$149 for a coat at a medium priced store like JC Penney's in 1973. In today's money that would be $1091.80!
I don't doubt that coat was made in the USA as was most clothing still in 1973.
We did not have a JC Penney near us in the 1970's. We shopped at Sears Roebuck.

Dreary. We were on food stamps that year, and my mom still wouldn’t be caught dead there. Boston Store or May Co. for school clothes.
