including as the title role in "Hello Dolly!") has told me she was an unexpected revelation.
I am not making this up.

Here’s my Albert Finney story. I was a rehearsal pianist on the Annie movie. At one point I had to go to another rehearsal studio across town, and they threw me in the back of a limo with Finney, who had to go to the same place. The limo got stuck in traffic for over an hour. Rather than ignore me, Albert Finney was completely charming, and regaled me with show business stories. I’ll never forget what a great guy he was!

R6, Finney is fine as Poirot, (better than Peter Ustinov's overly-comical interpretation), but the definitive portrayal of Poirot is the one by David Suchet.

When he got older and had all his teeth pulled, his dentures never fitted properly so he always sounded slushy. Very off putting.

He was such a gifted actor! I felt he was always overshadowed by the offscreen shenanigans trio of Burton, O'Toole, and Harris, but Finney gave so many terrific performances. The only performance of his that I don't think is great is Scrooge. His older Scrooge is just way too much and almost seems developmentally disabled.

I loved, loved, loved Albert and Tom Courtenay in "The Dresser." Courtenay almost tops Finney' s performance, but in the end it is Albert Finney's film. He seals the deal in the scene where he makes himself up for the night's performance and applies the wrong makeup for the character he is playing. Very funny.

Shoot The Moon (1982), directed by Alan Parker, should be on the list. He’s tragic and terrifying opposite Diane Keaton in a wrenching story of divorce.

Finney did not care for the trappings of fame, he would rather have a beer and watch football at the pub than go to fancy awards shows

I haven't seen enough of Albert Finney films other than ANNIE& Miller's Crossing.
He does get overshadowed by Burton, Harris, O'Toole& others.
I thought he was in Elephant Walk but that was Peter Finch.

I love Two for the Road. It’s sexy, funny sad and the format was fun to watch. The story jumped backwards and forwards, andyou knew where the characters were in their marriage by the cars they were driving.

His star making turn as a young actor in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, 1960. Also ,Tom Jones. What a fabulous actor and so sexy!

I saw him as Tamburlaine at the National Theatre in the late 70s, so that's my vote. (I also saw his Hamlet there, but he was waaay too old to be playing the role. But Angela Lansbury played Gertrude so all was forgiven.)

He’s extremely fun in Miller’s Crossing but he’s not the lead in the movie.
My favorite Finney performance isn’t even an option. I love him in Wolfen, a fantastically atmospheric movie about Native American shapeshifters in 1980s Manhattan.
It’s a great film on its own, and also a sentimental favorite for my 20s in NYC.
