WTF are they on about now? "Woke architecture"?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 19, 2025 3:05 AM |
The far right often frames modern architecture as an intentional conspiracy to demoralize the public - exchanging aesthetic power and beauty for bland and sexless pillboxes. They may also be interested in nuttier conspiracies, like the idea that we had futuristic infrastructure and tech everywhere in the near past, maybe mind control weapons forced amnesia of something.

99% of them couldn’t tell you the difference between a Doric, Ionic, or Corinthian column, or even discern Colonial from Federal, but they’re certain we must return to “classical” architecture.

Their favorite architect is probably Albert Speer, and they sneer at degenerate art, like the Nazis they are.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 18, 2025 4:10 PM |
Retards. They are. Just pathetic, ignorant fuckwits
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 18, 2025 4:36 PM |
Are they committed to using every page from the Nazi playbook?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 18, 2025 4:38 PM |
"Woke" is a magic spell word for the GOP (used to be "communism" back in the Red Scare days). All they have to do is insert the word, however weakly, into any article, statement, speech, opinion and the slobbering troglodytes will line up to support whatever faux outrage is being generated. Pavlov's Dog methodology and all GOP/MAGA grifters make use of it.

This is not new news.
Federal guidelines were change to accommodate our Tastemaker back in the first term. Duh

The commenters point out that what is nowadays referred to as Penn Station is underground (and yeah, depressing) and it’s Madison Square Gardens above ground which is quite the busy little venue that might not be amenable to relocating..
Another one observed that brassy Trump Tower is far from classical.

The commentators point out the most obvious thing in the world. No shit.
A neo-classical or Beaux Arts facade for New Penn has been considered endlessly…let the feds work with Cuomo & the Dolans, and it just may happen. $10 says that New MSG will be built across 7th Ave.

Dump has built a lot of tacky skyscrapers...no "classical architecture" as I understand the term.

Many exciting new architects. Many female.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 18, 2025 6:41 PM |
The hottest architects right now are people like Robert AM Stern, Roman & Williams, Petter Pennoyer....
I love it. Click through some of these beauties:

Stern is so 80s…really NOT now

R14 You know nothing.
So 1980s? His most important and desirable buildings have been built in the last 20 years. Right now he has a number of buildings being built or recently finished in NYC.
"As we finalize the numbers for 2023, here's a glimpse of the best-selling buildings of the year, ranked by aggregate closings in terms of dollar amount. As expected, these buildings are predominantly recently constructed or converted condo/condop structures. Please note that some deals were signed into contract in the previous year and closed upon the building's delivery.
"Notably, four out of the top five buildings were designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects."
This was recently completed on 78th street:

Anything MAGA doesn’t like is immediately labeled woke and DEI
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 18, 2025 7:34 PM |
The MAGA proposal is too much of a straitjacket but we need to stop building important public buildings that the regular person finds alienating. No more Boston City Halls or Empire State Plazas. No more brutalism. Doesn’t have to be neo-classical though. Post modern whimsy is ok so long as it isn’t ugly on its face. The more sophisticated MAGA art lovers - and there are some- have pointed to DC’s new WWI Memorial as a welcome example of what public space can look like. On this I wholly agree.

Oh, what a surprise. He looks exactly like the Nazi he is.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 18, 2025 8:25 PM |
Damn—I read just last night that New Brutalism was all the rage. 🥺

Looking at the Stern website, i could live in any one of the designs. If I have several million of course.

Is art deco woke?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 19, 2025 12:23 AM |
Anyone find it dreadfully ironic that the people responsible for re-launching Hitler’s “degenerate art” crusade are named Shubow and Klingenstein?
I think the Jewish embrace of fascism is another sign that the Holocaust is almost completely faded from unlicensed consciousness,
