Pedro Pascal on Vanity Fair’s cover

A nice throwback to 90s glamour

by Anonymousreply 85June 26, 2025 3:11 AM

None of this looks 90s

by Anonymousreply 1June 24, 2025 12:54 PM

He looks more and more "refreshed", I've noticed. Ever since Cannes. There's this smoothness and tautness to his cheeks that wasn't there before. Secret phenol peel? But when would he find the time for recovery, he's constantly busy promoting something.

by Anonymousreply 2June 24, 2025 1:08 PM

That's not what his face looks like. He looked like a shriveled old raisin in The Last of Us season 2.

by Anonymousreply 3June 24, 2025 1:13 PM

Doesn’t look like what he actually looks like and no that isn’t 90s fashion.

by Anonymousreply 4June 24, 2025 1:14 PM

I have nothing particularly against him other than that he is extraordinarily overexposed and has an inability to say no -- to anything.

by Anonymousreply 5June 24, 2025 3:45 PM

R5: I'm not a fan at all but you strike while the iron is hot in Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 6June 24, 2025 3:47 PM

r6 Exactly. Especially at his age, it's now or never!

by Anonymousreply 7June 24, 2025 3:48 PM

Whore

by Anonymousreply 8June 24, 2025 3:49 PM

Don’t like the facial expression. I prefer grizzled season 2 Joel look over this. He’s hottest when looking a little rough.

Like the wet shirt, though.

by Anonymousreply 9June 24, 2025 3:49 PM

I cannot believe VF is still writing glass closet paragraphs like this. He won’t discuss his “personal life” but he’ll discuss his mother’s suicide for 10 paragraphs. And he uses his trans sister as a human shield, allowing him to be an “LGBTQ+ advocate” without having to coming out.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 10June 24, 2025 3:50 PM

My whole "thing" on coming out is this. People should not be pressured to come out. Everyone takes their own journey. The only people I resent, and would out in a heart beat are the closeted Gays who actively openly work against Gay Rights. Fuck them. Pedro is a sweetheart, Gay or straight.

by Anonymousreply 11June 24, 2025 4:13 PM

I agree he's overexposed but the man is 50 years old, this is his one chance to make tons of $$$ because he's not getting younger. It's kind of amazing he's broken out at such a late age. I don't blame him for trying to make as much as he can.

by Anonymousreply 12June 24, 2025 4:17 PM

Normally I’d agree, R11, but constantly making his sister part of his PR narrative really smacks of having his cake and eating it too.

by Anonymousreply 13June 24, 2025 4:20 PM

R12: They would never throw roles at or write puff pieces on a 50 year old woman.

by Anonymousreply 14June 24, 2025 4:20 PM

[quote]He won’t discuss his “personal life” but he’ll discuss his mother’s suicide for 10 paragraphs.

Because that's what'll get him the most sympathy from his mostly female fanbase.

by Anonymousreply 15June 24, 2025 4:28 PM

r14 that's true. And that's just how Hollywood is.

by Anonymousreply 16June 24, 2025 4:31 PM

[quote] I cannot believe VF is still writing glass closet paragraphs like this.

If you are 50, single, with no wife or girlfriend, and you have played gay onscreen, there is no such thing as a "glass closet." What's he supposed to do, offer the attributes of his "dream guy"? Gay men should have the same right of privacy as any straight guy.

by Anonymousreply 17June 24, 2025 4:38 PM

BULLSHIT r17. I don't know shit about who Jonathan Bailey's fucking but I know he's gay because he's not a fucking coward.

by Anonymousreply 18June 24, 2025 4:41 PM

I would have respect for his being glass closeted if he was not, as above poster noted, using the trans sister- constantly- as a human shield.

by Anonymousreply 19June 24, 2025 4:44 PM

We need to rally around younger talent like Johnny Bailey or Coop Cock who don't give a shit about the closet anymore. Or even slightly older talent like Colman Domingo who also don't care.

by Anonymousreply 20June 24, 2025 4:52 PM

He’s beautiful

by Anonymousreply 21June 24, 2025 4:57 PM

Domingo is in a committed relationship. You can't hide that at his stage of life. Pascal is single. Billy Porter has been openly gay since Christ's crucifixion and he gets nothing but derision at DL. There is no winning with you gurls.

by Anonymousreply 22June 24, 2025 5:00 PM

Billy Porter is a fucking obnoxious minstrel show. Just because a man is gay doesn't mean he can't be an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 23June 24, 2025 5:04 PM

I can't believe Vanity Fair could afford this photo shoot.

by Anonymousreply 24June 24, 2025 5:10 PM

He's a 50 year old man living in a glass closet. He's behaving like it's 2005.

