Sabrina Carpenter’s ATROCIOUS single “Manchild” debuts at #1 on the Hot 100

Barf. It sucks.

I'll say! It certainly is no Moist from JJ!

by Anonymousreply 1June 16, 2025 7:13 PM

I'm obviously not the target audience, but I have to say it's charming enough.

Synth-y fun with a sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 2June 16, 2025 7:13 PM

The song starts out sounding like it's sampling Sylvia's "Nobody."

Seems whoever's managing Sabrina's career is trying very hard to get her cast as the next Goldie Hawn in a comedy movie.

by Anonymousreply 3June 16, 2025 7:15 PM

She may be starring in Mamma Mia 3

by Anonymousreply 4June 16, 2025 7:23 PM

Talent aside, if she ever conceived with Seth Rogan or Conan O’Brien the baby’s giant head would split her in two and we’d have another antichrist nepo babiy on our hands.

Date pinheads, Sabrina!

"And I like my men all incompetent/And I swear they choose me, I'm not choosing them"

Maybe next album will bring some self reflection on this point.

by Anonymousreply 6June 16, 2025 7:35 PM

She’s the niece of one of the voice actors from The Simpsons

by Anonymousreply 7June 16, 2025 7:36 PM

She's the female Benson Boone.

by Anonymousreply 8June 16, 2025 7:39 PM

She's entering some sort of Imperial Phase where everything she touches turns to gold. Because this song is not number one material. It's so so cheesy, it's ridiculous.

The question is will she be Gaga/Rihanna/Taylor/Billie and stay A list going forward, or pull a Dua/Katy and drop off to B list or worse?

by Anonymousreply 9June 16, 2025 8:02 PM

I prefer Neneh Cherry's Manchild.

Is this a country song?

by Anonymousreply 11June 16, 2025 8:24 PM

R9 She's the flavor of the year, but I don't think she can sustain her popularity by continuing to produce this weak-voiced drivel.

I think she'll flame out.

by Anonymousreply 12June 16, 2025 8:32 PM

I love when people like r12 Will criticize an artist for having a “weak voice” and that they can’t sustain a career with it when we had Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 13June 16, 2025 8:35 PM

R13 Madonna sounds like Beverly Sills compared to Sabrina Carpenter.

Plus, Madonna had charisma and magnetism.

Sabrina? Not so much.

by Anonymousreply 14June 16, 2025 8:38 PM

r12, I'm not making any predictions about career longevity, but the girl can actually sing and I appreciate that she has a point of view.

by Anonymousreply 15June 16, 2025 9:14 PM

Yup. Claiming she can’t sing is silly.

by Anonymousreply 16June 16, 2025 9:16 PM

What r2 said. Not the target audience but it sounds different from the usual screeching pop songs.

by Anonymousreply 17June 16, 2025 9:18 PM

r15 A person who couldn't sing would be completely unable to reinterpret the song in the ways she did.

-Casual Espresso listener/liker who's not loving Manchild seeing Sabrina has some talent

by Anonymousreply 18June 16, 2025 9:25 PM

She's very popular with the young people, I don't think Sabrina's disappearing too quickly. I look at some of the less strong vocalists of the 1980s and think the lack of internet critics really was a boon to them

by Anonymousreply 19June 16, 2025 9:29 PM

She’s popular right now.

I do like some of her songs. Espresso was great and I liked Bed Chem

by Anonymousreply 20June 16, 2025 9:32 PM

Love this and love her. She really is turning into a fashion icon. The looks and hairstyles throughout the video are on fire. She’s a true star and is not going anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 21June 16, 2025 10:23 PM

R21 She's not going anywhere, all right...in terms of talent.

by Anonymousreply 22June 16, 2025 10:28 PM

Good thing I don’t have the musical taste of a 14 year old girl.

by Anonymousreply 23June 16, 2025 11:15 PM

[quote] She really is turning into a fashion icon.

Yeah right.

by Anonymousreply 24June 17, 2025 2:44 PM

The song is trash

by Anonymousreply 25June 17, 2025 2:49 PM

Please! I spent several months with Natalie Merchant on “Thank You” - I’m not allowed to evaluate songs. It’s vocals; and I know if you cheat, Mr. Teddy Swims even if you gave two great songs so far cheater.

by Anonymousreply 26June 17, 2025 4:08 PM

Um... try that again with a little more clarity r26? Sounds like potentially good dish, but I can't decipher it.

by Anonymousreply 27June 17, 2025 4:11 PM

I should clarify; we didn't hang out. it was the song. How fucking gray is that hair on my keyboard….

by Anonymousreply 28June 17, 2025 4:12 PM

R13 dumbfuck, Madonna didn’t have a weak voice. Janet Jackson had a weak voice.

All chart #s are BS with streaming. Billboard needs to figure this out. Nobodies are breaking records and piling up numbers all based on “listening” to a song.

by Anonymousreply 29June 17, 2025 4:18 PM

Cheap skank!
