U.S. embassy warns Americans in Qatar to shelter in place
The U.S. Embassy in Qatar warned American citizens on Monday to shelter in place.
"Out of an abundance of caution we recommend American citizens shelter in place until further notice," the embassy said in a notice posted online on Monday.
Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar is the largest U.S. base in the Middle East. It was a major staging ground for U.S. military assets during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and President Trump visited troops at the facility just last month. There are some 8,000 U.S. troops based at al-Udeid.

Prior to the U.S. strikes, Iran vowed that it would retaliate against the U.S. if it joined the conflict.
The U.K. also updated its travel advice Monday, advising its citizens in Qatar to shelter in place.
"Following a U.S. security alert for U.S. nationals in Qatar, out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that British nationals in Qatar shelter in place until further notice," the U.K. Foreign Office said.
A spokesperson for Qatar's ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement that the "advisory from a number of embassies to their citizens do not reflect the existence of specific threats."
"The security situation in the country is stable," the statement said, and "the relevant authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors."
The statement said Qatari officials would "keep the public informed of any developments that require alerts or action."

Why isn’t the U.S, destroying Iran’s ability to wage war? If you’re going to take a country out, you really need to fully take it out.

[quote] Iran launches attack on US base in Qatar
Qatari air defenses "successfully intercepted" a missile attack targeting Al Udeid Air Base, the Qatari Defense Ministry said. The Qatari foreign minister condemned the Iranian attack on Monday, calling it a "flagrant violation of the State of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as international law and the United National Charter."
"We affirm that the State of Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner proportionate to the nature and scale of this blatant aggression and in accordance with international law," the foreign minister said.
The foreign minister added that the base had been evacuated earlier "in accordance with approved security and precautionary procedures" and that there were no injuries or human losses as a result of the attack.

Iran launches attack on US base in Qatar
Iran has attacked a U.S. base in Qatar, calling the mission "Annunciation of Victory," according to Iranian state TV. The attack is focused on Al Udeid Air Base, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
"With the aggression of the American enemy, it became clear to everyone that the evil of the Zionists was an extension of the American design," the Iranian armed forces said in a statement. "Accordingly, we remind you that in this national defense, the US mobile military bases and targets in the region are not a point of strength, but rather a major weakness and a blind spot for this war-mongering regime."