If he "comes out" he is just confirming he is gay.

The whole "I'm very private in my personal life" would be a good reason if he wasn't such a media whore and was posting photos of his "date night" with fellow thirsty media whore Russel Tovey.

There are so many openly gay actors now it's just cowardly for him to stay in the closet.

by Anonymousreply 25June 24, 2025 5:17 PM

He's the lead in a major Star Wars franchise and just finished his run in a major action franchise based off of a video game for incel douchebros. Given the nature of those projects, he (and his handlers and the showrunners) think coming out as a gay man would not be a good idea.

I think that's bullshit, but that's how Hollywood still works.

by Anonymousreply 26June 24, 2025 5:25 PM

The main character in the "video game for incel douchebros" is a lesbian, and they cast the weirdest looking girl who has since "come out" as non binary.

The most popular episode in the series, which didn't feature in the video game story, was about a gay couple surviving the zombie apocalypse.

He's due to appear in The Fantastic Four with the woman from The Crown, the guy from Stranger Things and the guy from The Bear, with the villain played by the girl from Ozark.

His being openly gay as opposed to non openly gay would have had no impact on his casting.

by Anonymousreply 27June 24, 2025 5:40 PM

[quote]The main character in the "video game for incel douchebros" is a lesbian, and they cast the weirdest looking girl who has since "come out" as non binary.

Actually the main character is Joel, which is why everybody who played the game played it and also watched the series. Also, a girl who's into other girls is a world away from a guy who's into other guys as far as many straight people are concerned. Male-on-male sexuality is more controversial.

by Anonymousreply 28June 24, 2025 5:45 PM

[quote]The most popular episode in the series, which didn't feature in the video game story, was about a gay couple surviving the zombie apocalypse.

#1 that was an offshoot episode and #2 the fanboys hated it.

by Anonymousreply 29June 24, 2025 5:46 PM

"Do you want another house or do you want to be out?" – Pedro's agent having The Talk with him

by Anonymousreply 30June 24, 2025 5:46 PM

[quote]He's due to appear in The Fantastic Four with the woman from The Crown, the guy from Stranger Things and the guy from The Bear, with the villain played by the girl from Ozark.

And what does this have to do with anything?

[quote]His being openly gay as opposed to non openly gay would have had no impact on his casting.

BULLSHIT. If he had been out years ago he never would've gotten the Mandalorian which is what made him famous, therefore he never would've had a shot at the roles he's played since.

You really don't understand how the Industry works.

by Anonymousreply 31June 24, 2025 5:47 PM

Pedro Pascal ...no partner or even a date with either sex listed.

[quote]Billy Porter has been openly gay since Christ's crucifixion and he gets nothing but derision at DL. There is no winning with you gurls.

So have Ru Paul and Ian McKellen, and I don't recall seeing either of them get raked over the coals here. It might, just perhaps, be about Porter's specific histrionics and not a blanket "no win" situation for all out actors.

by Anonymousreply 33June 24, 2025 6:01 PM

Compare how Porter talks in public and how Domingo talks in public, and you'll understand why we can't stand one of those two.

by Anonymousreply 34June 24, 2025 6:20 PM

I remember playing the last of us in 2013 on muh playstation 3. It was great but I didn't like the ending. It was pro-natalist.

by Anonymousreply 35June 24, 2025 6:25 PM

[quote] Billy Porter has been openly gay since Christ's crucifixion and he gets nothing but derision at DL. There is no winning with you gurls

Because he's annoying and tries too hard.

by Anonymousreply 36June 24, 2025 6:26 PM

I can't wait for the day this guy becomes a has-been. I'm so sick of his fame whoring.

by Anonymousreply 37June 24, 2025 6:29 PM

He's making that money before it's too late r37.

by Anonymousreply 38June 24, 2025 6:42 PM

[quote]So have Ru Paul and Ian McKellen, and I don't recall seeing either of them get raked over the coals here. It might, just perhaps, be about Porter's specific histrionics and not a blanket "no win" situation for all out actors.

Ian McKellen is a good comparison.

