NH has the best food tippers in the country, while UT has the very worst
New Hampshire leads nation in tipping rate on away-from-home food purchases. Eastern states dominate the top of the list, with New Hampshire joined by the District of Columbia, North and South Carolina, Vermont, Rhode Island and Maine in the top 10.
The bottom is primarily a mix of states from the South and Western U.S. Utah is at the bottom, followed by Mississippi, Idaho, Alabama, Arkansas and New Mexico.
Our analysis uncovered significant differences among the states and their percentage of away-from-home food spending that goes toward tips. New Hampshire’s percentage is the highest at 16.07%, nearly four times the nation’s lowest percentage, Utah’s 4.09%.
Note The state percentages in this report include tipping spending at places where food is purchased to be consumed away from home, not just at full-service restaurants. Additionally, the spending numbers reflect the total dollars spent in the state by anyone, not just by residents.

That's odd about New Hampshire. I always assume Yankees are cheap.
Not at all surprised by Utah.

Southern NH is full of wealthy professional people who can afford to tip generously.

UT has very few black people. I’m tired of cunts saying we don’t tip well.

Those stats are sus.
I don’t believe there is such a wide variation in tipping among states—from 16% to 4%—and the variations make no coherent pattern. Just random states

[quote]Locations where food is typically purchased to be consumed away from home include (but aren’t limited to) full-service restaurants, limited-service restaurants (often fast food places), drinking establishments, hotels, motels and vending machines.
The study is bullshit. Do you tip at McDonalds?
NH probably ranks so high because of a lack of fast food places.

If they included non wait service then this study is trash. Every motherfucking place asks for tips built into the electronic register nowadays, even fast casuals like Chipotle and Panera Bread. Fuck that bullshit. I’m not tipping for any fucking fast food. That is ridiculous. I tip for delivery of the service is done well and prompt.

UT is full of people who steal others' tips from the table.
What a shallow, lobotomizing cult.

Is it really, R7? I thought LdsLand would be more ethical than that. Somebody stole a tip I left once, at a Denny's in Phoenix AZ. When I dine that calibre anymore I give the tip to the waiter if I can.

Mormons are notoriously stingy. They only give money when it redounds to their credit. Publicly.

I'll second how cheap Mormons are. Growing up it was pretty common to hear them brag about how little late tips usually saying I wouldn't tip more than I give God in reference to the 10% tithe that good Mormons are supposed to give to God everyone month. You might fare better if they're trying to impress their friends because a mormonland appearance counts for everything.

R14 Thats cause they put that money in their motherfucking family. Like Filipinos, they are the most loyal to family where it matters most.

Mormons likely travel internationally for missionary trips and realize tipping is an American scam.

It's not a scam R16, when the state of Utah has the lowest tipped minimum wage in the U.S., at $2.13/hour. Employers are required to reimburse tip shortfalls only to the state's minimum wage of a whole $7.25/hour.
