Which is the best and gives the closest shave? TIA.
Electric razors

No electric razor gives a close shave. Stick with the blades.

OP asked about electric razors R1 - not blade shaving.

R2 Electric razors don't give close shaves. Blades do.

OP was asking which electric razors give the closest shave, not if they give a close shave. You misread, it happens, no need to double down.

I couldn't be arsed anymore with all those nicks I was getting from safety blades and the time it took to set it all up, so I bought a Philips rotary shaver series 9000 last month for €200. It has a nice LED indicator to tell you if you're applying too much or too little pressure, and gives you a feedback afterwards on the pressure, on whether you used the circular motion enough (which is a must with these types) and whether you shaved for optimal amount of time (I think three or four minutes). You can pair it with an app to see your stats over time, though I only used that once or twice.
Anyway, it's great on the face, but it does a shit job on the neck. I think my skin is getting used to it though, because my sensitive neck is less and less red after each shave. I intend to buy an IPL device to permanently remove my neck hair in the future.
I was considering Braun's foil razor because those give a closer shave than rotary ones, but they're louder, which is the most important aspect for me (I have misophonia). They're also apparently a bitch to clean and the replacement heads are more expensive. Having said that, if I had another opportunity, I would probably buy the Braun razor.
Oh, and I didn't buy the cleaning station with cartridges because those are a scam. I just use white vinegar with baking soda now and then. Takes a minute – you just dip it into a mug, turn it on, and it knows it's cleaning time. I lubricate it with mineral oil before each use, so it should last me a long time. Just a drop on each ring is all it takes.

R4 - thank you for clearly explaining that to R3.
We all know that blade shaving gives the closest shave R3 - but OP was specifically asking about which electric shavers do a good job. I am also interested to know.

r5, you might want to try the shaving chalk stick on your neck before shaving- I'm a makeup artist- and I use this a lot on guys who are sensitive to electric razors. Black guys use it too.....EDIT- damn- all the good sticks have been discontinued because they use talc. It does help to dry out your skin so the skin shrinks a bit before you shave- hence all the "Letric Shave" type pre shave products. You can bypass all of that by using straight up rubbing alcohol and let it dry.
I've found the best thorough shave is the Braun Series 9, for fast shaving + portability, the Philips One Blade. If you get those 30-40% coupons for CVS, you can use it on the shaver, but they're pretty inexpensive to begin with.

P.S., afterwards, Tend Skin is a must for irritation and ingrown hairs.

Braun Series 9 Pro+ Review. The best electric shaver on the market according to Men's Health.

r8 Oh wow, I never considered using a shaving stick before shaving, I'll give that a try. Used it for nicks all the time when I was using blades, but hated the way it would leave unseemly white strips on my neck. Which I then tried to removed with some tissue paper, only for the bleeding to start all over again. A nightmare! I now use an after-shave toner with potassium alum, panthenol, and various Saccharomyces mineral ferments in it and it does calm the neck skin within minutes. (And yeah, talc is getting banned in skincare in the EU soon.)
r10 Yep, that's the one I'd buy if I could do my purchase all over again. But the grass is always greener and all that... I admit it was also too pricey for me.

R4 I read it perfectly.
My argument is this: Electric razors don't give close shaves.
Want a close shave? Use a blade.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STFU R12.

R13 You first, honey.

I like the OneBlade. I use it on face and head. Occasionally other places but it’s not really a trimmer.

I never found an electric razor that gave me a close enough shave, and men in my family tend to bruise really easily in old age, so my grandpa's face always looked bruised from pressing his electric razor against it.
I hate using razors (because of the mess and the inconvenience), but it's really the only way for me.

R16 Don't tell R13 that.

If you're looking for simple and quick, just get a can of Barbasol and a Gillette Trac II (maybe called 5 o'clock now) razor and just shave. It takes less than five minutes, you don't have to charge your electric razor, and it's a much closer shave than anything electric will give you. A Trac II blade will last a week and they're inexpensive compared to the 3+ blade cartridges out there now.
These stupid Mach 3 and Astro 5 and other razors with 3+ blades are idiotic and you don't need them. You don't need lube strips or vibrating motors or even swiveling heads. Double edged safety razors are fun to use but only if you have time. And electric razors just suck. Throw in a proper shave at a proper barbershop once in a while and enjoy. Plus, electric razors don't exfoliate your face like a razor blade does. The young looking old guys out there today have probably used a manual razor for much of their adulthood. Can't wait to see what the viking beard generation looks like in a couple of decades.

Panasonic ARC has been the best I've had but it is expensive and I recently had to replace the blade for $70 after the quality of shave majorly deteriorated after 4-5 years, but overall it has been good.