He was cast as Magneto and Gandalf 25 years ago and appeared in 12 films in total but a tv show can't have a gay zombie killer because the fans won't like it.

by Anonymousreply 39June 24, 2025 7:31 PM

r39 nobody has ever wanted to fuck Ian McKellen. He was also never the lead actor in those projects.

by Anonymousreply 40June 24, 2025 7:32 PM

Character actors can be openly gay with no career worries, nobody cares who they fuck or want to fuck them. It's the action heroes and leading men who need to be sold to the straight audience.

by Anonymousreply 41June 24, 2025 7:34 PM

Character actors really have it the best of both worlds. They generally get careers with longevity and generally don't have to worry about paparazzi or any sort of intrusion into their personal lives.

by Anonymousreply 42June 24, 2025 7:43 PM

So true r42. The public doesn't care about their personal lives or sex lives, they're not objects of desire and they can still get good work as they age, getting older won't kill their careers. They have none of the pressures or the worries about getting older like the sex symbol actors have to put up with.

by Anonymousreply 43June 24, 2025 7:49 PM

The only other place that doesn't care about personal lives or who you fuck is Broadway.

by Anonymousreply 44June 24, 2025 7:58 PM

Gandalf is a supporting character??

by Anonymousreply 45June 24, 2025 8:02 PM

Insufferable female fanbases. Tell me about it.

by Anonymousreply 46June 24, 2025 8:16 PM

r45 Ian McKellen is a character actor.

by Anonymousreply 47June 24, 2025 8:22 PM

My take is that Pedro Pascal commenting on the manicures of every woman he meets is his way of telegraphing "I'm gay as hell," and sort of celebrating his gayness strategically. Whether its conscious gay-baiting, teasing, a rebellion against his team, or just him authentically enjoying manicures, I don't know. But no straight man in the history of ever has melted into goo over a female's interviewer's nails before. Pascal does it in every interview, on every red carpet. I doubt he is oblivious as to what kind of a message his mani-gasms send to the viewer.

by Anonymousreply 48June 24, 2025 8:34 PM

I don't know if his coming out would change this for me, but there's an air of disingenuousness to him in interviews that just makes me cringe now.

by Anonymousreply 49June 24, 2025 9:16 PM

I really don't understand why any gay men are defending him.

The gay media report on him as an out gay man but by refusing to say "I'm gay" he hasn't given the mainstream media permission to acknowledge that he's gay.

And as others have said, he's so outspoken on other issues, that this just comes across as weak.

by Anonymousreply 50June 24, 2025 9:21 PM

R41 that’s a good point. I always assumed Alan Rickman was gay and wondered why he didn’t just come out.

by Anonymousreply 51June 24, 2025 9:28 PM

"But no straight man in the history of ever has melted into goo over a female's interviewer's nails before."

True, but no gay man has ever expected his female co-workers to allow him to "seek their touch" because he has "anxiety problems", so...

by Anonymousreply 52June 24, 2025 9:57 PM

The paradox of Pedro acting like the World's Biggest Ally while cheekily hiding his own sexuality makes him worthless to any of us.

by Anonymousreply 53June 24, 2025 10:10 PM

^^It's show business, baby. You gotta roll with the punches.

by Anonymousreply 54June 24, 2025 10:14 PM

His sister is an actor and he has been trying to help her get exposure. There's nothing more to it.

by Anonymousreply 55June 24, 2025 10:17 PM

R18 very good counter argument actually.

by Anonymousreply 56June 24, 2025 10:20 PM

His brother identifies as a woman and Pedro has been trying to get him work. But there's only so many trannies who can get get cast.

Just ask Laverne Cox who is stuck in cameo roles in movies with Jennifer Aniston and more recently Cythnias Nixon and Erivo.

by Anonymousreply 57June 24, 2025 10:20 PM

R57 Laverne just got her own show on Amazon prime but it got canceled after 1 season.

by Anonymousreply 58June 24, 2025 10:22 PM

We really don't.

by Anonymousreply 59June 24, 2025 10:25 PM

His sister was handsome when she was still a dude.

by Anonymousreply 60June 24, 2025 10:27 PM

That guy's fame will be over and done with in 2 years time.

I dont get it though. He's cute-ish but not swoonworthy or drop dead anything. He's very mid as an actor, not bad but nothing outstanding at all. What am I missing? Is it because he's chilean and earns the studios brownie points? Dude is white latino, gmafb.

by Anonymousreply 61June 24, 2025 10:34 PM

Is Vanity Fair still published or online only?

by Anonymousreply 62June 24, 2025 11:02 PM

[quote][R12]:They would never throw roles at or write puff pieces on a 50 year old woman.

Didn't Demi Moore just almost win an Oscar? Didn't Sharon Stone just get a Vogue cover? Neither is 50, they're much older.

by Anonymousreply 63June 24, 2025 11:19 PM

[quote] Compare how Porter talks in public and how Domingo talks in public, and you'll understand why we can't stand one of those two.

Oh...so Billy Porter is TOO gay! He is the flamboyant, arrogant, shady, egotistic, wounded, ridiculed, histrionic gay kid in high school unafraid to be himself but he made the rest of us afraid to reveal ourselves as gay. Got it. The problem is not Billy - or Pedro's desire for privacy -- it is our own gaping need for acceptance.

by Anonymousreply 64June 24, 2025 11:20 PM

[quote] The only other place that doesn't care about personal lives or who you fuck is Broadway.

Really?!!!

by Anonymousreply 65June 24, 2025 11:23 PM

I like P. Pascal, but, that cover is sad.

by Anonymousreply 66June 24, 2025 11:26 PM

[quote]They would never throw roles at or write puff pieces on a 50 year old woman.

R14, I learned recently from the Jefferson Fisher episode of Diary of a CEO, that those who use "always" or "never" are not to be trusted.

Oh just STFU r64. Billy Porter is an annoying, narcissistic drama queen and a fucking minstrel show.

Wow, project much? Many of us are totally comfortable in our homosexuality and just don't happen to be attention whore clowns.

by Anonymousreply 69June 24, 2025 11:40 PM

For R64: A pregnant pause. Then a slow clap starts. As the clapping gets louder and faster, he audience stands for a rousing ovation.

Bravo, R64! Bravo!

by Anonymousreply 70June 25, 2025 12:00 AM

No Bravo for r64, he's an idiot and presumes a great deal.

by Anonymousreply 71June 25, 2025 12:03 AM

I agree, R71. I was poking fun. R64 has wounds. Deep wounds. And she assumes we all have those same wounds. But we don't.

by Anonymousreply 72June 25, 2025 12:28 AM

I have sufficient of that guy

by Anonymousreply 73June 25, 2025 12:31 AM

[quote] [R64] has wounds. Deep wounds. And she assumes we all have those same wounds. But we don't.

We all have the same wounds, bitch! Mass trauma and dysfunction. That's why we've congregated at DL.

by Anonymousreply 74June 25, 2025 2:20 AM

He’s so overexposed right now. It would be a good idea for him to disappear for awhile after his movie comes out.

by Anonymousreply 75June 25, 2025 2:33 AM

He's handsome and talented, but also inauthentic.

by Anonymousreply 76June 25, 2025 3:43 AM

R61: I feel the same way about Timothee Chalamet.

by Anonymousreply 77June 25, 2025 3:49 AM

R75: Overexposure is fine but you need the goods to back it up. He's not going to disappear when opportunities are being thrown at him and he can make serious bank.

by Anonymousreply 78June 25, 2025 3:52 AM

I will respect him a lot more when he mans up and comes out of the closet. Plus his weight loss is weird. It doesn't look good on him.

by Anonymousreply 79June 25, 2025 3:55 AM

[quote]Oh...so Billy Porter is TOO gay! He is the flamboyant...

Uh, no. And I fucking knew some hysterical queen would take my comment that way. He's vicious and keeps complaining about stuff from his seemingly endless list of grievances. A nightmare to work with too, from what we've all read and heard. That's the problem with him, not him being effeminate. I'm not going to stand behind a certified cunt just because he happens to be gay, you go do that and see how well that works out for you.

by Anonymousreply 80June 25, 2025 4:51 AM

My thing with Pascal is that he apparently has to be high as fuck whenever he does press. You can tell he’s stoned; the dilation in his eyes was so bad on graham Norton a couple of years ago that they kept pulling focus back. His “charm” is clearly green courage and that makes me think he must deal with terrible anxiety.

Whether the anxiety is specific to being closeted or just a general thing, I of course have no idea. But it makes me anxious to watch him do anything now.

by Anonymousreply 81June 25, 2025 5:02 AM

Mary!
